CHAPTER 52: 049 BENEVOLENCE TO THE EXTREME, DUTY TO THE FULLEST

Kang Jinse walked up to Yun Shu, bowed her head and whispered quietly, "Aunt Yun, I’m leaving. I hope you take good care of yourself, and I’ll come to see you whenever I have the time."

Yun Shu nodded indifferently, "I hope you take good care of yourself in the future."

Kang Jinse’s teeth bit her lips tightly, swallowing down all her unwillingness and bitterness, she turned on her high heels and left, her spine straight as an arrow, quickly disappearing at the entrance.

Yun Shu, tired, rubbed her brow and, with Yun Sha’s help, stood up to walk upstairs as if forgetting the presence of Yun Ya and Yun Miao.

Yun Ya watched Yun Shu’s graceful silhouette, his thin lips curving into a slight, cold and mocking smile.

When Yun Shen came home that evening and learned that Kang Jinse was not pregnant and had already left, he was stunned for a moment and then casually entered his study as if it were nothing out of the ordinary.

If one spoke of being unfeeling, none could surpass Yun Shen, but that was only because the person to whom he could give his undying affection hadn’t yet appeared.

——

"Shenshen, are you busy?" Yun Shu’s gentle voice came from outside the door.

Yun Shen closed the file in his hand and said indifferently, "Come in."

The next moment, the door was pushed open from the outside, and Yun Shu walked in with a glass of milk.

"It’s late at night, you should rest. Leave the work till tomorrow. If you exhaust yourself, Mother will be heartbroken." She said, placing the glass of milk in front of Yun Shen.

"Since you were little, you couldn’t sleep without a glass of milk before bed."

Yun Shen looked at the glass of milk before him, still steaming with the scent of milk.

He remembered as a child, when the family was poor and often couldn’t even afford meals, but he loved drinking milk. His mother would walk ten kilometers every morning to a dairy farm in town to do hard labor just so that he could have a glass of fresh milk. Due to the prolonged hard work, his mother developed a spinal problem that pained her terribly on rainy days.

He picked up the glass of milk and drank it all in one gulp.

Yun Shu’s gaze was tender and loving as she looked at him, "Shenshen, you should find a caring person, someone to take care of you. Then mother can rest assured."

Yun Shen’s eyes narrowed slightly, "Let’s talk about this matter later."

"Shenshen." Yun Shu said helplessly, "Are you still thinking about Ji Lanyi? That woman and you, there’s no possibility of a future."

Yun Shen suddenly lifted his gaze, his eyes cold and deep, making Yun Shu pause slightly.

"Isn’t this exactly what you wanted? The Ji Family has been ruined, their assets are in my hands now, what more could you be dissatisfied with?"

A sharp pain seemed to prick the tip of Yun Shu’s heart, "Shenshen, are you still blaming me?"

Looking at Yun Shu’s suddenly pale face, Yun Shen sighed helplessly, "Mom, I’m not blaming you." Tiredly rubbing his brow, "The company is still unstable right now, and I don’t want to deal with matters of the heart."

Yun Shu’s expression softened somewhat, "This family needs a lady of the house. Since you’re busy, let mother help you decide. I will surely pick a wife for you that will leave you satisfied."

Yun Shen felt somewhat irritated inside and said indifferently, "You decide as you see fit."

Yun Shu smiled contentedly.

"What are you planning to do with Yun Ya and Yun Miao?" Yun Shu suddenly asked, "After all, if newcomers enter the household, these two kids will become an awkward presence. Although our family can still afford to raise two more children, we can’t let the newcomer feel wronged."

She wanted to find a wife for Yun Shen that could help with his business, take meticulous care of him, and come from an impeccable background. Therefore, dealing with Yun Ya and Yun Miao was a priority issue.

"What do you think?" Yun Shen asked in return.

Yun Shu looked directly into Yun Shen’s eyes, instantly putting pressure on him, "Shenshen, tell me honestly, how much affection have you really invested in these two children?"

Yun Shen let out a cold snort, "Mom, are you mocking me? You know better than I do how those two came to be."

Yun Shu’s lips curled in a light smile, "Yes, children born of incest between siblings, truly filthy to the point that one feels disgusted just at the sight of them."

Yun Shen clenched his fists tightly, a sense of shame coursing through his veins which he deeply repressed.

Those words had almost become a shadow in his life, and the existence of those two children constantly reminded him of past follies – was it guilt, unease, or disgust...

He had never held them once since they were born, and even at the sight of the two children, he instinctively felt repulsion and could not bear to look directly into their clear eyes...

"Since that’s the case, out of sight, out of mind. Send the two of them to our old home in the north. I’ll have someone look after them. They can lead a simple and peaceful life, which is, after all, fulfilling the familial affection of your bloodline."

Yun Shen fell silent for a while, then finally nodded.

Yun Shu smiled and stroked his head as she used to when he was a boy, with a doting affection.

"You’ll have more children in the future. Those two carry dirty blood in their veins. To ensure their lifetime of safety, you’ve done enough as a father."

Yun Shen leaned on Yun Shu’s shoulder and gently closed his eyes.

So be it, he told himself, mother was right. Those children shouldn’t have come into the world in the first place. To let them grow up safe and healthy, he had fulfilled his responsibility as a father.
