CHAPTER 70: ELECTRIFYING ENCOUNTERS

Once the Sprites had been dealt with the duo waisted no time and proceeded to continue onwards. All around them other beasts were engaged in either their own battles or simply running right through any opposition, be that with brute strength or simply through speed.

They did spot one anomaly though. It was a pack of wolves led by a ferocious alpha, they all had lightning dancing across their coats and instead of defending the domain as all other lightning affinity beasts seemed to be doing they were instead dashing straight through in the same direction as Violet and Luna. Violet did think she recognised that large wolf but put it out of her mind as they were just now approaching the proverbial front lines of the conflict.

Ahead of them beasts were aplenty, with hundreds of them stretching out to each side. Most were either engaged in battle with a foe or after defeating their opponent would advance in their respective direction till they encountered a new foe to challenge. With the electrical beasts moving out and everything else heading in.

"Do we help out other beasts or just challenge anything that gets in our way?" Luna asked as they observed the charred battlefield.

Violet thought on that, whilst it might make sense to subtly help out the beasts that were nominally on their side in reality they were on their own in the grand scheme of things. Even if they helped some it could come to bite them in the butt later on if they all made it to the end and had to then fight over limited fruits.

But on the other hand, they still had a number of different domains to travel through and if the first two were any indication it would be a constant battle just to make it through. So wouldn’t it make sense to ensure they had some backup to survive the upcoming fights? Even if that support was tenuous at best.

Coming to a decision she spoke up. "If we see a situation that we can easily help in then yeah we can help, but let’s not get ourselves embroiled in any tough fights. We will already have plenty of them going forward." Sensing Luna’s agreement at that the two dashed towards their next foe.

This time it was only a singular opponent that blocked their path and looked like a larger and better formed version of the sprites that they had just defeated. It fought similarly to, with its initial blast being that of the pebbles of electricity.

Not wanting to endure that particular move again Violet swiftly void stepped to the side and launched a spear of her own out. Evidently not expecting her sudden movement it was struck in the side and a decent chunk of its ’body’ was blasted away.

As it staggered slightly the continual attack it was launching came to an abrupt end, just in time for Luna to close in and slight through what should have been its head, if it had a head anyway. As it floated though it didn’t seem particularly impressed by that move and lashed out with a whip of lighting at her in retaliation. She tried to block with her spear but let out a short scream of pain when the whip connected with her spear and the electricity coursed along its length and into her body.

Violet responded by closing the distance herself and swiping through the spot the whip originated from with her void infused claws, severing the whip and releasing Luna from its attack. Then she spun and whipped it back with her tail only to blink in surprise when her tail simply passed straight through its body to no apparent effect. ’Hu how’d that not do anything?’ Though the dragon.

Then she realised what happened when a bolt of ice priced the creatures core and exploded blasting away a nice chunk of the beast. "They can only be effected by magically attuned attacks!" She called out after her discovery. Unfortunately for the creature both of our girls had plenty of elementals attuned attacks. Which they gladly demonstrated as they swiftly tore the creature apart.

"Hu how was that thing a lower level than the sprites?" Luna blurted out after she read the notification.

"It’s probably a higher evolution so it is naturally stronger, like I’m a better dragon that other dragons!" Luna rolled her eyes at violets arrogant reply but failed to hide the small smile on her lips nevertheless.

Still the girls didn’t have much time to continue their discussion as the fighting did not stop for them.

They continued their journey onwards once more. Whilst they didn’t actively seek out battles they did put down anything that got in their way with prejudice. Violet would also send out the occasional void spear at a few lightning attuned beasts that were engaged in battle with other beasts. She never did more than that but her actions did have an effect.

From distrcting a elemental long enough that the overgrown Hog could land a finishing blow. To blasting off a limb that was raised to deal the killing blow to a temporarily downed stag giving it enough time to recover its footing and reengage his foe. Her numerous small actions might have been simple but they were noticed by most that they aided.

Wether she would in turn receive any benefit from her actions she didn’t know but the small trickle of exp that she received whenever one of the beasts defeated its foe was welcome!

And so they advanced, they caught all manner of beasts from more of the sprites and elementals. To more mundane beasts that simply had a lightning affinity such as a particularly annoying swarm of crows and flew just above their heads and fired down weak but numerous bolts of electricity at them.

Whilst Violet would have preferred to save her mana they were just so annoying that she unleashed her void cannon and blasted apart their swarm and sent the rest fleeing away.

Another level each was gained during this time and as their power steadily grew their competence in this form of a rolling battle only continued. When they finally saw the end of this domain in the distance their speed increased as they were eager to be out of this particular environment. For whilst the silence of the shadows was disturbing the deafening cacophony of the continual lightning and thunder was really starting to get in both of their nerves. Especially after Violet got struck by one such bolt during a battle. She still had the charred scales on her back as a result.

Thankfully though it avoided her still injured wing. This was actually a thing that they were truly beginning to notice, the slow and steady accumulation of wounds was only growing. Whilst Luna’s healing presence skill did help, its passive mature made it unsuited to this kind of extended period of battle. So they had to be careful to avoid any injuries that were too serious.

As they defeated the last elemental in their way they finally crossed the boundary separating the lightning domain from its neighbour. However, whilst they no longer had to worry about lightning bolts falling down on their heads anymore. They did now have to worry about falling into a river of lava or getting burnt alive. For they had reached the third domain, and it was one they were quite familiar with... Fire.
