A Favor Done, A Husband Won
Chapter 249 - 246: Jing Jihan, Open the Door
CHAPTER 249: CHAPTER 246: JING JIHAN, OPEN THE DOOR
It really wasn’t Xue Ling’s mindless, baseless intention to target Shi Su the next day.
The night before she saw Shi Su, she found a yellowed photo in Yi City’s wallet. The girl in the photo was sporting a neat ponytail, her face wearing a shy yet innocent smile. That was Shi Su, a teenage Shi Su. How it ended up being secretly kept in Yi City’s wallet for so many years is unknown.
That was Shi Su from the past.
So, what is the truth behind the previous likes incident?
Is the annulment of Yi City and Shi Yunyin’s engagement related to Shi Su?
Why Shi Su?
Why is it Shi Su?
Filled with such discontent and jealousy, she instinctively wanted to confront Shi Su upon seeing her. However, Yi City obviously did not conceal his nervousness and concern for her in front of Shi Su, and what stunned her even more was... the appearance of Jing Jihan...
Xue Ling, abandoned by the roadside, angrily picked up her phone, ready to call a familiar media reporter.
Just as the call connected, but before she could speak, she suddenly noticed someone beside her.
It was the short-haired woman who had appeared beside Mr. Jing today, tall and slim, clearly a woman yet possessing a strikingly sharp gaze.
"What are you doing?"
Catching the warning look in the short-haired woman’s eyes, Xue Ling instinctively frowned defensively and took a step back.
Wen Ke looked at her coldly and indifferently: "If you have thought through your escape, feel free to spread gossip about Mr. Jing."
"But if you lack any capital for self-preservation..."
Wen Ke’s voice was slow, light, and cold, her gaze fixed on Xue Ling, as if swords and shadows flashed by, and what was even more chilling was her faint smile that made one’s heart shiver.
Xue Ling’s eyes trembled, her hand gripping the phone froze for a moment, hesitatingly putting it down slowly, not daring to dial out.
-
In the afternoon, Shi Su went straight to the studio. After Jun returned, she had a meeting with her in the studio, and during the meeting, she set her phone to silent.
It was dark by the time she took a taxi back to Kaixing Mansion. As she returned, she even thought, after all, she hadn’t paid next year’s rent, and Jing Jihan had no intention of collecting it, so she could move out at any time.
Since it hadn’t even started, a clean break should be even more thorough.
She might not have experience in relationships, but at least she has a bottom line when it comes to feelings.
If things are so unclear, it’s best to say goodbye early and not leave herself even a chance for entanglement.
After picking up Mianmian and returning home, she entered the house, knowing the password had already been changed. But since this apartment belonged to Jing Jihan, who knew if he had any miraculous ways to get in.
She timely went and locked the door from the inside, her steps a bit weak and soft as she leaned against the sofa.
Mianmian, unknown if she got criticized by the teacher at kindergarten or what, was especially quiet after returning home, playing by herself on the carpet beside the sofa for a while before saying she was tired and wanted to sleep.
Just as Shi Su was not feeling well today and lacked the energy to play with her, she took Mianmian to the bedroom and bathed her, then changed her into a nightdress and let her lay down quietly.
As for herself, she took a simple shower, and as she soaked in the bathtub, she nearly fell asleep, immediately getting out of it to check her temperature, finding herself with a slight fever.
Shi Su intended to sleep for a while, but who knew after her shower, she heard Mianmian crying from the bedroom.
She quickly went to check, only to find Mianmian, looking uncomfortable, rolling on the bed upon hearing Shi Su’s approach. She quickly sat up pitifully holding her little blanket and said, "Mommy, I’m cold."
Shi Su walked over in surprise, touching Mianmian’s forehead, immediately frowning from the heat.
How come Mianmian is having a fever too?
Was it because she was overwhelmingly busy these days and lacked the meticulous care of Mrs. Qin, dressing Mianmian too lightly when sending her to kindergarten?
Shi Su promptly got the thermometer again to measure her temperature.
Mianmian was currently running a fever at thirty-eight point five degrees.
No wonder the little girl was lacking energy when she came home at night.
"You have a fever, I’ll get you some medicine. Take some fever relief medicine and sleep well after." Shi Su said as she stood up to find the medicine.
When Mianmian had her first fever as a child, she was only seven or eight months old, and Shi Su was terrified, feeling utterly helpless. Over the years of raising the child alone, she no longer fears minor ailments like headaches or fevers, having thoroughly equipped the house with medicine suitable for children.
After giving Mianmian fever relief medicine, Shi Su almost forgot she wasn’t feeling well, staying by the bedside, continuously using warm towels to wipe Mianmian’s body to help her cool down physically.
After finally coaxing Mianmian to sleep, Shi Su was exhausted as she leaned against the bed, closing her eyes to rest for a while.
But because she was always worried about Mianmian, her sleep was not deep.
She probably only slept for an hour when suddenly she woke with a start, quickly reached out to feel Mianmian again, found her temperature hadn’t come down, checked the temperature again, it had gone up to thirty-nine degrees directly.
Recently, since Jiang City entered winter, flu has been rampant. Mrs. Qin’s son had a type B flu with high fever for several days, only receiving anti-inflammatory injections and fever relief medicine at the hospital.
Although Shi Su was experienced in taking care of children, her own body was somewhat running out of steam, getting up again to fetch medicine, taking out flu medicine bought for Mianmian last year when she had a cold, checking the expiration date, seeing there’s still a year and a half to go, quickly dissolving some in water for Mianmian to drink.
Whenever Mianmian gets sick, she’s particularly behaved. While other children might be vomiting, crying, and howling, Mianmian quietly sleeps or clings to her saying she’s sleepy. This little girl’s constitution has always been very good, but when she gets a fever, it’s truly intense heat.
Once Mianmian suddenly had a high fever of forty, almost reaching forty-one degrees. At that time, Shi Su sat in a hospital in the United States, anxious as though she was about to burn up. Later, the doctor explained some related knowledge about children’s fevers, allowing her to gradually become more level-headed about such matters.
After much turmoil, Mianmian finally fell asleep. Fever medicine can only be taken every four hours, and Shi Su kept physically cooling her, until late at night when giving Mianmian the second dose of fever relief medicine. Once Mianmian fell asleep again, Shi Su’s vision darkened, barely walking out of the bedroom, pouring herself a glass of water, drinking a few sips, and returning to the room to check Mianmian’s forehead.
The fever still hadn’t subsided.
If this high fever persists for another hour, then despite the risk of exposure to severe flu viruses at the hospital, they must head there.
Shi Su sat by the bed, one hand holding Mianmian’s burning little hand, the other hand pressing her own forehead, her head throbbing terribly.
At this moment, a doorbell rang outside. She leaned against the bed with closed eyes, as if she hadn’t heard it, until her phone suddenly rang beside her. Turning her head, she saw it was an unfamiliar number.
She hesitated before picking it up.
Jing Jihan’s voice came through the phone, a clear and tranquil sound like a gentle breeze on a sweltering summer night: "Open the door."
