CHAPTER 246: CHAPTER 243: THIS WAS ALWAYS HIS PLACE

As Shi Su returned to Kaixing Mansion, Jun called to inform her that "Yao Platform" had its schedule moved up, premiering in three days.

Due to an unexpected situation with an artist in a variety show that was supposed to air, the show got banned, allowing "Yao Platform," originally scheduled later, to air more than a week earlier than planned.

The day before the broadcast, the production company planned a press conference on a high-traffic video platform, sending requests to Shi Su for outfit and styling, script lines to mention during interactions with the host, and other basic promotional plans.

As Shi Su entered the door, she was looking down at the materials Jun sent her. Just as she was about to close the door, she paused, stepped back, and looked at the fingerprint password lock on the door. Decisively, she changed the previous password, checked the fingerprints to ensure only hers and Mrs. Qin’s were recorded, and then went back in and closed the door.

Even though this was originally his place, she wasn’t sure if this precaution was necessary.

Mrs. Qin didn’t question her sudden decision to change the password, assuming frequent changes were for safety.

After not returning home for more than a week, when she picked up Mianmian in the evening, the little girl gave her a big bear hug, kissing and holding her, insisting that Mommy must sleep with her for a few days, because she missed her mom so much and just wanted to sleep with her.

Shi Su quickly took her little treasure to the mall to buy some delicious food, play in the fun zone, eat at the kids’ restaurant, and bought pretty little dresses and children’s toy bead necklaces for her.

At night, back home, Mianmian happily wore the colorful bead necklace she made, swinging her head saying, "Mommy, do I look pretty?"

Shi Su was in the kitchen helping Mrs. Qin make dinner. Mrs. Qin was making dumplings, and as Shi Su’s hands were covered in dough, she turned back to see the little girl full of herself and tapped her nose, "You just love looking pretty!"

Mianmian giggled, leaning by her legs, looking up, "Oh, Mommy, Mr. Lu gave me a children’s watch, and I can talk to Uncle Ji Han with it!"

The smile in Shi Su’s eyes faded a bit, and she responded, "I know."

After speaking, she patted Mianmian’s little head, "Go play by yourself, Mommy will help Mrs. Qin for a bit."

"Mommy, don’t you want to see my watch? I can really talk to Uncle Ji Han!"

Hearing Jing Jihan’s name now, Shi Su’s mind immediately conjured the photo from the "Little Squirrel Follows Jing" Weibo account. She didn’t want to mention him, or anything related to him.

After sending Mianmian back to the living room, Shi Su lowered her head to continue working on the dough.

While making dumpling filling, Mrs. Qin said, "The flu has been quite severe lately. My son had a cold and took leave to rest in the dormitory two days ago. No one is nearby to take care of him, and he has had a persistent fever. I thought now that you’re back, I could go take care of him for a few days until he recovers."

As soon as Shi Su heard this, she quickly took over from Mrs. Qin, "Then you better go now. I can handle this. Go quickly."

Mrs. Qin was indeed worried and, after changing her apron, was sent off with plenty of nutritious items from Shi Su, exiting with many thanks.

...

At night.

Mianmian snuggled in Shi Su’s arms as Shi Su told her a bedtime story.

After finishing, Mianmian, looking proud, took out her children’s watch from under the pillow to show her.

"Mommy, I say goodnight to Uncle Ji Han every day. But Uncle Ji Han said he has been quite busy lately and will reply when he has time. I haven’t disturbed him in the last few days. Mommy, would you like to use this to say something to Uncle Ji Han?" Mianmian said as she fiddled with the pink watch, her face showing a conflicted desire to talk to Uncle Ji Han, fearing he was too busy, wanting to hear his voice so much that she asked Mommy to help her.

"If he’s that busy, there’s indeed no need to disturb. Me bugging him or you bugging him, what’s the difference?" Shi Su moved her little watch aside and placed it next to her, "Stop playing with that, it’s time to sleep."

Mianmian snuggled against her chest, "Mommy, are you not feeling well?"

Shi Su looked down at her, "Hm?"

Mianmian raised her little hand to poke her cheek, "Mommy seems like she’s not feeling well."

Shi Su’s heart softened, she caught Mianmian’s small hand and gave it a kiss.

Having not eaten for two consecutive days and being confined in a dusty room, although she ate something simple in Wen Ke’s car afterwards, her stomach inevitably felt uncomfortable from suddenly being too hungry once.

Her nose still seemed to have a foreign body sensation from the attic’s dust, making her voice slightly hoarse and nasal, and her head felt dizzy due to stuffiness.

Her complexion probably did look a bit haggard for even Mianmian to notice.

"Mommy just didn’t sleep well; only when I hug you can I sleep soundly." She hugged Mianmian’s soft little body, her face pressed against Mianmian’s tender little face, saying with her eyes closed, "A good rest will fix everything."

Mianmian, feeling sorry for her mom, obediently stopped talking, not to disturb her sleep. She raised her little arms attempting to hug Mommy’s head, imitating Mommy by gently kissing her on the forehead.

-

The next day, Shi Su went straight back to the set to film. As for her reasons for taking leave the past two days, Jun had already handled it.

The next morning required preparation for the "Yao Platform" premiere press conference. Even though she wasn’t the lead actress, she was very popular on Weibo. But by protocol, the male and female leads were the focus, and Shi Su occasionally mentioned a few promotional words.

Due to the last-minute schedule change, some investors and actors couldn’t make it to the press conference, making it somewhat rushed, yet many media outlets attended.

The press conference only lasted two hours, but since returning from the Shi Family, Shi Su worked nonstop like a spinning top. Yesterday, she filmed all day, rushed to pick up Mianmian at dusk, and after dropping her off early in the morning, rushed to the conference.

Her stomach was uncomfortable, and she had a slight fever lingering between thirty-seven point five to thirty-seven point eight degrees, which she didn’t pay much attention to.

After the press conference ended, she felt a cold sweat on her back.

Several media outlets surrounded her afterwards with various gossip questions. Chujiao noticed that Shi Su’s complexion wasn’t well and courteously blocked the media temporarily.

"Are you okay, Shi Su?" Chujiao took the chance to emerge from between the media, holding onto Shi Su’s hand. Because Shi Su only had a slight fever, she didn’t appear warm, but her complexion didn’t look good, "Is it because you haven’t rested these days? Jun is having a meeting across the street at Jiuyin Small Building. Would you like to find a room opposite to rest at?"
