CHAPTER 62: CHAPTER 62: FOR ANITAQING AND HE’S JADE + UPDATE 1

Ever since Zhao Meimei got her bangs, her whole vibe changed. On one hand, it’s because she’s about to graduate from sixth grade and move to middle school, so she’s busy studying. On the other hand, she’s started developing, and it hurts her chest when she runs and jumps too much.

Wild child Zhao Meimei slowly started blending into the girls’ group in the class. She no longer runs around the playground during breaks, but instead goes back to her seat after visiting the restroom and chats with classmates around her. Every time this happens, Xu Xu would drag his chair over to sit next to her, turning the two-person desk into a three-person desk.

The once lively Zhao Meimei suddenly became calm and lady-like, and soon, male classmates began to cast their glances in her direction.

Zhao Meimei was different from other girls; she had a unique charm that no one else possessed.

Zhao Meimei wasn’t like other girls, who were so coquettish that it gave people goosebumps. One wrong word, and they’d sulk immediately, their eyes reddening, flipping faces like flipping pages in a book, making it impossible to figure them out.

Zhao Meimei was straightforward, calling a spade a spade. She could take a joke and didn’t get angry easily.

The boys in the class originally liked hanging out with her, and now seeing her slowly turning into a real young lady and looking prettier by the day, some naive boys just stepping foot into the realm of emotions began secretly developing feelings for her.

Xu Xu was the first to keenly notice this happening. He started sticking around Zhao Meimei more and more, wishing he could just turn himself into a sticker and stick onto Zhao Meimei’s desk, claiming his territory.

After the Chinese class ended, Xu Xu, being the class monitor, was called to the teacher’s office to fetch the homework graded the day before. He had barely left when someone immediately took the chance to approach Zhao Meimei, calling out to her: "Zhao Meimei."

Zhao Meimei was busy erasing the mistakes on the back of her textbook when she heard the voice. She looked up to see the class’s sports committee member standing by her desk.

Zhao Meimei stared at him, a bit dazed.

She was on good terms with most classmates. However, the sports committee member was tall and usually sat in the last row, so they weren’t very close.

Zhao Meimei curiously asked the sports committee member, "What’s up?"

His dark face unexpectedly showed two patches of red as he swiftly passed a notebook to Zhao Meimei, stammering, "Can you help me write in the classmate notebook?"

Zhao Meimei came to a realization, reached out to take it, and laughed, "Sure thing!"

Seeing her agree, the sports committee member grinned and quickly turned to the specified page, saying, "Just write here."

Zhao Meimei glanced and saw a blank page with cartoon figures of a boy and a girl holding hands, surrounded by pale pink hearts.

Zhao Meimei nodded in agreement: "Alright, but I need to correct my mistakes now. I’ll write it for you when I have time."

The sports committee member gave her a deep look: "Okay."

After he left, Zhao Meimei casually stuffed the classmate notebook into her desk.

Her desk mate, being nosy, took it out and turned to the page the sports committee member had shown, giving Zhao Meimei a mischievous look.

Zhao Meimei frowned at him, snatched the notebook back, and asked, "What do you want to say?"

Her desk mate chuckled twice, wiggling his fingers up and down in front of Zhao Meimei, teasing, "Did you catch on?"

Zhao Meimei looked at him, puzzled: "Catch on to what?"

Her desk mate confidently concluded, "The sports committee member has a crush on you."

Zhao Meimei was about to refute when Xu Xu’s rough voice interrupted, "What did you just say?"

Xu Xu was holding a thick pile of homework, ready to distribute them. He placed Zhao Meimei’s homework on top, wanting to give it to her first. Just as he came over, he heard Zhao Meimei’s desk mate saying the sports committee member liked Zhao Meimei.

Xu Xu’s mind buzzed, and his eyes seemed out of focus.

Not thinking much of it, Zhao Meimei’s desk mate chuckled and, elbowing Zhao Meimei, said: "I said the sports committee member has a crush on you. Don’t believe it? Take a look!"

Zhao Meimei’s desk mate quickly pulled the classmate notebook from Zhao Meimei’s desk. Zhao Meimei tried to stop him but couldn’t. Her desk mate opened to the page and showed them: "Look, what’s this written here? Read it yourself."

There was writing on it? Zhao Meimei had only seen pale pink hearts earlier. But now, at her desk mate’s pointing, there was indeed a line of small text: "Beautiful girl, I like you."

Zhao Meimei’s eyes widened in surprise, feeling a bit hot around her ears, her heart racing.

"Still don’t believe it?" Zhao Meimei’s desk mate smacked his lips: "Actually, I noticed a while ago. The sports committee member often sneaks glances at you in class. Whenever I turn around, I always catch him."

Zhao Meimei, feeling tense from her desk mate’s words, didn’t dare look back to check if the sports committee member was really sneaking glances at her.

"No way... Absolutely not." Xu Xu’s voice was a bit unnatural.

Zhao Meimei’s desk mate got anxious hearing Xu Xu’s doubt, quickly argued: "How is it not true! He really often looks at my desk mate during class. Even during PE, whenever we’re playing games, doesn’t he always call my desk mate to join?"

"..." Xu Xu bit his lip, having nothing to say.

The sports committee member indeed particularly looked out for Zhao Meimei during PE class. Anything she wanted to play or was interested in, he’d make sure she got to join, others didn’t even get a chance.

Xu Xu glanced at the sports committee member’s seat and saw him using a textbook to cover his face, peeking at them from behind.

Why the sports committee member did this was crystal clear. Xu Xu understood it better than anyone because he did the same, and even more so than the sports committee member.

Xu Xu pouted his lips, blinked his pretty big eyes twice, not crying as he hadn’t cried since fifth grade.

Xu Xu pursed his lips, gazing at Zhao Meimei with big, watery eyes, pitifully asking, "Meimei, do you like him too?"

Zhao Meimei looked at Xu Xu’s threatening "say you like him, and I’ll die for it" expression, dazed, feeling a mix of emotions, both sweet and anxious.

Zhao Meimei’s desk mate, lacking perception, joined in Xu Xu’s questioning, "Desk mate, be honest, do you like the sports committee member?"

Thinking about the sports committee member’s face, Zhao Meimei felt unfamiliar. Whether she liked him or not, she probably didn’t. Liking someone shouldn’t feel like this.

Her mind a jumble, Zhao Meimei’s eyes wandered around, accidentally landing on the boy star sticker on her desk. Seeing that face resembling Brother Yangyang’s face, her gaze suddenly settled.

She felt her heart suddenly pound twice violently, even more than when she found out about the sports committee member’s crush on her. She instinctively bit her lip, feeling like if she didn’t, her heart would leap out of her throat.

Like him? Like who? Who did she like?

Zhao Meimei saw clearly in her mind Brother Yangyang’s unbelievably handsome face. Suddenly, she heard a crisp sound inside her: some barrier breaking, like something was bursting out rapidly. That feeling made her feel both delighted and shy.

Zhao Meimei always knew who she liked best: Brother Yangyang. But just today, at this moment, she felt something different.

What was this feeling? She couldn’t say, but she suddenly missed Brother Yangyang so much, wanted to see him, wanted to run into his arms, and wanted to kiss him hard on his cheek.
