"It's a pity we never got a chance to talk. Goodbye, brave boy. Boom!"

As you may have guessed, the carrot served as an improvised bomb. But much to Miss Loreen Dodson's misfortune, the moment she thrust the pseudo-vegetable at me, I wasted no time slipping it into my inventory. There was no explosion.

"Eh? What's wrong? Is it broken?" the White Rabbit muttered, discouraged.

"Sasha, deal with the others, and I'll take care of Miss Dodson," I said quietly, ensuring prying ears missed the last part of my sentence.

"What? How did you..." The rabbit froze the moment I said her name. Seizing the confusion, I charged forward, intending to quickly neutralize the blonde by shackling her hands. But as soon as she noticed my move, she jumped back instantly, hastily regaining her composure.

Behind me, a real action scene unfolded. Bordeaux swiftly neutralized the nearest long-eared robber. Borrowing an army knife from his belt, she rolled aside, evading a hail of bullets. The gunfire jolted the other cartoons to their senses, and they immediately opened fire on the nimble young woman. Sasha threw a knife at the man aiming a machine gun at her. The cold weapon pierced his shoulder, forcing him to drop the gun with relaxed fingers. Drawing a pistol from her back, Bordeaux mercilessly shot at the hare gang. Their bodies fell in batches, thanks to my bodyguard's lightning-fast shooting.

I wasn't particularly worried about the long-eared ones. First, I knew Sasha's pistol fired tranquilizer rounds, so despite the ostentatious cruelty, none of the robbers would die. Second, I simply didn't care about them. My focus was solely on the White Rabbit.

"Who are you? How do you know who I am?" Lauren Dodson asked, the question tormenting her.

"My name is Alex Reath. And I know much more than you can imagine."

"In that case, I have no right to leave you alive," she said, pointing at me with the tip of her umbrella. I knew it was some kind of automatic rifle, so there was no time to lose. Pulling a small ball from my inventory, I triggered it, causing a bright flash. Having disabled the Rabbit, I rushed forward and barely managed to disarm her. She quickly recovered, dodging a couple of blows as I jumped back—not too far, so I wouldn't lose the distance.

"How dare you resist the Queen of Crime," the blonde hissed through her teeth, her rabbit ears twitching involuntarily.

"You are so cute," I couldn't help but say.

"W-what? R-really? You think I'm c-cute?" The girl stammered, clearly unprepared for this. I don't know how it works exactly, but the self-proclaimed Queen of Crime's ears started spinning like a propeller. She thinks she's a queen, though in reality, she's just a minor villain. What can I say...

"Of course. You're very sweet. Though completely crazy. Just like one of my friends." Marvel created White Rabbit as a counterweight to Harley Quinn. True, it didn't quite work, but she's still an interesting character.

"What to do? No one's ever called me c-cute before," she said, touching her cheeks briefly. This is what happens when you spend your whole life inside four walls, never interacting with normal, adequate people. Her parents, who couldn't tell the difference between love and recklessness, pushed her to become who she is. She just wanted to be different, to live a different life, and in the end, she released her alter ego—the White Rabbit.

"No! I can't get distracted now," she slapped her face. Activating her jet boots, the villainess appeared before me in an instant, her leg raised to strike. Only thanks to my hypersensitive intuition did I manage to avoid the quick lunge in time. It was close...

"Hey. Loreen, can we calm down and talk? I don't want to hurt such a beautiful young lady."

"Beautiful?! No, no... You're distracting me. It's not fair!" She pointed her finger at me, offended.

"Don't you like me?" I asked with a smile.

"Well... I don't know," she shyly turned her head away. "I..."

The wail of sirens reached us as Rabbit swallowed her words. She looked around in confusion at the pile of bodies of her henchmen lying in disarray on the floor; at the crowd huddled tightly together, who for some reason had lost the fear in their eyes and looked around curiously, expecting something incomprehensible; and at the girl with a gun, who towered over everyone with immeasurable dignity.

"Looks like I'm going to prison this time, heh-heh," the blonde laughed resignedly. "All because of you! But why did you and your girlfriend have to come here today of all days? Couldn't you have come tomorrow?"

"She's not my girlfriend. She's my bodyguard."

"Tch, I hate both of you!"

"Really? And it seemed to me a spark flew between us. Was it just me?" I sighed, resigned.

"You," the girl growled, "You better shut up! Because of you I got caught, so nothing can happen between us!"

"So, if you didn't get caught, we'd be together?"

"What does that have to do with anything?! Besides, the exit is surrounded. There's no other way..."

Pondering the bitter reality of her situation, the White Rabbit didn't notice a small orange object flying past her. There was an explosion, and a section of the wall crumbled into a mountain of stones and dust.

"Wow, your carrot really is a powerful thing," I whistled. "Well, what are you waiting for? There was no door, and now there is one."

"Are you letting me go?" Lauren asked, stunned.

"But why?"

"The spark, remember?" I winked at her.

Honestly, I had no plans for the White Rabbit. I let her go simply because I liked her, despite all her madness. Then my sixth sense told me I had made the right choice. Judge me if you want, but I do what I think is right. I'm not Batman, not a hero, not a savior, not an avenger... at least, not like everyone else. Even wearing the mask of the Intellectual, I act at my own discretion. I have intuition, and it tells me if my choice is in danger of being wrong.

"I..." Not knowing what to say, the rabbit threw another carrot at me and fled through the new exit.

"Call me!"

I caught the vegetable and saw numbers scratched on it.

"Ha-ha, that was a fun day," I laughed, watching the retreating figure.

While lost in thought, a squad of policemen burst into the bank. One of the guardians of law and order headed straight toward me. Well, I'll be—familiar faces all around.

"I am Captain Yuriko Watanabe of the New York Police Department. Please raise your hands and follow me."

An unexpected beginning...
