CHAPTER 444: CHAPTER 444: CHLOE’S AWKWARD CHAT WITH UNCLE MORGAN 4
"I’m telling you, the person you’re talking about right now is me. Think about it, if someone like Lily Grant were in your place, she’d directly nod her head..."
Jodie Cooper mimicked Lily Grant’s tone, "Sure, I’ll help you."
Then, with a cold and indifferent look, she glanced at Chloe Grant, "And then, before you know it, she’d have them wrapped around her finger."
Examples like this are practically endless.
"Guard against fire, theft, and your bestie" — it’s not just a joke.
"I know..." Chloe Grant looked down.
Lily Grant had done similar things before.
"Alright, take it slow." Jodie Cooper didn’t want to discourage Chloe Grant too much.
She looked up, just in time to see through the floor-to-ceiling window that Matthew Morgan had just hung up the phone, and he didn’t seem like he was about to come in; instead, he stood there smoking a cigarette.
"You could go out now and casually remind him, ’Uncle Morgan, you have migraines, it’d be best if you smoked a bit less,’" Jodie Cooper suggested in Chloe Grant’s ear, "This way, he’ll know you’re thinking about his health and that you care."
Chloe Grant licked her lips; this was another challenge!
"Go on!" Jodie Cooper gave Chloe Grant a pat on the shoulder.
This time, Chloe Grant didn’t dawdle and stood up, walking outside.
Halfway there, she turned around and looked at Jodie Cooper.
Jodie Cooper gave her an encouraging look.
Chloe Grant smiled, turned back, and continued towards the door.
By the time she got to Matthew Morgan’s side, he had naturally stubbed out the half-smoked cigarette.
"What’s up?" he asked.
"Uncle Morgan..." Chloe started, then sighed deeply, "Were you just smoking?"
After she asked, Chloe Grant wanted to smack herself on the forehead.
She’d already seen the cigarette butt on the ground, so why ask!
"Yeah," Matthew Morgan replied simply.
"You should smoke less, it’s not good for your migraines," Chloe Grant said directly, as Jodie Cooper had taught her.
But after she said it...
She realized how awkward it felt!
"Haha..." Chloe Grant chuckled awkwardly.
Matthew Morgan looked at her, his brow furrowed slightly, then said, "I told you, if you have something troubling you, just say it, don’t be so hesitant."
"I don’t have anything troubling me!"
It seemed she was frustrated about being awkward in conversation again and was also frustrated, wondering why Matthew Morgan always seemed to think she only came to him when she needed something?
It seemed that indeed...
She only came to him when she had something on her mind.
"I’m fine!" Chloe Grant said a bit defiantly.
Finally, she felt she couldn’t continue the conversation, so she turned and slinked back into the villa.
...
Later, at the Morgan family’s old house, there was much chatter during the meal, laughter among the children, a cheerful atmosphere.
But Chloe Grant and Matthew Morgan didn’t talk much...
Mostly because Chloe Grant had given up trying to make small talk.
When she got home in the evening, Benjamin Grant was sitting there, eating ice cream.
His hair seemed quite full, and his bangs were styled into a little tuft that wobbled as he moved.
"Did you have dinner?" Chloe Grant asked proactively.
After all, he was a guest in her home, and she had been out all day without checking on him, which made her feel quite guilty.
"I already ate," Benjamin Grant replied, sitting on the sofa watching a game live stream.
"Don’t worry about him. He definitely eats better than you," Jodie Cooper draped an arm over Chloe Grant’s shoulder, almost hanging half of herself onto Chloe Grant.
"Come on, let’s head upstairs."
"But..."
Chloe Grant looked at Benjamin Grant, a bit hesitant... Is it really okay to just ignore a guest like this?
