After Becoming the Villain Mother-in-Law, I Launch My Redemption Arc
Chapter 80: What Kind of Monster
CHAPTER 80: CHAPTER 80: WHAT KIND OF MONSTER
"Whether there is or not, I actually don’t really care. What I actually want to do is sever ties with the Meng Family. Of course, this doesn’t include big sis." Meng Yao said, "You know, big sis, they’ve always been fixated on Dahe. If there’s no connection, they can’t boss us around."
"Severing ties will leave your family isolated in the village." Meng Zhu was somewhat worried.
No family support, no backing from the husband’s side either.
If anything happens, there’d be no one to rely on.
"Isn’t that how it is now? Apart from causing trouble, the Meng Family hasn’t supported me in any way." Meng Yao said casually.
Meng Zhu filled in the emotional distress in her own mind.
"Tell me, what should I do?"
"Just speak directly." Meng Yao said, "But, it might implicate you, big sis."
To be honest, she didn’t have any good solutions.
Meng Zhu didn’t care, "What can it implicate me with? I’m part of the Li Family now, at most I’ll hear a few curses. I even hope she’d be so mad that she cuts ties with me, though I doubt it. She may not like me but she appreciates the gifts I bring back during the holidays."
Meng Yao was amused, "Big sis, actually seeing you, I’m not that sad. You’re a biological daughter, and you’re not doing better than me, an adopted one."
"Oh, you’ve learned to poke fun at others." Meng Zhu teased.
"That’s just so you won’t have a gloomy face. No matter how they treat me, your kindness has always been in my heart." Meng Yao said seriously, "So, even if I sever ties with the Meng Family, you will always be my sister, my real sister."
Meng Zhu cheerfully wiped her tears again, "You have a conscience, not in vain did I care for you since you were little."
"What I’m really curious about is, didn’t anyone know I was sent to the Meng Family by outsiders? Didn’t anyone find it strange the Meng Family suddenly had an extra child?" Meng Yao asked.
"When you were sent, my sister had passed two hours before." Meng Zhu said sadly.
So, initially, Meng Zhu’s kindness towards Meng Yao was a form of emotional transfer, perhaps.
But gradually, their sisterly bond grew stronger and stronger.
So that’s how it was.
The original body took advantage of the identity of the young deceased daughter of the Meng Family to grow up.
"What was the cause of her..." Meng Yao asked.
"High fever, mom didn’t call a doctor." Meng Zhu’s tone was flat, "I fed her water until I couldn’t anymore; she died in my arms."
So, Mrs. Sun truly was heartless towards her own biological daughter.
"Sis, don’t dwell on the past. You’re pregnant now, you should be happy." Meng Yao said.
"Sometimes I think, dying wasn’t bad; being reborn in a better family is better than staying with the Meng Family." Meng Zhu countered sarcastically.
Meng Yao gently held Meng Zhu’s hand, unsure of how to comfort her.
Regarding the issue of severing ties with the Meng Family, Meng Yao solemnly gathered the Zhao Family members, which basically meant informing Zhao Dajiang and his wife, and Zhao Dahe.
The three were shocked after hearing.
No way, it was too sudden, and too absurd.
However, after confirming the credibility of the information, Zhao Dajiang and his wife were supportive of whatever Meng Yao decided.
Zhao Dahe even analyzed the feasibility of severing ties from various angles.
The conclusion was that as long as Meng Zhu testified and got the village chief involved, it shouldn’t be a problem.
Therefore, Zhao Dahe accompanied Meng Yao and Meng Zhu to the village chief’s house.
Why he accompanied them is naturally due to his scholarly status.
The village chief was quite surprised and repeatedly questioned Meng Zhu about the truth. After receiving a positive answer from Meng Zhu, the village chief paused and then spoke, "Nurturing kindness surpasses birthing kindness. No matter what, the Meng Family raised Meng. Severing ties is likely to attract criticism and judgment. Dahe wants to take examinations; should he receive accolades in the future, this kind of matter may be brought up to criticize him."
Basically, the village chief’s point was that severing doesn’t have much significance.
"They never truly treated my mom as family, where’s the nurturing kindness? Moreover, my maternal grandparents gave them silver back then. This counts as fostering; my mom originally wasn’t part of the Meng Family." Zhao Dahe was quick-witted.
"But that’s not how the villagers see it." The village chief said.
"Who cares what they think! We don’t have to cater to irrelevant people’s thoughts." Zhao Dahe never cared much about such matters.
Caring about these things doesn’t bring benefits, just adds unnecessary troubles.
"You cannot be so headstrong in dealing with matters." The village chief patiently advises, "You have to consider all aspects."
The village chief’s standpoint wasn’t for the sake of Meng Family.
Zhao Dahe wanted to argue, but was stopped by Meng Yao, "Since that’s the case, let’s rethink other ways."
The village chief praised Meng Yao for her good sense.
Meng Yao smiled and led the group away.
"Mom, is that just it?" Zhao Dahe was somewhat indignant, "How about we wait until I achieve success in the exams and then discuss this matter? At that point, even the village chief wouldn’t be able to stop us!"
Meng Yao glared at him, "If you cut ties after achieving success, isn’t it more likely outsiders will say we’re ungrateful?"
"But without severing ties, it will be harder to shake them off in the future." Zhao Dahe said angrily.
"That’s why I said, think of other ways." Meng Yao replied with a knowing smile.
"Mom, do you have a plan?" Zhao Dahe suddenly understood.
"Kind of, don’t rush; let me arrange things first." Meng Yao said.
Zhao Dahe pressed for details, but Meng Yao didn’t reveal her arrangements, so he could only hope she’d sort things out quickly.
However, before Meng Yao could finalize her plan, the entire Meng family, accompanied by a priest, and followed by quite a few people, surrounded the Zhao family’s entrance.
"Priest, please quickly see what kind of demonic entity is possessing my daughter and granddaughter!" Mrs. Sun shouted loudly.
So, this was the follow-up consequence of Mrs. Sun claiming demonic possession.
And it came rather late; it’s been two days.
The villagers whispered among themselves, very curious.
The priest was goat-bearded, tall and thin, with a horsetail whisk hanging over his arm and a Peach Wood Sword strapped to his back, looking quite the part.
"Dajiang, Dahe, Xiu’er, move aside, lest the demon gets angry and lashes out at you when forced out. Chang’an and Changning, protect your mother and also step aside. When the priest exorcises the demon, don’t let the blood splash on you." Mrs. Sun shouted loudly.
"Priest?" Meng Yao walked forward calmly, stopped in front of the priest, with a half-smiling expression, "I wonder if the priest can discern what spirit or demon I am? Aren’t you afraid your inadequate skills might get you stuck here?"
"I am Wu Kong by title, the 14th generation Temple Master of White Cloud Temple! I have been subduing demons and monsters for over twenty years, eliminating harm for the populace countless times. Out of benevolence for life, I give you a chance; if you leave voluntarily, I’ll spare you! If not, don’t blame me for showing no mercy and forcing you to reveal your true form!" After speaking, the priest waved his horsetail whisk.
Since White Cloud Temple was quite reputable, after the priest introduced himself, the crowd quickly retreated a significant distance, ensuring they wouldn’t miss the spectacle, and could easily run should something happen.
