Aether Chronicles: Birth Of A Legend
Chapter 238: This Is No Normal Battle
CHAPTER 238: THIS IS NO NORMAL BATTLE
When the crowd heard Raegar’s response, cheers turned into a thunderous roar, shaking the cobblestones and nearby windows. Students jumped onto tables, shouting their approval, while others tossed conjured dazzling bursts of light that swirled like comets.
Moments later, the second-years struck up a lively tune, lutes and drums blending into the night air. Just then, Selene and Alice appeared in front of him as the Demoness declared. ’’I’m already yours, handsome!’’
’’I would like to get to know you more, Rae,’’ the blonde said, avoiding his gaze with red cheeks. ’’I know our siblings are together, but that doesn’t matter.
Raegar shook his head, still chuckling, as he pulled both women into a group hug as he replied. ’’Of course, my Demoness and I’d like that Alice.’’
Following that, the group celebrated as Drusilla and Domonique appeared with more ale, as the entire first year was getting drunk while the professors watched over it. The bonfires flared brighter, as if fueled by the sheer joy of the moment.
The night stretched on, alive with music, laughter, and the promise of adventures to come for the academy’s boldest group. Following that, the party continued until everyone was thoroughly drunk.
Drusilla and Alice helped Raegar back to his room as Rune was out cold beside a rose bush in the garden. The Dark Fairy looked at the tanned girl and smirked. ’’You do know I can carry him myself?’’
’’That’s clear,’’ Alice replied huffing.
When the duo arrived at Raegar’s bed, he dragged both girls under the sheets and cuddled up to them. Drusilla loved every second of it, but the tanned beauty was nervous as it was the first time she’d been in a boy’s bed.
The Dark Fairy sensed the unease rippling through the air, a tension that clung to Alice like a shadow. With a gentle tilt of her head, she reached out, her voice soft yet steady, weaving reassurance into every word.
’’Alice, my dear, there’s no need to worry,’’ she said, her blue eyes glinting. ’’I’m certain Raegar holds you in his heart just as fiercely as you do him. Trust in that.’’
Alice’s lips curved into a tentative smile, her cheeks warming under the Fairy’s kind gaze. The knot of worry in her chest loosened, if only a little, as she murmured. ’’Thank you, Dru. That... means a lot.’’
Her voice carried a fragile hope, as if the words themselves were a lifeline. The moment lingered, soft and unspoken, before the two settled down beside Raegar. His presence radiated a comforting warmth.
The steady rhythm of his breathing and the gentle heat of his body lulled them into a peaceful stillness. As the world around them faded, the two girls surrendered to sleep as the waves battered the nearby window.
Hours later, Raegar woke up and let out a deep yawn, escaping his lips as he became aware of the gentle weight of Alice and Drusilla curled against him, letting out adorable snores as the Darl Fairy was sleeping peacefully.
Their soft breaths mingled in the quiet, their forms nestled close, drawn to the warmth of his presence. A smile spread across his face, his heart swelling at the sight of them as he realized they must have helped him.
Leaning down, he pressed a gentle kiss to Alice’s forehead, then Drusilla’s, his lips lingering for a moment as he savored the quiet intimacy of the moment. With a flicker of thought, he used Flash Step to appear out of bed.
His bare feet touched the cool floor just beyond the bed’s edge, and he steadied himself, blinking into the dimness of the room. Something caught his attention, an unnatural darkness in the air, heavier than the night should allow.
Raegar’s gaze shifted toward the window, where the water beyond seemed to churn with an inky, unnatural hue, far too deep for the hour. His red eyes sparked to life, glowing faintly in the gloom like twin embers as he stepped closer to the glass.
He saw darkness outside pulsed, almost alive, and his instincts sharpened, every sense attuned to the strange Aether that seemed to ripple just beyond the glass, that was giving him a bad feeling.
Raegar stood frozen at the window, his gaze locked beyond the glass. The water, already dark, seemed to have a life of its own, its surface rippling. Then, from the depths, it emerged, a colossal sea monster, its form so vast it seemed to swallow the tower.
