Chapter 2015: Chapter 2014: One Human, One Monkey
Evening came in the blink of an eye, and Bai Zepei knew that Bai Ruozhu was going to catch a “Ghost.” Inevitably, he was a little worried and tried to dissuade her, “If it’s not something valuable, just forget it. Don’t take that risk.”
“Second brother, don’t worry. There are so many people with me, plus I have my own Martial Arts skills, nothing will happen. Besides, I can dismiss those things, but what if he comes to steal again? Or what if we let someone like that continue to harm the townspeople?” Bai Ruozhu said.
Bai Zepei could only nod after hearing her, feeling a bit regretful that he hadn’t learned martial arts himself; otherwise, he could have helped out.
After Bai Ruozhu left, Jiao Ling and Fen Jiu went to look for her but ended up in Bai Zepei’s room to inquire.
Just before they knocked, Si Yihuan said to Bai Zepei with a cheeky smile, “I found some spices in that meat pancake. After eating, there’s always a fragrance in the mouth. Has it happened to you too?”
She leaned over to smell Bai Zepei’s mouth, and he blushingly avoided her, only for her to peck him quickly on the lips.
Boom, Bai Zepei’s face turned red to his neck, and he saw his little wife grinning stealthily. He hurriedly calmed himself down. He is a man, how could he let her take advantage like this?
Thinking of this, he quickly pulled her close and took a fierce bite on her lips.
“Ouch, it hurts!” Si Yihuan shouted angrily.
At this time, there was a knock on the door, and Jiao Ling’s voice came from outside, “Zepei, have you gone to sleep?”
Both of their faces turned red to their necks; even if they were just fooling around, being caught by the Elder at such a time felt as if they’d been interrupted in the middle of something good, it was so awkward!
“No.” Bai Zepei was the first to react, quickly walked over to open the door.
“Do you know where Ruozhu went? Is it dangerous?” Jiao Ling asked as she entered the room, unaware of the ambiguous atmosphere inside.
Bai Zepei hastily explained Bai Ruozhu’s plan to go to the Pan Mansion at night. As expected, Jiao Ling looked displeased.
“Why didn’t she call us? What if it’s dangerous?” Jiao Ling said angrily.
“Aunt, Ruozhu was worried you wouldn’t get enough rest. She can’t trouble you with everything, especially something this minor, and you also have to watch over Lanlan.” Bai Zepei explained.
Jiao Ling’s expression softened slightly. Yes, if they left, what if the Poisonous Insect in Lanlan acted up again? Or what if Gufeng came to attack?
“I’ll stay at the Inn with Lanlan, Fen Jiu, you go check it out. It’s best if there’s no problem, but if there’s trouble, you’ll be an extra hand.” Jiao Ling said.
Fen Jiu nodded, “Then I’ll go. If there’s any situation here, give me a signal immediately.”
“Alright.”
By the time Fen Jiu got there, Bai Ruozhu was already fighting with the people inside.
It turned out that someone was pretending to be a ghost, and Bai Ruozhu realized the person was skilled in setting up an Array, creating the chilling effect upon entering the mansion.
“Bold thief, occupying others’ residence to play ghosts, even stealing my goods. No wonder you’re hiding in shame.” Bai Ruozhu chased the person while saying.
The person’s Martial Arts weren’t great, but their agility was exceptional, along with familiarity with the mansion’s Array, making it difficult to catch them.
“When did I ever steal from you?” The person finally spoke, and Bai Ruozhu discovered it was a woman!
But because she was entirely cloaked in black, continuously hiding in the Array, Bai Ruozhu couldn’t see her face nor guess her age.
Fen Jiu sneaked in quietly and hid at the entrance of a Maze; just as the woman was about to enter the Maze after Bai Ruozhu broke an Array, Fen Jiu struck her down.
“Ugh…” The woman was weak in inner strength, and with a single palm strike from Fen Jiu, she coughed up blood, suffering internal injuries.
Bai Ruozhu gave Fen Jiu a look, somewhat blaming him for being too heavy-handed. She remembered the first time she met Fen Jiu, he took action like this when displeased.
Fen Jiu gave an awkward smile; it wasn’t intentional, he genuinely couldn’t control his strength.
Jianqi stepped up, quickly pinpointed the woman’s acupoint, and then lifted her hood.
A fair oval face appeared, and under the moonlight, her face looked somewhat pale, looking like a ghost upon first glance, but a beautiful one.
However, Bai Ruozhu knew the paleness was due to a lack of sunlight. She stared at the woman and asked, “Who are you? Why are you pretending to be a ghost at the Pan Residence?”
The woman couldn’t move, showing a vexed expression, “I didn’t harm anyone, how did I affect you?”
“You stole my things, how could I not seek them back?” Bai Ruozhu showed an amused expression, examining the woman’s eyebrows and eyes, without a murderous or sinister look, implying she wasn’t wicked at heart.
“I haven’t gone out these days, how could I have stolen…” She didn’t finish before her expression changed slightly, remembering something. But she quickly regained a calm demeanor and asked, “So what do you want? Send me to the Government Office?”
Before Bai Ruozhu could speak again, a shadow flashed past, suddenly attacking Bai Ruozhu.
Bai Ruozhu dodged, striking back with her palm.
“No!” The woman screamed, and the shadow was thrown out, lying half-dead on the ground.
Bai Ruozhu looked closely, surprisingly finding a small monkey, which also possessed a certain level of Spirit. The claw it used to attack her just now carried a bit of inner strength, leading her to mistake it for an assassin and strike it down.
“Xiaomao, are you okay? Run, run quickly!” The woman cried out, unable to control her tears.
Unfortunately, the monkey showed no response, seemingly unable to move at all.
The woman displayed a look of terror, looking at Bai Ruozhu, “I beg you to save Xiaomao, it’s my only family. As long as it survives, I’ll turn myself in to the government! And I’ll compensate for the things you lost.”
Bai Ruozhu said nothing, walking directly toward the monkey. Her strike wasn’t light; the monkey suffered internal injuries, with damage to its heart and lungs.
She took a red pill and fed it to the monkey, then gave it a needle. It slowly opened its eyes.
As it opened its eyes, it bared its teeth at Bai Ruozhu, as if it wanted to fight Bai Ruozhu desperately.
“Xiaomao, no, this lady saved you. Don’t move anymore, heal well!” The woman’s voice had a sternness to it but was full of concern.
At Bai Ruozhu’s signal, Jianqi released the woman’s acupoint, and she rushed to Xiaomao, cradling it in her arms.
“Xiaomao, you’re not dead, that’s great, wonderful!” The woman said while crying, tears falling onto the little monkey, soaking the fur on its back. The little monkey reached to wipe the woman’s tears, but its frail body showed it was still far from recovering.
“A few days of rest and it will recover.” Bai Ruozhu said.
The woman came to her senses, suddenly kneeling to the ground, “Thank you, madam, for saving Xiaomao. I’ll fulfill my promise and turn myself in.”
Bai Ruozhu raised an eyebrow, “I’m more curious about why you’re pretending to be a ghost.”
