CHAPTER 399: CHAPTER 399: AS IF SEEING ANOTHER SELF

Serena Everett’s kick sent Morgan Siegel flying three meters away, causing so much pain that he couldn’t even crawl up from the ground.

Seeing Serena’s ferocity, the doctors who wanted to stop her immediately gasped and silently retreated a few steps. For a moment, no one dared to step forward to disturb Serena.

Finally, it was quiet.

Serena focused entirely on administering acupuncture to the little girl, and the room became unbearably silent.

Enduring the pain, Morgan struggled up from the ground, full of resentment. Just then, Prime Minister Lockwood hurriedly arrived, and Morgan immediately started complaining.

"Prime Minister, you’re here just in time. This wild girl somehow broke in, and we couldn’t stop her! Evelyn’s heartbeat is nearly faint; no one can save her! Not to mention such a young girl like her?!"

"Shut up and let her try!"

Prime Minister Lockwood interrupted harshly, staring intently at Serena administering acupuncture to Evelyn, his heart hanging in suspense.

At this point, he could only treat the dead horse like a living one, placing all his hopes on this young girl!

He hoped she wouldn’t disappoint him...

Time passed by the second, and Serena’s acupuncture movements grew faster, to the point of becoming hard to discern.

Everyone in the room stared intently at Serena, until they saw the nearby ECG showing Evelyn’s heartbeat plummeting straight down, becoming increasingly faint until it stopped entirely.

The room fell deathly silent, and Morgan immediately leapt forward, exclaiming, "Prime Minister, I said we couldn’t trust an unknown wild girl like her. How could Silver Needles possibly save someone? Now look, she not only failed to save Miss Evelyn, but also prevented Miss Evelyn from seeing you one last time!"

Prime Minister Lockwood painfully closed his eyes, heart crushed, overcome with sorrow.

Morgan sneered coldly, still resenting Serena’s earlier kick, immediately pointing at her, "What are you waiting for? Arrest that wild girl!"

"Arrest me?" Serena remained in a casual stance, her crimson, glossy lips curving into a mocking smile, "Are you even worthy?"

Morgan’s face turned livid from her arrogant tone, "Still flaunting arrogance at death’s door, hurry up and arrest her!"

The Hidden Guards coldly charged toward Serena, but just then, the ECG suddenly emitted a "beep beep beep" sound; the girl’s heart rate gradually recovered, escaping mortal danger.

"How could this happen?!"

The doctors present looked at the scene incredulously; though Evelyn clearly had no heartbeat earlier, somehow she revived, escaping death!

My God, this is simply a miracle!

"Evelyn..."

Seeing the girl’s heart reviving, Prime Minister Lockwood burst into tears of joy, a rare sight of loss of composure for a nation’s leader.

"How...how did you manage to do it?!"

Morgan changed his previously arrogant demeanor, staring at Serena in utter disbelief.

Serena raised her hand to wipe the sweat from her forehead; the acupuncture technique consumed her energy, lazily speaking, "Want to know?"

"Of course!" Morgan nodded vigorously, full of urgency.

Serena’s stunningly beautiful fox-like eyes flickered mischievously, casually saying, "I’m not telling you."

"You..."

Morgan was instantly infuriated yet powerless against Serena.

"Everyone leave, I have something to say to this young lady alone!"

Prime Minister Lockwood finally returned to his senses from overwhelming joy and sternly ordered them all out.

Despite his reluctance, Morgan couldn’t defy Prime Minister Lockwood’s orders, following the others out of the room.

Once everyone left, Prime Minister Lockwood solemnly bowed to Serena, filled with regret in his tone, "Sorry, Miss Phantom Hand, for my earlier offenses. I was too worried about my daughter. I hope you can forgive me this time."

Prime Minister Lockwood’s apology was truly sincere, and considering his paternal concern, Serena held no grudge against him.

"Miss Phantom Hand, you are exactly as rumored, bringing the dead back to life. You are my daughter’s savior and mine as well. If there’s anything I can do for you, please don’t hesitate to ask!"

Serena quite appreciated this promise, casually replying, "Don’t worry, if I need your help, I’ll let you know!"

Prime Minister Lockwood nodded repeatedly, "Of course, of course! Miss Phantom Hand, you saved my daughter; I’d do anything for you!"

"Don’t rejoice too soon." As soon as these words fell, Serena’s delicately porcelain-like face turned serious, "I only temporarily revived your daughter. If her illness isn’t found, she could relapse and lose her life at any time."

At these words, Prime Minister Lockwood’s eyes instantly dulled, "I know, but you saved my daughter this time, and I’m really grateful to you!"

"First tell me how she contracted this illness."

Serena glanced at the unconscious girl on the bed, her beautiful eyes slightly squinting.

While administering acupuncture earlier, she took her pulse, finding her condition indeed strange, something she hadn’t encountered before...

Prime Minister Lockwood sighed heavily, "She had this condition since I brought her back, but I don’t know how she got sick!"

"Aren’t you her father? How can you not even know this?" Serena’s sharp gaze fell on him.

Prime Minister Lockwood sighed sorrowfully, "Miss Phantom Hand, you might not know, Evelyn went missing outside when she was three. I tried everything to find her, but received no word. For years, I never stopped searching until two years ago, when I found her in the slums."

"The couple who found her were crematorium workers. They found Evelyn in a mass grave site, where she still had a breath left, so they brought her back to the slums out of mercy."

"When they brought Evelyn back to the slums, her anomalies became apparent, long unconscious spells, and upon waking, immense pain and suffering. Her condition only worsened after I brought her from the slums to The Prime Minister’s Residence. I searched the world for renowned doctors, but none could cure Evelyn!"

Listening to Prime Minister Lockwood recount all this with a pained expression, unconsciously, Serena’s gaze fell on the frail little girl on the bed.

Their fates were so similar; she too was stolen away as a child, separated from her family. Serena seemed to see another version of herself...
