CHAPTER 45: CHAPTER 45 SUDDEN BREAKTHROUGH
Chapter 45: Sudden Breakthrough.
What he didn’t know was that each breath he took was actually done using a small amount of the Nightshade breathing techniques active mode, only this time he wasn’t falling into his void state nor was he calling upon the systems help to do it, which was why she was surprised as well as the explanation of the sudden strange phenomenon he was undergoing.
Normally the Nightshade breathing technique was supposed to give him a cool, emotionless and calm feeling yet by only managing to use a bit of the technique, instead of completely assimilating most of the air within each breath he took, the cool chilling air going into his lungs was instead clashing with the already present warm air within his lungs causing both to heat with each clash and therefore emerge as steaming water vapor each time he breathed out.
Little by little, his racing heart dropped from a beating drum to a drop of water making contact with a lakes surface, each drop causing multiple tranquil ripples to spread out within his mind.
In that moment, Lin Mu began recollecting his multiple encounters with other’s in his past.
Growing up without an ability, he was forced into trying anything possible to increase his physical and mental aspects in order to at least cope in his cruel and wicked world.
Not surprising, Archery just happened to be one of them. Having trained for several hundreds of hours in total for archery alone, Lin Mu slowly calmed down as his eyes glanced calmly past the several Jebaki warriors still with their bows in hand as if trying to focus on a target.
At this point, Lin Mu’s eyes slowly turned melancholic as an old song came to his mind. He let out a steam filled sigh before opening his mouth.
"The wind snuffs out the dying candle, frost bites at my skin." While singing, the trail of steam continued to gush from the gaps in his teeth and also from his nostrils.
"Beneath my feet, thorns stretch endlessly toward the heavens" His eyes suddenly showed a sharp gleam as it focused on a Jebaki rider in the middle of the band.
"....!!!!!!"
The rider in question who was several tens of meters away from Lin Mu suddenly felt his scales stand on end, his blood turning icy cold while his pupils constricted into even smaller slits.
’ What was that feeling just now?...’ The Jebaki glanced left and right yet it still couldn’t see just where the thing that had sent a shiver down his spine was.
’ it doesn’t seem like it’s from the other’s.’ he thought while trying his best to maintain his position in the group.
"Bloodstains dot the yellow sands..."
Just when the Jebaki rider felt his heart begin to calm down, his pupils shrunk when he saw something gleaming off into the distance.
"At the edge of life and death, I stand alone...." The instant the words left his mouth, Lin Mu’s eyes suddenly gleamed like two pairs of blades as he pulled back his bow string and let his arrow soar!
’ No!’ several alarm bells rang within the Jebaki’s riders head as he rushed to duck his head but with the speed of the arrow, his movements were far slower in comparison.
The first arrow flew through the air with a faint whistle, striking the head of the Jebaki riders mount. The beast and its rider tumbled to the ground with a muffled cry.
«[Congratulations You’ve slain a 7th stage body refining realm beast, Night Crawler, and acquired a blood pill]»
«[Congratulations You’ve unlocked the system inventory]»
«[Due to the hosts current situation, The Blood pill has been automatically transferred to the system inventory]»
Lin Mu who was completely I’m the zone, didn’t pause to celebrate the kill nor the sudden System Notification since it didn’t matter because the pill had to be collected by converting the corpse of the kill which was obviously impossible at the moment.
Instead of dwelling on it, He quickly nocked another arrow and fired, taking down another mount.
The Serinerians ahead glanced back, their expressions a mix of awe and disbelief. "He’s actually hitting them..." one muttered.
Lin Mu continued his assault, each arrow carefully aimed to trip and kill the Jebaki mounts and the fallen mounts would momentarily stop those around them. While he managed to slow a few of their pursuers, it wasn’t enough to change the tide of the chase.
The Jebaki riders grew enraged from his antics, their shouts echoing across the desert as they realized what Lin Mu was doing.
"Faster!" Lin Mu suddenly felt a huge sense of crisis and snapped out of his melancholy, He turned around and barked at the tribesmen ahead. "Don’t look back, just ride!"
Like he had predicted, The Jebaki responded with a volley of their own arrows.
Lin Mu twisted and turned in his saddle, narrowly avoiding the arrow that whisked past his head. Autumn Wind had her tough scales to protect her so she wasn’t harmed.
Sadly, 3 Serinerians were killed instantly while some suffered severe injuries from the volley of arrows. Meanwhile, Lin Mu’s skilled reflexes saved him from several hits, but he wasn’t invincible.
One arrow eventually grazed his left arm, leaving a shallow cut, While another embedded itself into his side, just above his hip.
Lin Mu gritted his teeth against the pain, refusing to slow down. He broke off the arrows’ shafts and tossed them aside, blood staining his jumpsuit. Despite the injury, he turned around and continued firing, his eyes burning like an unrelenting flame.
"Brother Lin, You... " one of the tribesmen said.
"Keep moving!" Lin Mu yelled back. "I’m fine!"
The Jebaki Clan’s rage only intensified at the sight of the still fleeing Serinerians. Moreover, the more Lin Mu persisted, the greater the distance between them grew.
Their leader, a hulking figure clad in dark, snake scaled leather armor, raised his hand, signaling his men to spread out. Lin Mu’s sharp eye
s caught the movement, and his heart sank. They were adapting, trying to flank the group.
