CHAPTER 314: CHAPTER 314: THE SCAPEGOAT 4

"Chloe?"

Lucas hadn’t finished speaking when Isabella Gray turned to look at him, her voice tinged with doubt, "What does this have to do with Chloe? Are you saying it was Chloe who introduced the two of you?"

"No, it wasn’t." Lucas shook his head, "It was because Chloe’s phone was dead that she used Lily’s number to contact me, that’s how I came to know her."

"Then what did you mean earlier?" Isabella asked.

Lucas sighed, "What I meant was, even when Chloe used her number to contact me back then, I never thought about having any deep connection with her. At that time, it seemed like Chloe had some sort of secret, she was always somewhat unhappy, so I wanted to ask her sister about it.

After all, Lily and Chloe were very close then, so I found out why Chloe was unhappy. Who would’ve thought, later on..."

We ended up talking, and we got along really well, even some things Lily said struck a chord within me.

Eventually, it developed into this kind of relationship.

"Sometimes you men think too simply." Isabella rolled her eyes at Lucas.

A mother knows her son best, and Isabella could figure out some things about Lucas just by thinking a little.

Of course...

This only applied to Lucas.

As for Matthew Morgan, Isabella couldn’t quite guess what was on his mind.

Not even someone like Mr. Morgan could necessarily see through Matthew.

"Are you having issues with her?" Isabella didn’t plan to drag this on with Lucas and got straight to the point.

Come to think of it, even during those major challenges in starting a business, Lucas didn’t frown, so what could be bothering him now?

It must be about his relationship.

Mentioning Lily Grant, Lucas’s expression grew solemn.

He let out a deep sigh, "Tell me, as a man, shouldn’t I let go of someone’s past?

Who doesn’t have a past?"

"But everyone has to take responsibility for their past." Isabella replied.

Lucas was a bit surprised by her answer.

Isabella met his gaze, "But a person’s past, that’s theirs alone. Even if they’ve made grave mistakes, that’s their past. You appear in her present, and you’re meant to be part of her future. That past without you in it, if she minds it, that’s her own business, if she can’t get over it, that’s her problem, not yours."

"If you can’t accept that she has a past, then simply leave. But you absolutely cannot leave using the excuse of criticizing her, understand?"

Lucas shook his head, "I don’t understand."

Isabella: ...

"What I mean is, either leave or fully accept it. Don’t linger here like this, your behavior is just hurting the other person."

Although she doesn’t like Lily Grant, Isabella doesn’t want to be overly biased against her.

Lucas remained silent.

Because even he doesn’t know whether he should let go or accept it.

Should he let go?

It seems there’s still a child involved, leaving him feeling guilty.

Especially considering a girl being with him, even pregnant for him, and yet he chooses to abandon her; it’s truly an irresponsible thing to do.

But...

Fully accept it?

Lucas knows very well that reaching this point with Lily, it’s very difficult to mend the relationship... or perhaps, deep down, he doesn’t really want to be together.

"You always told me and big brother that no matter what, we shouldn’t be irresponsible men. It seems... I’ve really become one."

Lucas leaned back, forcing a bitter smile.

Isabella patted his hand, "No matter what decision you make, once you’ve decided, do it well and minimize the harm to the other person."
