A Crazy Love Proposal
Chapter 259 - 259 138 Escape
Chapter 259: Chapter 138 Escape Chapter 259: Chapter 138 Escape He clutched the check tightly.
At night, Wen Yangzhi would, as usual, climb into Yun Yuwan’s small bed, even if that meant he had to curl up to sleep; thankfully, she still hadn’t locked the door.
When he held her, she was looking at her phone, and when he pulled her into his arms, she didn’t say anything.
Wen Yangzhi’s voice was extremely low, as if to shake her very bones, causing them to tremble, “Can we talk?”
She just turned over in his arms to face him, freeing one hand to touch his handsome and chiseled face, her tone gentle,
“Let’s not talk about this.”
If he hadn’t heard Jiang Jianqing say those words, at that moment, hearing her say this, Wen Yangzhi might have thought she had forgiven him and decided to let bygones be bygones.
But now he knew, she didn’t even want to listen to an explanation.
Wen Yangzhi’s voice was heavy as he explained, “I can try to cure my cognitive bias, and when I’m able to get married, we’ll get married. Before that, let’s appear as a fiancé and fiancée in front of others.”
But she just rubbed her eyes, which had grown dry from looking at her phone, and comforted him in an easygoing voice, “Don’t rush it. This isn’t something that needs to be resolved immediately; don’t push yourself too hard.”
Wen Yangzhi held her tightly, his lean and strong muscles enveloping her completely, his broad arms and chest encircling her entirely, “Will you still be with me then?”
She spoke with a smile, “Aren’t I with you right now?”
But he felt a sourness inside, staring into her ethereal eyes, he pressed, “And what about the future?”
She just touched his sharply contoured handsome face again, from the jaw to the cheekbone to the brow, so chiseled and sensual, her caresses as though they were tracing the form of an exquisitely beautiful deity’s statue,
“The future will have its own way of dealing with things; don’t borrow trouble.”
She acted as if nothing had happened, but he knew things were different.
Suddenly, he ventured, “Can we do it now?”
She smiled with curved eyes, “Did you bring protection?”
He was silent for a moment.
She smiled, realizing, “You didn’t, did you? What if we have a child?”
She continued to stroke his breathtakingly handsome face, “Even with precautions in the past, we still worried; let alone now with none. Having a child right now would be very troublesome.”
His muscles tensed up.
She had once been earnestly eager to have a child with him, but now she spoke these words with an air of indifference and a hint of mockery.
Perhaps there was no sarcasm intended, but to his ears, it was piercingly painful.
Having his child was troublesome.
So whom did she want to have a child with, Jiang Yingyu?
He imprisoned her in his arms and kissed her, she responded, but to Wen Yangzhi, it just didn’t feel enough; he held her tightly until he fell asleep.
In the middle of the night, she said she needed to use the bathroom, and he briefly let go of her.
But after a good half-hour, she still hadn’t come out of the bathroom, and he felt something was amiss. He got up to knock on the door, but there was no response from the inside.
Turning the doorknob, he found the bathroom empty.
And at that moment, Yun Yuwan had already left, on her way to Italy with Jiang Yingyu.
Once she had crossed that line to express her love to Wen Yangzhi, she never had a path to turn back.
It was either be together forever or never meet again in life or death.
She was too enamored with Wen Yangzhi’s warmth, even now still craving his embrace and kisses.
Her confidence was a facade, and her bravery was a facade.
Her love was a castle in the air, built on a foundation of never being loved, yet this was her only chance to betray her cowardly nature.
Once he failed her, there was no turning back. She didn’t want to lay her self-respect on such perilous grounds, willing to obey anything just to stay by his side.
If he wouldn’t change, then so be it; she wouldn’t demean herself to accommodate him.
Wen Yangzhi stared at the empty bathroom, the wide-open window swayed by the wind.
All their itineraries, he was not privy to.
She had slept in his embrace without mentioning a word.
To avoid him, she had risen from bed in the middle of the night and even risked jumping out of the window, all to not disturb him.
She didn’t want to cause any trouble, let alone have any conflict with him. She would rather endure hardship than be anywhere near him.
Like towards someone she both disliked and was wary of.
To her, that’s what he had become.
Wen Yangzhi’s hands trembled as he dialed her number on his phone, only for her to hang up directly.
Each call was met with a hang-up.
He kneeled halfway by the bed, but eventually, she turned off her phone, and he couldn’t reach her anymore.
He thought of Italy, but how vast Italy is. He immediately made a call, “Have the head of Wen Bank’s branch in Italy help to find some people and check the bars with R&B bands performing tonight and tomorrow.”
Yun Yuwan sat on the train, knowing she was getting farther away from Wen Yangzhi, yet clear that the person who didn’t cherish her was also drifting further from her.
Watching a variety show with Jiang Yingyu, a rainbow appeared on the screen.
Yun Yuwan exclaimed, “It’s been a long time since I saw a rainbow. I remember one in London after a heavy rain, the rainbow and the flowers in my yard bloomed together, a sight so beautiful no photo could do it justice.”
Jiang Yingyu intentionally checked the weather in Edinburgh, but there was no rain these past days.
But lifting his eyes with a smile, he said, “I promise you, I will show you a rainbow in Italy.”
Yun Yuwan was surprised, “Really?”
His eyes were soft, “Really, a rainbow that belongs only to you.”
However, Yun Yuwan didn’t expect that after meeting Jiang Yingyu’s band friends in Edinburgh and making a bunch of new acquaintances, she would run into Wen Yangzhi again.
The bar’s lights were dim yet dazzling, with bottles stacked into a wall. She stood amongst the crowd, learning to lift her hands and jump like the others. As she jumped, she wasn’t as tall as Jiang Yingyu, who just glanced at her with a side smile. Blocked by people as she jumped, he lifted her up to give her a clear view.
The band finished a song, spraying champagne towards the audience.
Yun Yuwan revelled in the champagne rain, laughing and high-fiving strangers, only to turn around and see Wen Yangzhi standing in the shadows, bodyguards behind him exuding the same indifferent, detached demeanor, completely out of place in the bar atmosphere.
He just quietly watched her, a dim yellow light a couple of steps in front of him, but he remained enveloped in darkness, silently gazing at her.
Her smile faded instantly.
He was too clever; suddenly, she felt that no matter where she went, she would be caught. His bank had branches all over the world, ready to snatch her back at any time.
Jiang Yingyu noticed her changed expression and followed her gaze, spotting Wen Yangzhi, his mood also cooling.
Suddenly, she lost all interest and walked towards the exit.
Wen Yangzhi glanced at Jiang Yingyu and then at the junkies, red-light women and hoodlums scattered around the bar, his eyes dark and cold as he watched them for a moment, then stepped forward, following Yun Yuwan, with Jiang Yingyu quickly catching up.
Yun Yuwan walked on the silent nighttime streets, Wen Yangzhi keeping a not too distant, not too close pace behind.
When a drunk man tried to harass her, Wen Yangzhi grabbed him by the collar and nonchalantly tossed him into a vagrant’s bedding at the roadside.
The man tried to get up, but before Wen Yangzhi’s bodyguards could act, Jiang Yingyu gave him a forceful kick, sending him tumbling into the river.
No matter how recklessly Yun Yuwan walked ahead, the two men followed her on either side, the chaotic night in Italy making her feel as carefree as when she was in her own country.
