CHAPTER 31: CH 31: SECOND CHAMBER - PART 2
"Looks like we are left with no choice but to head forward. So, any idea what we should do?"
The journalist asked, and Cane had a sudden idea. Someone in the chat had suggested taking out the monsters in one go, and he had the perfect item for that.
"Everyone, get back. I am going to throw bombs down there."
He told the other two, and both Paul and Lloyd stepped back while Cane took out the bombs he had purchased from his inventory.
They were not powerful weapons, but they could come in handy in tricky situations. He had only bought them because they were one of the few offensive items available to him at his current level.
Boom
A loud explosion shook the ground, and when the smoke cleared, most of the monsters had died.
[KingCrimson: Holy Shit-! Just how many bombs did you use-!]
[WinWinWin: He used as many as he needed to. Who cares how many he used as long as it got the job done?]
Cane ignored the messages as he jumped down the pit. There were only a dozen or so monsters left, but their hard shells made it impossible to kill them using bombs.
Once he had jumped down, Lloyd followed. Between the two of them, they managed to clear the area.
The journalist also came down once it was deemed safe by the other two, and he looked at the walls filled with messages. It had not been clear before because the monsters covered the whole area.
"Wow-! There is so much information here. I need to take notes-"
He began to click images while Cane and Lloyd looked around for anything else. Based on Cane’s experience playing the beta, there must be some secrets they had not found yet.
Cane carefully observed all places that looked like they could hide a secret before he found it—a small opening just enough for him to put his finger inside.
He was able to press a small button, and a compartment opened.
There were three things inside—a sword, a small parchment, and a very familiar-looking ball, but this time, it was green-colored.
"Hey, stay back. This could be a trap."
Lloyd jumped forward in order to try and protect Cane, but Cane tapped his shoulder to tell him that it was all right.
"It’s fine. This must be one of the hidden rewards from this place. Since there are three rewards, would you like to have one?"
Cane asked the NPC, and the captain looked shocked at his offer. His eyes shook with want as he looked at the sword, but his morals held him back.
The journalist, on the other hand, seemed to have no such fear or shame. He stepped forward and went for the parchment.
"Great! If we are splitting up the loot, then I will have this parchment. I have a feeling it will lead me to a greater truth."
The man spoke as he held the parchment in his hand. Cane went next and grabbed the green ball.
"I will have this. Sir Lloyd, you should take the sword. Think of it as a reward for accompanying us this far."
Cane told the man, and finally, the captain also moved forward to grab the sword.
"Very well. I might as well take it for all the trouble I went through."
[HaremKingXXX: Hey, if that captain does not want to take the sword, then you should take it instead and use it. Or better yet, sell it.]
Cane had initially thought about doing that but decided against it.
The reward sword might look like a shiny weapon, but it was not a high-level one. The money he would earn by selling it was not worth as much as fostering a relationship with Lloyd.
After all, he was the captain of the Century Royal Guards—an elite force that would come in handy during later missions.
"No, it’s fine. I will soon come across even better weapons."
Lloyd looked offended when he heard Cane speak, but Cane pretended not to notice. Paul had incredible timing once more and jumped between the other two.
"Hey, let’s get going. We have wasted enough time here. I need to quickly head home and get started on my research."
The journalist dragged both of them out of the dungeon so that they could take a fresh breath of air.
As soon as they reached the exit, they wore their diving gear once more and headed back to the surface.
Unlike the previous time, they were not attacked this time and made it all the way to safety.
Journalist Paul dragged them both to his home after that and took out a bag of money for Lloyd.
"Here, for helping me, I will give you this."
The captain took the offered money, which made Cane curious. Why would a captain of a prestigious royal guard try to earn money in such a manner? It was not like the royal guards had no money to pay him.
But he had no time to ask because Lloyd left quickly once he was done.
The system notification also distracted Cane.
[You have completed Additional Skill quest - Secret of the Louve.]
[You have completed the Side Quest.]
[Rewards are being calculated. Congratulations, you have leveled up 34 → 35.]
[You have opened up the requirement to continue The Chain Quest - A Hero’s Journey.]
[Shura: Not fair! We cannot see the system notifications.]
[WinWinWin: What does the system say? I will donate to you if you tell me about it.]
The commenters were curious to know more, so Cane did not keep them waiting.
"You all want to know what the system told me? It told me that it’s time to have fun. Keep an eye out on my social media for my next stream, and I will bring you another ’special’ never-before-seen quest."
He promised, and the audience left excited messages on his stream before it ended.
Cane quickly got off his account after that to check on his message box. And there it was- the official mail from Joseph
