A Single Mother's Farm of the Gods
Chapter 477: Ravenous Pests
CHAPTER 477: RAVENOUS PESTS
Walking pots. An animal that is built around one thing. Growing things behind its back. Although it is a pig, it isn’t a viable source of meat, making it a less desirable alternative.
However, it is a good way to grow crops without using seeds as the crops on its back grow without anyone sowing anything on it.
The only thing that one has to watch out for with this pig is that it has random crops. No one will know what will grow on its back until it fully matures, and that is what sucks a bit on this pig.
But Elaina is not complaining. Considering that it can continuously grow something on its back without anyone doing anything, that means that by just raising this pig, one can keep harvesting something on its back until the end of its life, and that alone is already a good thing.
Considering that this is the first time Elaina has met a pig like this, she needed further observation first. The Greater Ogres have some knowledge about them, but it isn’t enough for her to be fully acquainted with them so she will be observing them a bit more.
Setting matters with the pigs for a while, Elaina glanced at the golden fields of wheat before her. The first quarter of harvest will commence soon, meaning it will be a very long work with less chance to rest. However, thinking about the harvest and the money she will be earning from the hard work of everyone, Elaina is excited. Tomorrow will be the beginning of the harvesting process, and reaping what she has sown is something she always takes leisure in.
...
...
...
Problems seem to always flock to Elaina, but it is because there are some outside matters that she sometimes has going to need to deal with, and most of the time, just a bit of problem solving, and using a bit of force, then things are good to go. However, this time around, it seems that wasn’t the main case.
Elaina woke up the next day with a lot of noise outside. She can practically hear Yona and the others shouting. No one woke her up so she decided to check it out herself. Grabbing her sword, she headed outside her room only to be welcomed with buzzing noises and swarming black insects flying all over the fields.
The once golden sheen of wheat on the field that was still there yesterday has been destroyed and wrecked so badly that it looks like a tornado decimated all of her crops.
And the main culprit is none other than the flying mass of black insects that are currently being chased away by the others. Even the Grand Mage is helping out in chasing out of the insects by literally burning them...and yet it was like there was no end in sight.
Julia who seems to have just finished resting and was about to rejoin the fray saw Elaina.
"Sis, you are finally awake! Bad news! Darcero Kingdom is attacked by pests!"
"How could this happen?! I thought the farm’s barrier is enough to dispel threats like these?"
"I thought so as well since I program the barrier to work like that. But it seems these pests ignore barriers altogether and is very resistant to magic attacks! We have been dealing with them for quite a while and even the Grand Sage is doing a total wipeout magic on them and yet they are still around!"
Elaina was shocked to hear this. If even the Grand Sage who is well in known to cast magic on a whole new level and able to wipe the pests in one go is still struggling to deal with them, then what about her who doesn’t even use magic in the first place?
The black insects are buzzing all over the place and have decimated the field of wheat that she and the others have painstakingly cared for. None of the golden color that it once had can be seen as the insects eat them as they pass by.
And aside from the wheat, the insects did not even stop at just the wheat, but also the other plants as well. The only crops that are safe and has not been touched by the insects are the medicinal herbs she have planted on the side of the farmhouse and the trees like the home of the bees are spared. It seems that the insects don’t dare approach the trees at all. The rest of the planted crops are being attacked.
Julia and Yona has been struggling on reinforcing the barrier while the Grand Sage is doing his best to burn away all of the insects in one go and keep the insects off the farm’s surroundings while the barrier is being reinforced.
The Feys, fairies and the Greater Ogres are helping one another to harvest the remaining crops that can still be salvaged from the decimated fields.
"Did all of these happen since earlier? Why no one woke me up if this is serious?!" Elaina is not liking the situation.
"Sis, we also just woke up as well! And besides, we can’t just wake you up if everything is already in chaos and we thought we can deal with the problem before you even wake up. If we have been here since earlier before these insects have attacked, we might have fully repeled the insects before they can even decimate the whole crops we have!"
"Sorry about that. I am just furious for not being able to do anything," Elaina sighed and gloomed at the situation. She got angry at Julia who is also doing her best.
"Don’t worry about it, Sis. But enough of that for now. Since they are resistant to magic, how about you try attacking them with the sword and slice them?"
"I don’t know if my sword can help but if it can alleviate the pressure, I will help," Elaina might not be able to use magic but she can certainly try.
Just as Elaina and the others are going to continue to repel the problem, the Harvest Goddess pop out of the stream’s water and flies up into the sky while holding up a pouch of powder where she begin sprinkling in the air.
As soon as she did, the ravenous insects that have been attacking nonstop suddenly fall dead.
"Finally! My time has come to shine!"
