Chapter 43: Against the Odds.
" Normally I wouldn’t mind abandoning you two idiots in a situation like this but even I can’t bear to live you with those kind gentleman in the distance." Lin Mu said nonchalantly as he saddled himself atop Autumn Wind.
" I’m pretty sure the others aren’t willing to abandon you two as well... no matter how demented you may seem." Lin Mu added, his expression turning into pity in the latter part of his sentence.
" You bastard!!, you dare mock us?!, I dare yo–." Lang Shi was completely enraged as throbbing veins became evident on the sides of his head as he rushed towards Lin Mu with clenched fists but, before he could finish his sentence.
" Autumn Wind..." Lin Mu lightly patted Autumn Wind at the side. As if understanding his meaning, a strange gleam flashed across her eyes.
Swoosh!!!
Everyone suddenly heard a sharp gust of wind before a spine tingling sound was heard.
Paaa!
A swift, Crisp sound of a slap was heard as the charging Lang brother was forced flying to the side when Autumn Winds right front claw smacked him across the face!
"..."
Everyone turned speechless, in that moment they all seemed to have forgotten about the looming threat of the Jebaki, all eyes staring in silence at the Lang brother who was seemingly unconscious on the floor several meters away with a visible swollen red wound that threatened to cover more than half his face and an open mouth that let out a trail of saliva.
’ The heck just happened?!’
Lin Mu as well was speechless at the sight, unconsciously turning his gaze back to Autumn Wind, still reveling in shock. He had expected her to simply scare or intimidate the idiot, never in his wildest dreams did he think she would actually Send him flying with a sizzling smack to the cheek.
When he noticed that everyone’s eyes were now on him, Lin Mu awkwardly cleared his throat before asking Lang Shen who was still in shock." Still thinking of Resisting?"
"..." Lang Shen glanced at his sprawled brother before glancing at Lin Mu, when he saw a strange glint suddenly flash in Autumn Winds eyes again, his back was suddenly drenched in cold sweat. He unconsciously took a step back before shaking his head abruptly.
Seeing his exaggerated reaction, Lin Mu didn’t know whether to laugh or cry, he glanced at the others out of the corner of his eyes only to be stunned when he saw them quietly inching away from him and the Lang brothers and getting on their own mounts instead.
Lin Mu shock his head with a wry smile before grabbing ahold of Autumn Winds reigns and strutting slowly towards the front of the party.
" Your brother is in no position to ride at the moment so quickly get him on top of your mount." Lin Mu said to Lang Shen as he passed by him with Autumn Wind. The Lang brother didn’t say anything yet his eyes openly glared at Lin Mu from behind.
Lin Mu could obviously sense his gaze but he didn’t seem to care whether he hated him even more, now or not, instead he waited till Lang Shen had hurriedly saddled his brother atop his mount while tying his older brothers mount to his.
When Lin saw that he was finally ready.
" Everyone let’s Move out!" Lin Mu commanded, his voice loud and booming.
Several hours later.....
The pounding of scaled feet and hooves echoed across the desert as Lin Mu and the tribesmen raced toward the safety of the settlement while being closely hunted down by the unrelenting Jebaki
The purple moon glistened beautifully in the sky, casting vague shadows that stretched across the endless dunes. Sweat dripped down Lin Mu’s brow as he glanced over his shoulder. The Jebaki Clan was relentless, their dark scaled figures and short snouted mouths gave one the feeling of looking at a lizard like creature.
Their dark and murderous visage coupled with the deserts blood red colouring made Lin Mu who finally got to see them up close, frown with displeasure, the Serinerians on the other hand were all completely spooked, non daring to look back at all! instead all they could think of was escaping from this band of savage killers before their lives would come to an end.
"Everyone get ready! They’re preparing to fire another Volley of arrows!" one of the tribesmen at the rear, who had taken on the task of lookout suddenly yelled, his voice tinged with absolute fear.
All the Serinerians felt their scalp go numb at the moment, even Lin Mu’s mind couldn’t help but race. " Everyone stay focused! just keep looking ahead! don’t turn back, just keep riding forward!" Lin Mu said, he clenched his teeth in vexation and turned his head around, his eyes twitched when he saw the multiple gleaming arrow tips that reflected the moon’s radiance before his eyes.
’ Damnit!, just why are these b@stards so persistent!’ he thought inwardly.
The settlement was still too far away, and the Jebaki seemed to be becoming more and more faster as this chase continued, unlike the Serinerians Hawk scaled hounds, the Jebaki’s Savage Night scrawler beasts looked similar to beefed stallions built for practically endurance!
There was no way they would be able to shake them off! at most their Mount’s would soon run out of stamina, allowing those unrelenting monsters to catch up.
If they didn’t act soon, the hunters would eventually encircle them, and everyone, including him and the tribesmen, would be slaughtered.
’ I can’t just let this go on!’ Lin Mu thought, his expression darkening a bit.
"Someone give me a bow, a quiver and some arrows!" Lin Mu finally shouted, his voice loud and commanding.
The tribesmen exchanged uncertain glances the instant they heard his sudden outburst. "A bow?, At this distance?" one of them asked skeptically.
"Yes, a bow!" Lin Mu snapped, urgency lacing his words. "Do you have any better idea?"
" I don’t think we have any right to judge brother Lin right now! here you can have my bow and quiver, I only have about 15 arrows left though!" One of the tribesmen handed over his bow and a quiver of arrows. Lin Mu slung the quiver over his shoulder, gripping the bow tightly.