Its serpentine body coiled through the water, scales glinting like obsidian, each one larger than a warship’s hull. Eyes like twin moons, their gaze piercing through the gloom with a power that dwarfed any force he had ever encountered.
His breath caught, the air in the room growing heavy as the creature’s presence pressed against his senses. Raegar, no stranger to power, felt his magic flicker like a candle in a storm, utterly insignificant against the primal energy radiating from the beast.
Its massive head tilted, revealing rows of jagged teeth that could rend mountains, and a low, resonant hum vibrated through the water, shaking the very walls around him, and he saw the glass shake.
For the first time, a chill of awe and dread crept up his spine, his instincts screaming that this was no mere monster; it was a force of nature, ancient and unstoppable, born from the heart of the deep.
Raegar stared at the beast, who began to swim away, but something told him to get the girls out of there, as that wasn’t the end of it. Without a moment’s hesitation, he spun toward Alice and Drusilla, still nestled in bed.
His heart raced as he scooped them into his arms, their soft forms light against his strength. Alice stirred slightly, her blonde hair spilling over his shoulder, while Drusilla murmured something incoherent.
There was no time to explain, no time to wake them up gently. Raegar bolted toward the door, his feet pounding against the stone floor as he aimed for the spiral staircase that led to safety.
Halfway to the door, he looked back at the window, and his blood ran cold. The sea monster, which had seemed to retreat, was now surging forward with terrifying speed, its massive form filling the glass with a wall of glistening scales and jagged teeth.
Its eyes burned thanks to the hatred that was coming from the monster, locked on the tower as if it sensed the life within. The water churned violently, waves crashing against the glass with a force that made the walls tremble.
At that moment, Drusilla’s eyes snapped open, her sharp instincts cutting through the haze of sleep. She caught sight of the beast just as its colossal head loomed closer, its maw parting to reveal a cavern of razor-sharp fangs.
’’Rae!’’ she gasped, her voice a mix of fear and resolve.
In an instant, she shrank to her normal fairy form, her wings buzzing. With surprising strength for her size, she darted to Alice and hoisted her upward toward the staircase by the jumper she was wearing.
Raegar pushed forward, his muscles straining as he reached the door, but a deafening crash shattered the air behind them. The window gave way under the monster’s assault, glass exploding inward in a cascade of glittering shards.
Water roared into the tower, a torrential flood that surged with the force of a tidal wave, carrying the creature’s chilling presence. Drusilla, with Alice clutched tightly, zipped up the spiraling stairs, her wings beating furiously against the rising chaos.
Raegar followed, his red eyes blazing with determination, every step a desperate race against the unstoppable force now flooding the tower. The sound of water rushed up behind them.
As the school’s alarm blared, piercing screams and professors’ shouts echoed through the halls. The churning waves began to still. He spun around, heart pounding, only to face the gaping maw of a sea serpent lunging toward him, then, abruptly, it was yanked back.
’The Lost One! It’s much stronger than this water snake,’ he thought, a surge of exhilaration electrifying his veins.
With an earth-shattering roar, the colossal Kraken erupted from the abyss, its monstrous tentacles ripping the sea serpent apart as if it were mere chaff. Dark scales rained like shattered obsidian as the beast’s writhing limbs shredded its foe.
The colossal Kraken, its tentacles like living towers, roared with primal fury, slamming into the sea serpent with bone-shattering force. The serpent’s jagged maw snapped, venomous fangs glinting.
Moments later, the Kraken’s limbs coiled tighter, tearing dark scales that fell into the frothing waves. Raegar’s heart thundered, his eyes wide, as the ocean boiled under the clash of titans, their roars shaking the heavens.
The serpent lunged, coils tightening around the Kraken’s body, but the beast retaliated, its suckered limbs prying the serpent apart with relentless might. As the sea churned red and black, Raegar whispered. ’’By the gods... this is no normal battle.’’
Just then, Alice and Drusilla appeared beside him as the Dark Fairy questioned. ’’What the hell happened, Rae?’’
