Addicted After Marriage: Marrying My Abstinent Boss
Chapter 121: She Is a Stickler for Details
CHAPTER 121: CHAPTER 121: SHE IS A STICKLER FOR DETAILS
"What happened?" Sophia Lowell stopped, eager to know.
At this moment, two fierce-looking bodyguards appeared at the door, blocking it to prevent anyone from entering or leaving.
Clearly, they weren’t with Zane Sterling.
"Miss Lowell, stop pretending to be innocent here! Beau Morgan’s injured leg has nothing to do with you. Even if Zane saved Beau and carried him out, that’s just what a normal man would do! If you mind, you could have said so! No need to go to the extreme of blowing up the entire villa! Is that what you wanted?" Drake Morgan spat out his words in anger.
Even bits of spit flew out, unable to contain the fury in his heart.
"The villa exploded?" Sophia looked at Zane and then at Beau.
No wonder Zane had been stopping her from seeing Beau earlier. Not coming here almost made her the alleged perpetrator.
But Beau’s gaze remained on Zane, watching him protect her.
Zane glanced at the scattered bouquet on the floor, placing his large hand protectively on Sophia’s shoulder.
"When we were heading to the hospital, there was a gas explosion at the villa. Initial findings suggest it was due to a stove left on in the kitchen. The police are still investigating, but it has nothing to do with you, so don’t worry too much." He comforted her in a low voice.
Sophia was momentarily stunned, looking at the Morgan Family’s stance; they probably believed she was the mastermind behind it!
She chuckled lightly, realizing that Faye Ellison’s comment about Beau not being a good person was quite reserved.
It’s quite the fireworks display during the holiday.
"Uncle Morgan, do you think I’m responsible for this?" Sophia gave a wry smile, "Having been a teacher all your life, you’re not putting your wits to much use in this case."
"I’ll handle this matter, you don’t need to worry about it." Zane’s grip on her shoulder tightened a bit, indicating that he didn’t want her to waste her breath.
"Handle what? There’s nothing to handle, why should we?" Sophia glanced at him.
Beside them, Lynn Boyle couldn’t help but stand up from the bed, exuding an enormous aura.
She said, "Miss Lowell, because of your marriage to Zane, we’re not having the police take you away. If you admit your mistake today, we won’t pursue the matter further."
Sophia squinted her eyes and asked, "Admit my mistake? Why should I admit any mistake? What evidence do you have to prove it was me?"
Lynn sneered, "Indeed, coming from the common folk is this uncultured."
She wanted to hurl insults, but given the close ties between The Sterling Family and theirs, she didn’t want to ruin the holiday spirit by tearing into each other. She held back!
But Zane’s face darkened, and his fists clenched naturally.
His deep-set eyes became somber, the expression on his face darkening.
"The police haven’t issued any notice yet, and even if fingerprints were found on the scene, it doesn’t mean anything. There’s no need to be so aggressive!" He raised his hand and checked the time.
"Some people say, there was no cooking at home, but the police found her fingerprints on the gas stove. You saw her return to the kitchen before leaving, if not her, who else? It’s only a matter of time before it’s confirmed!" Drake accused.
Zane indeed saw Sophia return to the kitchen. Rushing off, he didn’t notice if the stove was on or off, nor did he see what she was doing with the stove.
Sophia parted her lips slightly, glaring intensely at the pretentious woman on the hospital bed, whose eyes welled with tears without uttering a word, as if feigning illness.
"Really? Are you sure it wasn’t on?" Sophia continued to tolerate.
Beau swallowed nervously but showed no unusual expression.
Beau clearly had left the stove on, and it was Sophia who turned it off, yet now it was being used to frame her.
"There’s the police to handle the guilty, perhaps Professor Morgan is trying to manage too much?" It was Faye Ellison speaking from the door.
He leaned against the door frame, rotating his wrist, while the two bodyguards at the door had already fallen to the side, groaning.
Zane furrowed his brow even more deeply.
Why is it this man again?
Drake hastily approached as he recognized Faye at the door, "Mr. Ellison!"
Beside him, Lynn’s mouth curled into a slight grin, revealing white teeth, while Beau on the bed sat up straighter, looking a little more lively.
Faye avoided Drake’s handshake and walked over to Zane and Sophia.
"Once you finish the discharge procedures, go home and rest. Running around has wasted quite a lot of my time looking for you." This was directed at Sophia, full of concern in his tone.
"There’s no need for Mr. Ellison to concern himself with my wife’s affairs." Zane’s gaze was icy, while Faye’s was clear.
Sophia sighed, "Faye, why are you here?"
Are we all gathered here today?
With Faye’s arrival, misunderstandings might arise again, and calming this man could be challenging.
"Officer Lockwood just called me; you might need to head back to the precinct. I thought you might be around since you’re newly discharged, so I came up, and I did find you." He smiled slightly, turning his gaze to the woman in front of him without avoiding her.
He tilted his head, looking at Beau on the bed, pursing his lips and furrowing his brows.
He said, "Miss Morgan, you’re a sensible person. There are many possibilities for the gas explosion at the villa. The police won’t overlook any detail. You’re holding someone accountable now, is it because you’re afraid of something else and want to wrap this up before she finds out?"
Sitting on the bed, Beau was startled but quickly calmed down, "Ellison, that’s not the case, you’re overthinking. We just wanted to ask Miss Lowell, nothing more."
Some of her small actions caught Zane’s attention, confirming even more that this typically gentle woman could also play these little tricks.
And Sophia, who, too, never lets herself be at a loss, ensured every wound inflicted upon her resulted in severe consequences for Henry Quinn, Sienna Lawson, Nancy Sawyer, and anyone who hurt her.
If she wanted to take action against Beau, it wouldn’t be impossible.
However, she wasn’t foolish; she wouldn’t soil her hands.
"Mr. Sterling, Officer Wood is already waiting at the precinct." Faye’s gaze shifted from Beau to Zane.
Zane clenched his jaw silently, took Sophia’s hand, and walked out.
Sophia turned her head to thank Faye as she walked.
Zane’s grip on her hand tightened, and his steps quickened, almost making her jog to keep up.
As the two left, the hospital room quieted down.
The Morgan Family wasn’t aware of the close relationship between Faye Ellison and Sophia, so close that he personally came to her rescue, making Drake feel somewhat nervous.
"Professor Morgan, with the advancements in technology, one cannot remain stagnant in the past forever. It’s best to evolve when there’s time." Faye spoke with hands in pockets, glancing at Beau.
Seeing Zane take Sophia away left Drake with some resentment, but Faye’s words, which were partial to Sophia and disparaging to him, made him even more angry. Yet, he couldn’t show it and could only nod meekly, continuously agreeing.
