CHAPTER 49: CH 49: HEALTH CHECK - PART 1
"Ugh, he is finally back to reality. How long has it been since he put solid food in his mouth? He should also make that appointment with the doctor and get himself checked out."
Cane slowly moved his body before he looked around. A whole day had passed since he had last been awake, and soreness was beginning to seep into his joints...or not?
Somehow, he felt even more refreshed as he moved around. Even his bodily needs seemed to be taken care of...or at least pushed aside for the time being.
First, he relieved himself and took a shower. Then came the food and other necessities.
After an hour of being out of VR, Cane felt like a human again and could go about his day just fine. He checked his mail and other stuff, but there was nothing important there that he needed to get done ASAP.
After finishing a light workout to make sure his muscles wouldn’t be permanently damaged because of Clash Online, Cane booked a doctor’s appointment. He had to pay a little extra to get an immediate spot, but it was worth the money.
The sooner he was able to get himself checked out, the sooner he would be able to head back into the game.
As he exited his apartment, he looked at the neighbourhood around him.
It was not the worst, but it was not the safest either. It was the budget option that had been available to him at this point.
But soon, he would be able to get out of here and save enough for retirement as well.
As soon as he reached the doctor’s appointment, he was made to wait. There were a dozen or so people around, waiting to be checked out.
However, because he had money, the waiting time did not matter to him, and the nurse came to get him herself.
"Mister Cane...? Please come with me. We will get you checked out by the doctor now."
Everyone else around him gave him dirty looks as he was escorted inside the doctor’s office quicker than them. The envy in their eyes fueled him to hold his head high and keep walking forward.
"Why did he get to go first? I have been waiting for so long—"
"Sir, I told you that there is a different V.I.P queue you can pay for. Otherwise, please wait in line. We have our finances to look at as well."
Cane was no longer able to hear the fighting as he closed the door behind him and walked toward the aged doctor. The doctor noticed Cane and welcomed him.
"Ah, my dear patient-! Welcome back. How have you been all this time? Still playing games?"
The doctor greeted Cane with these questions, and Cane felt surprised every time he came here.
Somehow, the doctor seemed to remember most of the stuff Cane had told him before. Even the smallest detail was remembered by the doctor, and Cane doubted he was the only one the doctor remembered like this.
’There is a reason this doctor charges an arm and a leg for the appointment. But if he has the money and the system favours people with money as well, then why not make use of it?’
Cane took the offered seat, and the doctor’s assistant gave him a glass of water to drink.
"Please get comfortable. We will start our tests now. There is a lot we need to check."
The doctor told Cane, and he was ready. He had managed to clear out his whole day, so he had nothing else to do now.
"Now, please stand up and wave your hands around. Is there any pain..."
And so, the tests began.

"What am I looking at? Can someone explain to me what that is?"
Reeze Khoi asked as she looked at the screen in front of her. The whole screen was red, not showing anything else beneath it.
That had not answered her question, but the people around her flinched at her tone.
"Boss...that is the screenshot from the latest Cane stream that crashed. Even the data for the stream is not available. All we have are these poorly taken screenshots from someone’s phone camera."
One of the engineers told Reeze, and she froze before she raged.
The other engineer got scared of this, but he knew he needed to speak or his boss would eat him alive later.
"N-Not only that, boss, but we cannot contact Cane either. He does not exist in the visible code. Even the NPCs he is interacting with and the places he is visiting— they are not in the code."
The engineer told his boss, hoping that he wouldn’t be fired by her.
The more Reeze heard all this, the more she wanted to break something. Her desire was rising faster and faster, and the secretary held her back in time.
"Boss, we have good news as well. Our sponsored player, Lee Heera, has hit level 75. We also found out that she’s acquainted with Cane. If you want to talk to him, then all you need to do is ask her to invite Cane as her partner during the mage tournament."
Her secretary’s words cut through her mind like a blade, and the female suddenly calmed down.
"You are right. That is an option we have."
She told her secretary, and he sighed in relief at her agreeable attitude. For a minute, he had been sure that she would tear into him. But luckily, that did not happen.
For the first time, his boss decided to pull herself back.
"Make sure you contact him. And inform Heera as well about what she needs to do if she wants to keep getting sponsored by us. Feel free to drop her if she disagrees or something. We don’t really need her."
Reeze told her secretary, and her secretary shook his head at his boss’s orders.
She was truly not a good woman, and unfortunately, he was stuck under her, not being able to change a single thing about her.
