Calm before the storm

Oh yes the league had from multiple angles all but told me to stay out of it as they tried to bring order to this chaos they had to deal with. I could understand why too as if I showed up and fixed even a small part of the problem it would bring the uncomfortable fact I had been at the center of stopping several disasters back into the light. Right now especially the league couldn't afford that kind of public scrutiny. The Kanto league in particular was down four gym leaders with two of them being the the third last and final gyms traditionally hit by challengers during the league season.-

Surge and Sabrina's gyms being leaderless weren't as big an issue as the season was towards it's end already so few challengers were going there but the same was definitely not the case for Fushia and Viridian gyms. It got so bad in fact the Elite four themselves had to temporarily take over the empty gym leader positions. While this made the league seem just as strong as always anyone with a deeper understanding could tell that it was a façade, a mask over how bad the situation really was.-

There was hope at the end of this tunnel however as over the past two years powerful, talented and most importantly young trainers had rose to fame like a storm. Brendan, May, Wes and Professor Oaks own grandchild Gary were at the forefront of the younger generation at elite level strength each. Gary Oak was seen as the most popular for his flare and backing while Brendan and May were seen as the most approachable and friendly. Wes was kind of the odd man out as he was quite rough around the edges having grown up in Orre and being a former criminal. -

It didn't help that he and Rui were practically attached at the hip so he was also off the market romantically as well. Most people actually compared him to myself in terms of how he acted with the main difference being his close relationship with Rui. Professor Oak had already told me that the league was trying to convince these four to take up the gym leader positions but there were mixed results. Gary Oak saw it as the next step on his training career and already agreed to take Surges Gym over after a brief period of gym leader training so he wasn't overwhelmed by the responsibility.-

May flat out rejected the recruitment attempt as she had only became a trainer to help further her fathers research and becoming a gym leader ran counter to that purpose. Brendan was on the fence as he apparently still wanted to travel the world like I did before being settled in a single place. At the same time however through his father and Birch he understood just how desperately the league in Kanto needed him to accept.-

I did not envy him at being forced to choose between duty and personal hopes and dreams. It was one of the reasons I myself never got too integrated into the society of this world, I knew it would likely stand in the way of my goal eventually. Wes on the other hand was simply damned near impossible to find apparently as after going through Hoenns circuit he vanished from public view. He was seen occasionally so everyone knew he was still around but otherwise his whereabouts were elusive. Personally this made me smile as if I wasn't wrong the guy had seen the way the league tries to bind talented and powerful trainers to itself and chose to distance himself before it was too late.-

Unlike most trainers who had just "officially" started their journey Wes was experienced from all of his past experiences before he got his official start. He was a part of a nasty criminal organization that stole pokemon from trainers for resale and had even stopped a slightly problematic criminal group himself. He was NOT some naïve child who didn't understand how the world worked. After leaving Orre he had likely also gotten a good look at my own record and figured he'd copy some of it since it clearly worked.-

As for Giovanni and Koga with what remained of Rocket there was no further noise from them but everyone knew this was merely the calm before the storm. It was only a matter of time before they did something to try and reassert their groups criminal empire but for now things were mostly quiet. I had no intention of slacking off though and focused most of my attention on pushing my divinity closer and closer to the edge. A week passed by in a blink before anything of note came up and my progress during that time had stalled at ninety nine percent converted.-

The problem was that I had fully converted my abilities to the reality domain but I was not yet a god so I clearly missed something. I couldn't for the life of me figure out what exactly it was however. Helpless I could only leave it alone for now and instead turned my attention to the interesting change in the status of things, the arrival of Wes to Kanto. Clearly he wasn't here to accept a Gym leader position as Oak had asked me if I had somehow called him to Kanto.-

Obviously I hadn't but that didn't mean his arrival was unrelated to me at all. In truth I was willing to bet that was precisely why he had come to Kanto. I didn't doubt that I had left quite the impression on the guy and it wasn't much of a stretch to think he'd want to come and see how he stacked up now that nearly three years had passed. I didn't go out looking for him however as I figured he'd come to me all on his own since my place was quite the popular topic of conversation these days.-

More than a few visitors from plant hobbyist groups and even researchers had been nearby my plot of land to look over it's vibrant splendor. That didn't include my many fans who hoped to catch even a glimpse of me or my world famous pokemon. Naturally there were plenty of people who wanted something from me as well but I ignored them one and all. The little pixie on the other hand was a crowd favorite as it almost everyday frolicked amongst the plants, watering, fertilizing and trimming them as I had taught it.
