Chapter 222: She Doesn’t Believe
CHAPTER 222: CHAPTER 222: SHE DOESN’T BELIEVE
"But... I saw An Shen, and your mom and dad, they were all there..." Bian Shu said nervously.
Bian Yue could only hold her shoulders, trying to comfort her: "Sister, you saw wrong. The doctor will be here soon. Let’s go to sleep, okay?"
Bian Shu, however, was staring intently at Bian Yue, her expression stubborn. She said: "Bian Yue, are you lying to me? Can you really not see anything?"
Bian Yue could tell that Bian Shu’s condition was getting worse.
She frowned, and it was with some effort that she finally persuaded Bian Shu to go to bed before she called Li Sihe.
The night was deep, yet the man answered the phone quickly.
As he spoke, his voice through the receiver still carried a hint of surprise, "Yueyue?"
"It’s me... I’m sorry to bother you so late, but I have an urgent matter to ask you about."
After Bian Yue finished speaking, Li Sihe quickly asked: "What’s the matter?"
"The medical records from Bian Shu’s previous stay at the sanatorium, and the contact information of her attending physician, could you give them to me?" Bian Yue paused and suppressed her emotion as she spoke: "My sister’s mental state is very unstable right now; I... I’m really worried about her."
"Bian Yue, don’t worry. I will have someone send you those things tomorrow. It’s already late; get some rest," Li Sihe said and then coughed softly a few times.
Bian Yue couldn’t help but ask: "Are you okay?"
"I’m fine. Don’t worry about me. Oh, by the way... in a few days, it will be my wedding with Zhuang Jie Ning. I hope you can come," Li Sihe’s tone carried a sense of expectation.
Bian Yue paused for a moment, and after a silence, she said: "Alright, Jinci and I will come together."
Li Sihe didn’t say anything more and hung up the phone.
Sitting in the hospital room, he looked out at the deep night scene, his emotions complex.
Come together?
Yet, he had clearly heard that Bian Yue and Shen Jinci were not getting along well right now.
Even so, Bian Yue still chose to protect him in front of herself.
Li Sihe couldn’t understand why, when it comes to betrayal, Shen Jinci could be favored, yet for him, there was no possibility of returning to Bian Yue’s side...
Meanwhile, in the main building of the villa, Shen Jinci quickly came downstairs, looking towards Shen Zhaoli who was about to leave, and said seriously: "Bian Yue has left the house."
Shen Zhaoli’s first reaction was to wonder if Bian Yue ran away from home.
"Do you think you’ve made Bian Yue so angry that you drove her away?" Shen Zhaoli blurted out: "You keep making her mad by hiding things and tricking her. It’s quite normal for Bian Yue to not want to see you, isn’t it?"
Shen Jinci’s expression was as cold as ice, silently listening to Shen Zhaoli’s speculation. The gloom in his eyes deepened, and his hands involuntarily clenched into fists—a feeling of panic took hold of his heart uncontrollably and swiftly.
How could he not know that Shen Zhaoli was speculating, yet he still couldn’t help but be overwhelmed by this possibility.
How could he not be afraid of losing her? He wasn’t as calm as he thought he was...
Seeing his troubled face, Shen Zhaoli frowned and said: "I’ll go look for her right away. Don’t panic, I’ll tell you as soon as I have any news."
Shen Jinci said nothing until Shen Zhaoli left. Only then did he allow himself to show his disheveled and panicked state, leaning against the wall, his hands and feet cold.
He knew he was standing at a crossroads, with only two paths before him.
But the fear of loss overwhelmed his reason.
He, so calm a person, was now in such a panic that he was at a loss.
He didn’t know what to do; his brain was even blank.
The very idea of ’leaving’ was laid out before him, its lethality far greater than he had imagined.
Shen Jinci thought, what if Bian Yue really left? Should he forcibly keep her by his side? Or continue to find a way to mend the deeply flawed lies?
Shen Jinci didn’t know.
As he was lost in thought, the sound of footsteps approached slowly from the distance.
His first reaction was disbelief.
He slowly lifted his head and saw Bian Yue standing not far from him, looking at him with a puzzled face.
He guessed that he must look ridiculous at the moment, perhaps even disheveled, with a fleeting look of panic in his eyes before he slowly stood up straight.
He spoke, his voice hoarse: "Where did you go..."
"My sister suddenly fell ill, I went to see her." Bian Yue walked up to Shen Jinci, looking at him with confusion, her surprise unmistakable: "What... what happened to you?"
A bitter sweetness surged in Shen Jinci’s throat; he didn’t know what to say and let his body uncontrollably embrace Bian Yue.
The cold and noble man’s despair was so intense, his emotions so tumultuous.
His eyes reddening, he hugged Bian Yue tightly and spoke again, his voice shattered, "I thought you had left... Yueyue, don’t go."
Bian Yue’s heart ached, she lowered her eyes and slowly pushed Shen Jinci away.
The moment her resisting motion appeared, Shen Jinci held back all his emotions, allowing Bian Yue to push him away.
He gazed at her, speaking softly, "Yueyue... I really didn’t know about what happened back then, none of those things had anything to do with me, I am not Shen Jinci..."
He spoke too eagerly, not even waiting for Bian Yue to ask before blurting it out.
Bian Yue looked at him, frowning, then as if coming to a realization, she nodded, "Alright, you say you’re not Shen Jinci, then who are you? You stand before me now, the entire Shen Family obeys you, if you’re not Shen Jinci, how can you prove it?"
"I’m Shen Jinci’s younger brother; we’re twins..." Shen Jinci paused, seeing the bewilderment in Bian Yue’s eyes.
He gripped her hand tightly, his voice trembling, "Yueyue, believe me..."
Bian Yue gradually broke free; she pulled her hand away, saying calmly, "Jinci, I’m not determined to blame you for what happened in the past, you could have once been indifferent to the Bian Family, I won’t hold it against you, I can’t expect you, a stranger to me back then, to feel compassion for me. But, you should at least admit, you ought to acknowledge all of it, right?"
The redness in Shen Jinci’s eyes became more apparent; he looked into Bian Yue’s clear and distinct eyes, at her calm demeanor, his heart sinking further and further.
He spoke, his voice reaching the utmost hoarseness, "I didn’t lie to you, I really am not Shen Jinci... I am Mors, the real Shen Jinci died when he was 23, I assumed his identity, becoming the person you see before you today, Bian Yue, I know all this is hard to believe, but this is the truth, I wouldn’t lie to you."
"Where’s the proof?" This claim was too absurd; Bian Yue slowly shook her head, speaking softly, "Jinci, let’s leave this matter as it is. You don’t want to admit it, and I won’t bring it up again. Don’t say you’re not Shen Jinci anymore, that’s too dangerous for you. I’m going to rest, you should rest too."
Shen Jinci stood in place, watching Bian Yue walk past him, heading upstairs. His eyes reflected intense agony.
