365 Days of Rejected Proposal: CEO's Rebellious Pet
Chapter 128: We’re Really Over
CHAPTER 128: CHAPTER 128: WE’RE REALLY OVER
Zinnia stiffly lowered her head to look at Crystal and let out a soft laugh.
She laughed at herself for being so stupid. She’d actually been afraid that Old Madam Forrest might really force Crystal to have an abortion. She’d thought it was ridiculous that Crystal still wasn’t telling the truth, and she’d been watching Crystal make a fool of herself. Little did she know, the biggest fool was her. Crystal must have notified Jenson long ago. She was just stalling, waiting for him to come and save her.
When Crystal gets hurt and sheds a few tears, Jenson is always there to protect her.
"Jenson, please save me! Save our baby! I’m not trying to fight with Zinnia. Why do you have to take my baby away? What did he do wrong? It hurts so much..."
Ignoring the wound on her face, Crystal clutched her stomach and tried to stand, only to collapse back onto the floor, curled into a ball.
Jenson’s expression shifted slightly. He stepped forward and scooped Crystal into his arms, disregarding the utter humiliation his actions caused Zinnia.
Old Madam Forrest was infuriated. Her chest heaved as she struck her cane forcefully on the ground twice.
"Put her down! You bastard! Believe it or not, I’ll beat you too!"
Enraged, Old Madam Forrest raised her cane to strike.
"Ah! Jenson, look out!" Crystal cried out, raising a hand to shield Jenson’s head. But Jenson had already turned, and the cane landed squarely on his back.
They looked just like a pair of star-crossed lovers, huddling together and pitying one another.
Old Madam Forrest’s blood pressure spiked. Gritting her teeth, she looked ready to strike again.
Jenson turned and took a step forward. "If Grandma wants to teach me a lesson, wait until I’ve taken her to a hospital room. After that, Grandma can vent her anger on me however she likes."
The old madam didn’t expect him to suddenly turn and step toward her, and the cane almost hit him on the head. She cared for her grandson, after all, and didn’t actually intend to beat him to death. Her motion froze as she said angrily, "You want to send *her* to a hospital room? I think you want to send *me* to one!"
Seeing Old Madam Forrest truly boiling with rage, Zinnia grew worried. She was about to speak up and calm her down when Jenson’s gaze fell upon her.
The man’s brow furrowed as he spoke in a low, somber voice, "Did you ask Grandma to come? She’s old and shouldn’t be overexerting herself. Take her home first."
His expression was impassive, but his tone, while not cold, was filled with blame.
Zinnia met his gaze, and her breath hitched.
Jenson actually thought she had snitched to Grandma, leading the old woman to the hospital to deal with Crystal. In his eyes, she must be a cold-blooded, narrow-minded, selfish executioner, determined to harm Crystal’s innocent child.
Zinnia no longer wanted to explain, nor could she be bothered. She didn’t care what Jenson thought anymore.
But Jenson’s attitude only stoked Old Madam Forrest’s fury. She raised her cane and swung it fiercely at Jenson’s legs twice.
"You bastard! Your wife is Zinnia, not this scheming, troublemaking vixen in your arms! You’re cuddling up with her right in front of your wife, and you still have the gall to pin the blame on Zinnia! Do you think Zinnia is like her, full of poisonous schemes? I’m the one cleaning up this family’s mess! What does this have to do with Zinnia?! If you have a problem, take it up with me!"
Belittled by Old Madam Forrest, Crystal pressed herself closer into Jenson’s embrace and cried delicately, "Grandma Forrest, hit me instead. Don’t scold Jenson. He just has a strong sense of responsibility..."
"Shut up!" Jenson interrupted her with a frown, his eyes holding a warning.
Crystal’s face went pale, and she lowered her head, looking aggrieved.
Zinnia watched this unfold, but she didn’t feel happy. Instead, her eyes were filled with mockery.
It was obvious that Jenson could see right through Crystal’s little act of fanning the flames, yet he was still willing to hold and protect her.
Zinnia took hold of Old Madam Forrest’s arm and tried to persuade her. "Grandma, I know you dote on me and this is all for my own good, but Jenson and I have already registered for divorce. We’re really over. Grandma, just let them be. Let’s go home, okay? I’m begging you."
Her expression was calm, and she even wore a faint, serene smile. She looked so composed and indifferent, as if she had completely let go and couldn’t care less what happened between Jenson and Crystal. She was nothing like a betrayed wife; she was utterly unconcerned.
Jenson had asked Zinnia to persuade the old madam to leave, but only because he was worried about her health. He also knew that at this moment, Zinnia was the only one whose words would have any effect. He certainly hadn’t asked Zinnia to persuade her *like this*. Now, the man watched as the woman coolly stated that they were divorced and that everything between them was finished, speaking as if she were indifferent to what became of him and Crystal.
Jenson’s expression instantly turned foul, and his grip on Crystal tightened involuntarily.
Crystal felt as if her kneecap was about to be crushed. Biting her lip to endure the pain, she looked up at Jenson.
When she saw his tightly clenched jaw and the expression that struggled to feign calmness, Crystal was consumed by a jealous rage.
Earlier, when she was lying on the ground covered in blood, Jenson had come to hold her without even frowning. But a few words from Zinnia could affect him this much? How was she inferior to Zinnia? Why did both Jenson and Old Madam Forrest look down on her?! They were truly blind!
"You’ve already registered for divorce?" Old Madam Forrest was stunned by Zinnia’s words, looking completely stricken.
Old Madam Forrest had witnessed firsthand how deep their feelings for each other were. She had assumed their talk of divorce was just a lovers’ quarrel and that they would never go through with it for real. She never expected that they had already registered the divorce. They were truly separating!
"Yes, Grandma," Zinnia confirmed with a nod.
Old Madam Forrest felt as if all her spirit had been drained away, and a sudden, extreme fatigue washed over her.
Just then, several more people emerged from the elevator and hurried toward them. It was Patrick and Katherine Forrest, followed by another couple. A refined-looking middle-aged man was pushing a wheelchair. The woman in the wheelchair, his wife, clearly had some issue with her eyes, as she wore sunglasses even indoors.
They were Jenson’s godparents, the Sterlings. They had just been in Julia Forrest’s hospital room and had rushed over together after hearing the news.
Katherine hurried forward, anxiously checking Crystal’s injuries. "Crystal, the child... Don’t tell me the child is...?"
Crystal pressed her lips together and shook her head, her voice choked with tears. "Luckily, Jenson arrived in time. I protected my child. The child is still here."
"Thank heavens! That’s wonderful news!" Katherine clasped her hands in relief. She was so concerned for Crystal, but did she spare a single thought for Zinnia, her actual daughter-in-law?
Patrick’s brow furrowed. With a stern face, he said to Jenson, "Why are you causing such a city-wide spectacle? Hurry up and take her away. Stop provoking your grandmother. If her health suffers because of you, you worthless bastard, I’ll beat you to death!"
Although he was reprimanding Jenson, he was actually protecting Crystal by telling him to escort her away.
Even Jenson’s godparents, the Sterlings, stepped forward to try and placate Old Madam Forrest.
"Madam Forrest, the younger generation will find their own way. Jenson isn’t a child who doesn’t know what he’s doing. Just let them handle their own problems."
"Yes, the old madam’s health is what’s most important. It’s not worth getting this worked up. By the way, Eighth just woke up and said he misses you, Grandma. We can accompany you to see him."
