CHAPTER 78: CHAPTER 78: AFRAID OF DIVORCE

Sophia Lowell lay feebly on the bed, gazing at the wedding on the lawn not far away.

The glass was anti-peep, so even with the curtains open, no one would know what was happening inside.

Just like earlier, when she lay against the floor-to-ceiling window, she indeed felt very ashamed.

It felt as if countless eyes were staring at her.

"Reluctant to part?" Zane Sterling walked out of the bathroom wearing a loose bathrobe, leaned contentedly against the sofa, and followed her gaze.

"The mountain bird and fish have different paths, from now on, the mountains and waters won’t meet."

"Being with me, is it to forget him?"

"Zane, from the heart." Sophia replied, and he chuckled.

She didn’t know why he would ask that question.

Initially, it was because she feared having a baby, that being a single mom would be tough, for both her and the child.

Besides, he seemed pretty good.

Good in every aspect—

But she just lied.

When he asked if she liked him even a bit, she lied.

She liked him somewhat, just not that much yet.

After resting in the room for a while, evening came, and hunger woke her up.

Zane led her to the lawn near the lakeside.

There, romantic tables and chairs were already set up.

"You said you’d take me on a business trip, now it seems like you’re taking me along." Sophia felt a bit embarrassed.

Zane naturally held her hand, and she wasn’t quite used to it.

Together, they might be more familiar in bed.

"No difference." He said.

"But the expenses are really high here."

He chuckled without saying anything.

Instead, he led her under two redwood trees by the lake and sat down.

This spot should be the best in the entire place, right?

Everywhere else was just on barren grass.

Still considered elegant.

On the table were warm ambiance lights and a bouquet of tulips.

Sophia reached out, touched the petals, and glanced around. The other tables also had tulips. "The boss here is quite romantic."

"Hmm, maybe."

Soon, the waiter began serving their food.

Ribeye steaks, garlic shrimp, smoked ham with fish fillets...

Sophia didn’t know how much he ordered, judging by the dishes alone, it didn’t look cheap. "The steak isn’t as good as yours."

She cut a small piece and took it into her mouth.

He smiled but said nothing.

Looking at this reserved man, she couldn’t help but ask, "I turned off your phone, and you haven’t turned it back on? Aren’t you afraid someone might need to find you?"

"It’s rare to be at ease, it’s quite nice. Besides, I’m afraid of my wife."

Afraid of his wife?

Sophia burst into laughter. "Does that mean you’ll listen to everything I say?"

"As long as we don’t divorce, I’ll listen to you."

Could this man actually fear divorce?

With his good conditions, you’d have to be crazy to divorce him, right?

"What if you cheat?" She joked.

"I’ll draft a contract tomorrow. If I cheat, I’ll leave with nothing."

She paused for several seconds, then took a sip of red wine slowly.

He didn’t seem like he was joking.

"I don’t want you to leave, if you dare to cheat, I’ll have you stripped myself." Sophia made a scissor gesture.

Zane laughed out loud.

He was growing more fond of her little temper.

No work, no one else around, they talked for a long time.

The plates on the table were taken away, replaced with snacks and desserts, paired with red wine.

The night life on the lawn was beginning to stir.

Sophia drank until she was a bit tipsy, resting her chin and watching the woman playing the violin not far away.

She suddenly felt life was so pleasant.

With a man by her side, a satisfying job, a satisfying family, everything felt wonderful.

"Ran into an old friend, I’m going over to say hi, don’t run off." Zane saw a foreign man not far away.

Sophia nodded, just feeling a scorching soft touch on her forehead.

Only then did he leave.

She didn’t know how much time passed before a strange scent intruded beside her.

Turning her head to look, Nancy Sawyer was already sitting in Zane’s spot.

She was stunned.

Nancy placed the wine glass in her hand down.

"Is he the one you like?"

"Hmm."

There seemed to be no formalities between them.

"How is your mom?"

"Mr. Sawyer, do you know my mother?"

When Sophia said this, she didn’t know what her intentions were.

Was it blame, or inquiry.

Maybe both.

Nancy didn’t feel awkward, took a sip of wine, "I’m happy to see you."

"How happy?" Sophia had drunk a bit, her emotions slightly affected.

That night she had convinced herself to never look for him again, but unexpectedly he came to find her.

Autumn Lowell didn’t tell her about Nancy, surely there was a reason, she didn’t want Autumn to be troubled.

She was still blaming him for not seeking them out all these years.

Her heart wanted to know the answer.

But then didn’t want to know, afraid that knowing would make her sadder.

So it’s enough to have met, to have acknowledged, no need to break any more.

Nancy wanted to say something, Sophia broke the awkwardness.

"Mr. Sawyer, we’re not very familiar with each other."

"I miss you all, it’s my fault, seeing your good relationship with Tim Sawyer, I’m also very pleased." Nancy said what she wanted.

"Mr. Sawyer, both of our lives are quite good, I think Tim doesn’t necessarily want to know about this, if Zane calls you Dad later, she might be upset."

"Sorry."

Nancy smiled, picked up the wine glass, and stood up.

Her eviction was very tactful.

Sophia nodded and smiled back at him.

He left.

Nancy knew she couldn’t accept it just yet, so before she got angry, he ended the topic.

Next time they meet, it might be more relaxed.

He was happy in his heart, having found the person he had looked for years.

She watched his departing figure, heavy with thoughts.

Unexpectedly, he went over to Zane and that foreign man.

The three were chatting happily.

Of course, Tim was Zane’s ex-girlfriend, surely he’d know her dad well...

Sigh—

Thinking carefully, she was his current wife after all.

Did Zane choose a woman specifically to have this father-in-law?

She sighed, hoping there’d be no more contact, if this relationship burst open, how would they get along in future?

"Sophia."

"Hmm?"

Clay Gable—

Why is this guy everywhere?

"Would it be convenient for a chat?" He acted gentlemanly, glanced at Zane’s seat.

Sophia disdainfully glanced at him. "Not convenient."

Not convenient, yet he sat down.

"You’re quite clever, using my knife to kill and keeping yourself clean." He curled his lips, showing a teasing smile, seemingly in admiration.

"That wouldn’t happen without your capability, wouldn’t have worked so well."

"No wonder so many men are circling around you, indeed likable."

"Don’t, don’t like me, you’ve seen Henry Quinn’s fate today, I’m not a good person." Sophia mumbled, "I paid for the car repair, you spread the information, I didn’t ask you for it, nor did I threaten you. Besides, if you want to take advantage, aren’t you a bit late now, cucumber has hit the ground, isn’t it too late now?"

Clay looked at her chatty little mouth and couldn’t help but grow fond of her. "I heard you’re Zane’s mistress? How much does he pay you?"

"What, is it that you like to snatch from others?" Sophia was annoyed, this ’mistress’ label seemed to have grown legs, running everywhere.

"Not snatching, just asking."

"Asked, now you can leave." She took a sip of wine, annoyed.

"How much are you short of? I can give you, don’t engage in such affairs."

"What affairs? Mistress? What are you implying?"

"You’re a good girl, you shouldn’t fall because of a scoundrel like Henry Quinn. After all, this is the mess Sienna Lawson stirred up. If you’re really short on money, I can give you, comfortably work a job, don’t degrade yourself."

Sophia was stunned, she thought Clay was also here to persuade her to be his secret lover, unexpectedly that’s what he meant.

Indeed surprising.

"Persuade me to leave him so I can be your secret lover?"

"I’m not interested in such covert affairs. If you want to find someone dependable, you can choose to marry me, I won’t treat you badly." He said.
