Chapter 485: Stopping the Plague Source [I]
CHAPTER 485: STOPPING THE PLAGUE SOURCE [I]
Alfred went with Elaina and the kids to the Alchemy shop and bought tons of potions, including mana potions for the magic users in the group. Elaina was unsure why he would buy so many potions, even though Elaina had brought a lot of them before she left home.
"Why buy too much potion, Alfred? I bought a lot as well, shouldn’t you have saved the money spent on the potion instead?" Elaina asked.
"You haven’t seen the Calamity Summoner just yet, Elaina. Trust me when I say we will need lots of potions from this point onwards if we want to survive. Considering that not even one of your grandparents is here means we needed more potions to spare. We can’t just keep on relying on Layla for healing. Just because she knows how to heal multiple people and can use burst healing for rapid healing injuries, doesn’t mean that is enough. Layla would be too overwhelmed. Even if Adelaide helps out, both would end up too worn out to even deal with the additional problems that comes with the enemy we are dealing with."
"Is the Calamity Summoner really that dangerous?" Elaina asked.
"Yes. Even with your Grandparents suppressing the Calamity Summoner, things easily get out of hand pretty fast. Without the potions we have brought up in advanced back then, many would have succumbed and died by then. It might sounded like an exaggeration but I am not. I will explain on the way to our first search point on what makes these guys dangerous."
Once the potions have been hauled and ready inside the storage dimensional bag that Elaina is carrying, the group is now heading to the first place that Alfred suspects to be the first lair. If they are wrong, they will proceed to the next possible location.
"So, Dad, what makes this monster we are looking for dangerous? Based on what Mom suspects, it only conjures plagues and pestilence like those black locusts right? How does that make it too dangerous?" Adelaide asked.
"Calamity Summoners are indeed the bringer of pestilence, however, that is not the only thing that they are capable of. Aside from conjuring pestilence and various form of plagues that can affect people in various ways, they are also capable of using and summoning disasters such as earthquakes, tornados, storms and various things that would make them the universal source of those things. However, during battle, these monsters use the plague in battle differently. They are versatile magic users and they are also good summoners as well, meaning that if they have the power to summon storms, they can also summon allies to fight with and each allies it summons becomes a stronger enemy that will be harder to kill the longer it remains as not only they become mini Calamity Summoners but they will also be capable of summoning more of them and cloning them to the fullest."
"Wait, so it can multiply itself if it wanted to?" Elaina frowned.
"That’s right. And if dealing one is already troublesome, how about dealing with multiple of them do? It makes the situation really bad to the point that one would need to flee if necessary just to avoid them. But leaving them behind is not an answer as they will not stop with just casting one plague. If it wanted to increase the problem of a plague, it can just increase itself by cloning then unleash a hellish power."
"Does that mean they are a mage built in a necromancer and a hexer body?" Elaina is not liking what she is hearing as she tries to confirm more.
"Basically yes. Dangerous and deadly enough that one cannot leave them alone. One should kill them before they become a big problem that stopping them is no longer a viable option."
They soon arrived at the first location; The Abandoned Cemetery.
"Abandoned Cemetery?" Raye glanced at the surroundings of the place. It was eerie even though it was broad daylight. There are no people in the surroundings aside from them.
"I heard the kingdom formerly called the place the Safehaven Cemetery. However, after one incident where a necromancer summoned multiple corpses out of their graves, it was soon abandoned in fear that any people buried here again will rise up and become part of the undead or they become skeleton soldiers," Alfred said as he pulls out his sword.
Elaina and the others also started to get their stuff ready as they survey the place. Despite being eerie, there no sign that there are problems there that would cause any concern at the moment.
"Alfred, are you sure we are looking in the right place?" Elaina asked. It seems she isn’t convinced.
"Yes. Calamity Summoners stays on places where they can easily summon something and can easily gather resentment which the monster converts into calamities and pestilence. If we don’t find any right now, we would be lucky and unlucky at the same time."
The Abandoned Cemetery is very big but the place is pretty much open, allowing everyone to easily survey the place without much problem. However, Elaina can tell that there is no need for them to find the enemy if it was located in the open. Considering that what they are looking for is a monster that has yet to mature, it is most likely that the enemy they are looking for has yet to fully grasp its power and would be hiding somewhere for the time being and bide its time to get familiarized with their power."
"Looks like there’s no problem here, Mom, Dad. Let alone one undead, I don’t see any enemies here. It seems the first location we are looking for is a dud," Arthur shook his head.
Everyone also nodded. Eventually, even Alfred shakes his head. "I also think this place is not the place we are looking for. This place is very clean and although there was an eerie feeling, I doubt it was from the enemy were looking for."
Everyone sighed in relief after hearing that and prepared to go...aside from Layla who remained. Elaina noticed this. "Layla, we are about to leave, what are you doing?"
However, the latter pursed her lips and put her forefinger in front of it while her eyes are closed. It was like she was doing something. Everyone also approaches as they are bewildered on what Layla is doing.
Just as Arthur is going to shake Layla, she opens her eyes and looked at everyone with a serious expression.
"I don’t think this place is a dud. Our target is currently hiding and it was present in one of the underground mausoleums here. Based on what the spirits of the water is whispering at me, the enemy is currently channeling its power to cause a massive drought. It might not be a plague, but it seems that it is planning to cause shortage of water soon."
Alfred expression turned sour upon hearing this and pulled his sword. "I see. A catacomb. One of the mausoleums huh? I didn’t thought of that. I heard there are some rich people funded on building the underground cemetery in this place to make a catacomb and that only the rich are going to be buried on. I didn’t know a mausoleum is the entrance of that place. And considering that we have not yet searched them, there is a chance that they are present underground. We don’t even know how big it is underneath."
"That means there is a higher chance that monster is hiding here?" Arthur frowned.
"Most likely. If Layla said she is being whispered with water spirits, then there is no need to doubt about it. That monster is underneath this place. Looks like we hit the jackpot," Adelaide grinned.
With the help of the spirits, Elaina and the group are now on their way to find the target. This time, they will thwart it and prevent a bigger disaster than the Black Locusts.
