Capítulo 2024: Chapter 2023: The Pitiful Are Always Detestable
Bai Ruozhu silently cursed, “Serves you right,” and refrained from intervening, just watching quietly from the side. She didn’t believe this place would really be sealed off. If worse came to worst, her aunt would find a way to save her. Rather than panic and chaos, she should calm down and sort out her thoughts.
Those women tortured the procuress and wanted revenge on Yang Laosan, but after Yang Laosan cursed once, they dared not approach.
Seeing these cowardly gazes, Bai Ruozhu knew they had been harshly dealt with by Yang Laosan, leaving a shadow in their hearts, making them lose even the courage to hate.
Yang Laosan, injured and struggling, crawled over and grabbed the procuress’s hand, asking, “Chun Rong, how are you? Are you okay?”
The procuress let out a bitter laugh, “How could I be okay?”
Her eyes, unable to open from the pain, continually streamed tears. She hadn’t cried in years, but this time she was forced to cry.
Her real name was Zheng Chunrong, a daughter from a small household, but her father had a gambling addiction and ended up losing everything, leaving him no choice but to sell her, who still had some beauty, to the casino owner.
The casino owner was a sixty-year-old man, with several concubines at home. Zheng Chunrong lived a difficult life, several times nearly killed by someone.
Her husband was also a pervert who liked her for her good flesh and had people tattoo large peony flower patterns on her body, saying she then had a taste of grandeur. But she knew that every time he looked at her, there was scorn and disdain in his eyes, yet he enjoyed various games and torments on her.
During each painful day, she continuously asked herself why other women could live comfortable lives while she had to go through these sufferings.
She started to become ruthless little by little, using means to win the man’s heart and even conspired with Yang Laosan, the casino owner’s most trusted subordinate.
Soon, the casino owner passed away, with many in the clan fighting over the estate, but she had already pocketed a lot and opened this brothel with Yang Laosan.
Every time she saw those young women captured, she thought of her past self, and her heart would crazily laugh, feeling the world was finally fairer.
Even now, although unable to escape death, she did not regret it.
She suddenly lifted her head and said to the women, “Even if forced to serve customers, you are acting as pure young ladies. If you meet someone sincere, life won’t necessarily be bad. Yet now, that woman broke in, causing you to lose your lives here, and even after death, your reputations won’t be favorable.”
The captured women panicked; frequently tortured, although physically untouched, most of their clothes were in disarray. If discovered like this, explaining wouldn’t be easy.
A woman with slightly thick eyebrows suddenly screamed, “I don’t want to die! I don’t want to die!”
She shouted while rushing over, grabbing Bai Ruozhu’s arm, saying, “Can’t you save us? Quickly open the door, let us hide so no one sees us!”
Previously fleeing women also rushed over, “Are you saving us or harming us? Quickly let us out!”
Luckily, some were rational, persuading from the side, saying that if Bai Ruozhu hadn’t broken in, they would have continued suffering today.
Unfortunately, those losing their minds, terrified by death, couldn’t listen to reason at all.
With a ripping sound, Bai Ruozhu’s sleeve was torn, she squinted her eyes. She could sympathize with these women, but it didn’t mean she was a saint tolerating their ingratitude.
“Shut up!” she coldly shouted, instantly silencing everyone.
She didn’t want to waste words with them anymore, directly throwing the women who had torn her and made trouble back into the jail, then closed the jail door again.
“You need to calm down. Since you blame me for saving you, stay inside and don’t come out,” Bai Ruozhu said.
The other non-troublemaking women saw Bai Ruozhu easily handle one person, scaredly stepped back a few steps, and felt lucky they hadn’t joined the commotion.
Soon after, Bai Ruozhu walked towards the procuress, fiercely kicked the procuress in the chest, knocking her down onto the ground.
The embroidered shoe stepped on the procuress’s scratched and wounded face, twisted it hard, “Provoke discord? You’re quite skilled at that.”
Yang Laosan anxiously tried to grab Bai Ruozhu’s leg; Bai Ruozhu lifted her foot and kicked him away.
“Don’t hurt her, whatever you want, come at me,” Yang Laosan said, coughing as he climbed back up.
Bai Ruozhu couldn’t help but laugh sarcastically, “Didn’t realize you’re still crazy about her. But do you know that when I caught her, she was sleeping with a fat man.”
Yang Laosan’s face changed greatly and then shook his head frantically, saying, “She had no choice; for us to establish ourselves in this city, we can’t offend the county magistrate. She was also protecting our safety.”
Bai Ruozhu silently cursed again; the fat guy she knocked out was the county magistrate. Fortunately, Jianqi said to involve her second brother to mobilize people from the county government office; she stopped it. Otherwise, the county magistrate would have received the news and preemptively acted, sending people to eliminate all captured women, putting Lanlan at risk.
Now, her second brother comes patrolling and ends up finding a corrupt officer.
She ignored Yang Laosan, fed Zheng Chunrong a pill, then asked her how to open the secret chamber; Zheng Chunrong blankly said, “Can’t open it. If outside forcibly opened, the mechanical explosives would ignite, blowing this place to ashes.”
The captured women exclaimed in fear; Bai Ruozhu glared once, silencing them again. Witnessing Bai Ruozhu’s handling of Yang Laosan and Zheng Chunrong, they dared not provoke her.
At this moment, footsteps sounded from outside, followed by her second brother’s voice: “Open the secret chamber, or I’ll chop off your dog head!”
Apparently, her second brother contacted her aunt and realized she was trapped in the secret chamber.
Bai Ruozhu, somewhat excited, ran to the door and shouted, “Second brother, I’m inside, don’t act rashly!”
Unfortunately, outside, her second brother didn’t respond, angrily saying, “You don’t know? Then you don’t need to live anymore.”
Oh no, sounds can be heard from outside, but they couldn’t hear her voice.
The outside was chaotic; due to already unclear sounds, Bai Ruozhu couldn’t discern what was happening. Then she heard her second brother loudly say, “Dig for me; I don’t believe I can’t dig open a secret chamber!”
The shout was very loud, so it sounded particularly clear. Not far away, Zheng Chunrong sneered once, showing a waiting-for-death expression.
Don’t know which woman first screamed in terror; soon a chorus of screams erupted. Bai Ruozhu covered her ears; the dagger in her hand flew out, directly stabbing into the ground at their feet.
“All shut up!” she sternly shouted, but those people were terrified, unable to calm down.
