CHAPTER 1237: CHAPTER 243: BEYOND CONTROL, WAVES OF PASSION (PART 6)
"You say you don’t like her, yet for her, you say such things about me. I’m carrying your child, you ungrateful wretch. If you dare step out of here today, I... I’ll..." The last two words remained unspoken.
Jiang Li paused in his steps, spoke without turning his head, "Your temper has grown more recently. I understand the burden of pregnancy, so I won’t argue with you. But don’t spread such words outside and tarnish someone’s reputation, or don’t blame me for disregarding our marital bond." With those words, he strode out of the room.
Yan Zi saw that he had really left, angrily swept everything from the table onto the ground, her eyes fierce, "Don’t ever come back if you dare." With that, she collapsed onto the table, crying bitterly.
As Jiang Li opened the door, he saw Pei Xinyi standing there. His pupils suddenly contracted, his hand at his side slightly clenched, his eyes rippling like water, quickly returning to calm.
He pursed his lips, his voice somewhat hoarse, "Please excuse the scene."
Pei Xinyi looked at the man before her, her gaze slightly lost for a moment, but soon she wore a gentle smile, enchanting in the night’s embrace.
"How have you been all these years?"
Jiang Li turned to close the door, walked to the courtyard with his hands behind his back, stared at the bright moon in the sky, and said blandly, "What’s good or bad? You saw it yourself, ha..." a mocking smile on his lips.
Feeling heartache, Pei Xinyi looked at him, lifting a hand to rest on his shoulder, her gentle touch stirred that lonely heart.
"You’ve suffered...."
A softness flitted through Jiang Li’s heart, reminding him of many years ago... but soon the tenderness in his eyes faded layer by layer. He turned and took a step back, saying softly, "Fourth sister-in-law, please mind your manners."
Back then, she was his fourth sister-in-law, and he was her brother-in-law. Status and ethics had become an unbridgeable chasm between them.
Pei Xinyi’s outstretched hand froze in mid-air, her smile carrying a hint of desolation, pitiful and woeful. Jiang Li thought that by not dwelling on the past for years, the pain would fade, but upon seeing her again, it felt as if his heart was thrown into a grinder, aching with every breath.
He turned away, resolving not to look at her.
"I know, you still blame me...." Pei Xinyi’s smile looked so bitter, "I was also in a quandary back then. Over the years, I’ve always dreamt... of our past...."
"Let’s forget the past. I don’t blame you. We just made different choices. Now we both have families, fourth sister-in-law, don’t bring up old affairs, lest it adds unnecessary troubles. I have things to attend to, so I’ll leave now. Take care, fourth sister-in-law."
With those words, he was about to leave.
"Ah Li..." Pei Xinyi murmured, filled with endless feelings and memories, successfully making Jiang Li pause.
He closed his eyes, mind drifting back to many years ago, that girl, with the purest eyes and the sweetest smile, tilted her head and called him, "Teacher Ah Li, can I call you that? It feels closer...."
In that glance, he lost his heart.
And after that... what happened then...
"I... I’m sorry." She covered her mouth, crying. She cried so easily, when in pain, when wronged, even when bitten by a mosquito, her eyes would redden, her sobs like a kitten, soft and weak, especially heart-wrenching.
The next moment, he left without looking back.
Pei Xinyi leaned against a tree, as if all her strength had left her, crying and laughing.
Yun Ya thought this entanglement of love and hatred was indeed dramatic. While thinking so, she was suddenly embraced from behind, and her heart skipped a beat. Just as she was about to struggle, she heard someone whisper hotly in her ear, "Did you enjoy eavesdropping on the conversation?"
Yun Ya rolled her eyes, relaxing as she nestled into his embrace, "Brother Yan, you startled me."
Yan Song raised an eyebrow, "If I were a bad guy, what would you do?"
Yun Ya huffed, "I’d bite him to death."
"Are you a dog?" Yan Song said, grabbing Yun Ya’s hand, finding it cold. His brow furrowed, "You don’t take care of your own health?"
Yun Ya laughed slyly, turned around, and hugged his neck, "Because I know you’ll keep me warm."
Yan Song smiled, glancing at her, slipped her hands into his embrace, straight into his collar, pressing them against his hot chest. Yun Ya hissed, instinctively wanting to withdraw her hands. Yan Song, however, held her wrists with one hand, giving her no chance to pull away, and with the other hand supporting her buttocks, carried her into the West Warm Pavilion.
