CHAPTER 911: THE LAST MISSION: IS THIS THE END?
Day Ninety-Six...
Jane slammed her eyes shut.
’Here we go again. Back to square one. Monica is here to ruin everything! I should have killed her.’
She couldn’t move because of the muscle relaxant effect of the drug injected into her body. If only she could move, she could easily twist Monica’s wrist and snatch the syringe from her hand.
"You are all shocked that I’m here. Hahaha. I am so thrilled to see your frightened expressions," Monica said, grinning evilly as she darted her gaze back and forth between Nathan and Vincent.
She tightened her grip on Jane’s neck.
"Monica, why are you here? I already saved you. Are you trying to ruin my plan? Stop this nonsense. Let go of her!" Vincent berated her.
Monica just laughed sardonically. "You saved me?! When?! You are a hypocrite, Vincent! Your men defiled me and you didn’t stop them!"
"Do you think I would forget your betrayal after taking me away from Nathan’s men? You are a selfish jerk!" Monica spat back at him.
She laughed once more while the two brothers became more anxious for Jane’s safety.
"I don’t know what you’ve seen in her. Two brothers fighting over this woman. Hmmph. Don’t worry... No one can have her. Not you Nathan. And not you, Vincent!" Another sinister laughter escaped her lips.
’I shouldn’t have rescued her!’ Vincent thought while clenching his fists.
’I should have killed her!’ Nathan murmured inwardly.
The two brothers regretted their respective actions. Because of their mistake, Monica returned to get her revenge. And now, Jane’s life was in danger.
"Auntie! Please don’t hurt my Mommy!" Mia shouted.
Monica narrowed her eyes on the young girl. "Mommy? Is she your mommy?" She didn’t know that Mia was Jane’s daughter.
"What is she saying?" Monica gazed at Vincent sharply.
"You are so clever to use this child for your scheme. Hahaha!" She mocked him.
"It’s not a lie. Jane is Mia’s mother. And I don’t have any reason to explain this to you," Vincent said coldly.
Meanwhile, Ethan tugged his father’s sleeve. "Dad, there is a way to rescue Mom. You can confess to her now," he whispered.
Nathan frowned upon hearing that. He couldn’t understand why Ethan kept on insisting. He thought this was not the right moment to confess his feelings under these circumstances, which felt strange and absurd. He needed to rescue her first.
"I did everything for you, Vincent! How could you abandon me for this woman?" Monica’s anger surged up. She started to strangle Jane with her one hand, the tip of the syringe was still pressed on her neck.
Nathan discreetly picked up his phone, sending an important message to his team.
[ Prepare the snipers! Location– Helipad. Target the woman standing next to Jane. Shoot to kill! ]
Everyone received Nathan’s command. The snipers immediately took their position, finding a better spot wherein they could see their target. It would take them ten to fifteen minutes to be in position. Nathan needed to buy some time.
On the other hand, Vincent signaled Marco to make a move. He was still inside the helicopter. He just hoped that Marco was not Monica’s accomplice.
’I have to protect Jane no matter what! I can’t lose her now!’ Vincent clenched his fists, his eyes fixed on the two women.
"Let’s have a nice game! And here is the rule. If you want to save Jane, then why don’t you kill each other? Beat each other to death. If I’m satisfied with your performance, I might spare her life. Besides, I’m here to get my revenge against the three of you. Let’s see who is going to die first among the three of you!"
"Stop this, Monica! The children are watching!" Jane said sternly. She was tired of Monica’s madness.
Monica pinched Jane’s jaw tightly. "Just shut your mouth, Jane. You don’t have a say in this. I’m warning you. Don’t annoy me, otherwise, I won’t hesitate to inject this poison into your body right here right now!"
"Don’t touch my Mom!" Ethan yelled at Monica. He folded his fingers into tight fists. He gazed up once again, looking straight into his father’s eyes. "Dad! What are you waiting for? Talk to my mother now! Don’t hesitate! Trust me!"
Nathan furrowed his eyebrows in confusion.
"Oh! Since the children are here, let me change the rules of this exciting game. Are you willing to sacrifice any of them in exchange for Jane’s life? Kill the child in front of me, then I let her go."
