CHAPTER 489: CALAMITY SUMMONER [II]

Flies start to fly all over the place, rats crawl out of the nooks of the catacombs. Even mosquitoes and various other insects that can bring various sicknesses are appearing all around the Calamity Summoner.

If before, the Plague Bringer was nothing but a little inconvenience, the Calamity Summoner is a danger by itself. Sources of sickness scatter all around it, and it easily breaks through the vine binding it.t

"Damn it, we need to kill it fast! Everyone, do not get too close to the Calamity Summoner. If you get real close, the pests it summons will surround you real quick!"

Adelaide quickly waved her staff and shot a beam of magic to the Calamity Summoner, only for it to be blocked by a bunch of mosquitoes and flies that flock together to form a thick shield around the monster. Many of the insects that tanked the damage died after that attack, but there are still a lot, and it seems the Calamity Summoner decided to just replenish the insects lost in one wave of its hands.

Seeing that the group did not retreat even after it awakened its new power, the Calamity Summoner points its finger towards the group, and the insects immediately fly towards the group.

Raye quickly cast his basic fire magic at the flying insects and started burning them. They are flammable, sure, but they are plenty, and Raye’s mana is insignificant compared to Adelaide and Layla. He even only uses these magic spells to enhance his sword for elemental damage. Other than that, he barely has mana that can be considered good to have as a mage, but only good for a magic swordsman.

It didn’t take too long for Raye to start running out of mana, and that is what makes the trouble.

"Raye, switch with me slowly and recover your mana. Layla, support me. Alfred, how about you use the beam attacks of your sword?" Adelaide suggested.

"I only have limited charges of those beam attacks since I didn’t kill many skeletons in the first place."

"That should be enough. Once the insects are cleared up, we take advantage of the insects dying to attack the main enemy."

Elaina can only watch as things unfold. Not only can she not contribute to anything combat-related, but her support ability is close to non-existent. She wanted to ensure and attack the enemy herself, but she couldn’t just do that and ensure the enemy was dead.

While she was looking at her children fight, the Calamity Summoner was waving its hands, and winds swirl around it. It was like mini tornadoes were forming around it.

"The Calamity Summoner is still pretty unstable, and it isn’t similar to the Calamity Summoner we have faced with your grandparents before, but if we just leave it out alone like this, we will be facing a much more dangerous version of it. Before it fully realizes its power, we need to defeat it as soon as possible," Alfred grits his teeth as he observes the situation.

"Is there a specific way to kill it? We can’t even approach it, and we can’t keep on relying on magic to fight it!" Elaina frowned.

"Yes, but it is dangerous, and there is a chance that it can fail and we will have trouble helping the one who will need to deal the final strike against it."

"We can’t just blast magic spells on that monster continuously?"

"It is possible, but by the time we do, everyone will run out of mana. Although I bought a lot of mana potions earlier, there is a chance that they will not be enough. Given the unpredictability of the current Calamity Summoner we are facing, it might try to utilize its strongest abilities, making it difficult for us to deal with it. And the more delays in killing it, the more chances that the tables will turn on us."

Elaina turned to look at the situation. Despite Adelaide and Raye doing their best in using magic spells to dispel the insects being sent to disrupt everyone, Layla supporting both the casters to ensure that not a single insect gets real close, and Arthur doing his best to keep the rats at bay, the attacks are not going to hit well and deal anything to the main trouble.

Just as she was having trouble on what they do, that’s when Elaina saw the Shield Seed she had thrown earlier. It is still on standby, but when some occasional insects get really close, the shield seed immediately bounces the insects quickly and deals with them. It seems the insects that get bounced by the shield seed are dead, which means it is indeed doing its work.

Elaina is really confident in her sword abilities. She might not be a master, but these sword strikes she has are something that have killed multiple enemies. And it if this is combined with Arthur and Alfred’s swords, even if they can’t cut deep enough, there is a chance of it. A chance. And if they wanted to end the battle as soon as possible before it becomes a nuisance and danger, Elaina has to take the gamble.

She rummages through her bag and throws another seed to the ground, producing another Shield Seed. She bought lots of it since she knew that if they were fighting, the shield was the one that would take all the brunt of the damage. She kinda wished that she had bought lots of the Sword Seed, but considering that she was a sword user, she didn’t think too much about it until then. But that is not the only seed she dropped; there is one more that she hasn’t used yet, as there is nothing for it to be used just yet, earlier, but now that they are dashing straight to danger, might as well add it for safety purposes, and that is the Healing Pod Seed.

"Alfred, Arthur, come with me, if magic is not enough to deal the killing blow, then we’ll brute force it and kill it with my plan. This is reckless, but we will be relying on the support of our own magic users for this plan to fully work."

Elaina made a quick rundown on their plan of using the Shield Seed as their primary defense to block the insects from attacking and swarming them. While Adelaide and Raye help with dealing with the thinning damage to the swarm, Layla will focus on supporting everyone, including them, as they rush to the target. Once they get close enough, the three of them will strike the Calamity Summoner as soon as they are in range.

"Reckless, but we have no choice. But can this plant shield of yours withstand that small tornadoes it was summoning?" Alfred asked.

"We don’t know if we don’t try. How about we do it as soon as we can?" Elaina grinned.

"This is crazy, Mom. But I like this, it pumps excitement in me!"

The group nodded and asked Arthur to relay the plan to the magicians in their group, who also agreed like nothing.

"God of Farming, I know that I always take your blessings for granted, but for once, I am trusting these creations of yours to handle our safety. I hope I won’t regret the quality of your creation soon."

The God of Farming is listening to her prayer and smiles.

"[Did I ever let you down, my dear believer, Elaina? Go and save the land and your farm, even if this work is not related to farm work at all. Treat it as a job given by the gods! Get rid of the source of the plagues that have yet to happen!]"

Arthur and Alfred turn to Elaina’s side while Layla casts a regular barrier around them.

"Mother, Father, Arthur, good luck, and we will ensure that we will support you three to the battle," Adelaide nodded to the group.

Elaina exhales calmly as she holds her sword’s handle tight, and she closes her eyes. Once she felt it, she opened her eyes and gave the signal.

"Attack!"

The three run towards the Calamity Summoner that is currently being protected by its magic and pests that are ready to offer their lives to protect it from any harm. But thanks to the support of the two magic users behind them and the Shield Seeds doing their job to repel the insects, the trio is closing the gap with everyone, and it didn’t take too long before they have gotten close.

Elaina’s eyes are focused. Even with all of the obstacles in their path, Elaina did not flinch, and in her eyes, she saw the optimal path for their attack. Without hesitation, Elaina led the other two in the middle of the tornado wind attacks that acted as a secondary barrier to the monster.

The two didn’t doubt Elaina and followed her towards the array of twisters all over the place. Even the Calamity Summoner, which seems to be thinking of being safe in its current domain, was not even expecting the group to suddenly barge into its current safe space.

Elaina pushes her thumb to the hilt of her sword and swiftly makes a vertical slash upwards to the target with both Alfred and Arthur delivering their final blows to the monster themselves.

"Time to die, Calamity Summoner!"