"You are CRAZY, Monica!" Jane couldn’t stand her wickedness. ’Damn it! I want to kill this woman!’ She tried her best to move her fingers. She needed to fight the side effects of the drug injected into her by Vincent.
’Please... just give me three seconds to move my body. Just three seconds... and I’ll kill this woman for sure.’ Jane silently prayed.
"I’ll give you one minute! Make your choice now. Vincent, can you kill Mia to save Jane’s life? How about you Nathan? Will you kill your son for her?" Monica taunted, testing the two men before bursting into maniacal laughter.
Vincent and Nathan didn’t move. They knew that Monica was a psycho. She would never release Jane no matter what they would do.
"I’ll start counting now. You only have fifty seconds left. Time is running!" Monica reminded them.
Jane shook her head, warning the men not to hurt the children. "You are not stupid to believe this psycho! Don’t touch the children, or else, I will kill you both!" Jane threatened the two men.
Monica seemed to enjoy their dilemma. She could see the helplessness in their eyes.
"Forty seconds left. Tik Tak Tik Tak." Monica clicked her tongue, taunting them further.
As Monica continued her countdown, Jane smiled when she finally felt her fingers move. The paralysis effect of the drug was wearing off.
Jane met Nathan’s gaze and told him. "Nate, Can you tell me now what you wanted to say... last night... on the beach."
Nathan darted his gaze back and forth between Jane and Ethan. Both of them were staring at him expectantly, waiting for him to say those words.
"Dad! Tell Mom... Please."
Nathan took a deep sigh. He was about to say the word when suddenly, Jane immediately moved, grabbing Monica’s wrist. In a flash, she snatched the syringe from Monica’s hand.
"Aargh!" Monica grunted as Jane twisted her wrist.
The moment Jane took hold of the syringe, she stood up and injected it into Monica’s neck.
"Noooo!" Monica screamed as she felt the sharp object pierce her flesh.
She stepped back, her eyes widening in shock. Then, she rubbed the spot where Jane had injected the poison. Monica panicked and shook her head. ’No! This can’t be. Is this the end of me?’
Thud!
Five seconds later, Monica collapsed to the floor. She felt her heart tightening in her chest, making it impossible to breathe. The poison was lethal, attacking her cardiovascular system. In just ten seconds, it would cause a fatal heart attack.
’Damn it. Jane still won in the end.’ Monica knew she was dying.
"Mommy!"
"Jane!"
Ethan and Nathan called out to her in unison, both running toward her. Suddenly, a gunshot echoed through the area.
Bang!
"Marco! No!" Vincent screamed in disbelief. Marco was a traitor. He shot Jane, hitting her chest.
Bang! Bang!
This time, Vincent shot Marco.
However, Jane already collapsed in Nathan’s arms, blood dripping out of her chest. In just a few seconds, she was now bathing in her own blood.
"Mommy! No!"
"Jane!" Nathan gathered her in his arms, pressing his palm against her gunshot wound to stop the bleeding. Ethan also helped him, putting his little hands on Jane’s wound.
Nathan attempted to carry her, intending to rush her to the nearest hospital. However, Jane stopped him.
With her remaining strength, Jane reached for Nathan. "Nate, stop. Don’t move. Just tell me now... how you feel about me." She smiled weakly but coughed up blood.
Nathan shook his head. "I have to bring you to the hospital first."
"No. I wanna hear those words now," Jane insisted.
Nathan gritted his teeth before finally giving in to Jane’s request. "Don’t do this to me. Don’t leave me. Don’t die on me. Because you are the woman I love... Even without saying these words, I know you can feel it. I want to be with you... live together with our son. I want to give you a complete family. I want to make you happy. So I am hoping that you will accept me... and become my wife. I love you... in the past, in the present, and the future. You are the only woman I will love."
Jane’s eyelids grew heavy as she heard his words clearly. A single tear escaped from her eye. She forced a weak smile while saying. "Thank you, Nate. I love... you... so much..."
After uttering those words, the darkness finally consumed her.
