CHAPTER 64: CHAPTER 64: THE GREAT BEAUTY

Company Cafeteria

"That new intern today seems to be something special."

"Yeah, she’s so pretty, with a different air about her."

"Her outfit... and that bag isn’t cheap either..."

"I heard she’s been placed here by the director."

"Really..."

"Is this seat taken?" Sister Keaton’s voice suddenly appeared, startling the gossipers, who then noticed Florence Fuller behind her.

She was the subject of their recent gossip.

They exchanged glances, eyes wandering.

Could she have overheard them...

Florence Fuller looked at their frozen expressions and smiled slightly, "What’s up?"

"Nothing, nothing..." Sophia Hart quickly responded, "Sister Keaton, take a seat, you all sit, no one’s here."

Florence Fuller followed Sister Keaton and sat down.

"Um..." The girl sitting closest to Florence pushed a box of cold mixed vegetables towards her, "Care to try some? Sister Keaton, you have some too. My mom made it."

"Thank you."

Florence took a piece.

"No problem." The girl looked at her delicate profile, "My name is Sophia Seymour, if Sister Keaton gets busy and you don’t understand something, you can ask me."

Florence nodded.

"And me... I’m available too."

"Me too..."

Everyone at the table eagerly offered help, causing Sister Keaton to smile wryly, "Alright, you lot, looking at a pretty face makes you all restless, huh?"

"This beauty, Sister Keaton, it’s a rare thing for our operations department to have one, and she’s a real beauty at that."

Florence smiled slightly, "I’ll treat everyone to milk tea later."

"Wow~ Thank you."

Within a week, Florence integrated rather swiftly.

Firstly, because of her generosity, and secondly, she was easy to talk to.

In the new week, Florence confidently arrived at her workstation. Everyone else came in one after another, greeting each other with a "good morning."

Sister Keaton arrived at work just in time, breathlessly settling at her station, removing her coat.

"Sister Keaton, I brought you some breakfast." Florence handed over bread and coffee to her.

"Thanks a lot." Sister Keaton awkwardly said, "How much do I owe you, including the past two days?"

"No need to repay, I bought them as a combo package anyway."

After a week of observation, she noticed Sister Keaton always made it to the company right on the dot, sometimes skipping breakfast to continue working.

Sister Keaton looked at the breakfast in front of her, "Thank you. I’ve been rushing to drop my kid off at school lately, really in a hurry."

"How old is he?"

"Eight, just started third grade."

Florence nodded, "Sister Keaton, no need to feel bad, I’ll be needing your help quite a bit during this time."

Sister Keaton looked at her, just like everyone else, feeling that Florence’s family conditions must be excellent, being so pretty and well-dressed, with graceful elegance and luxury. Wearing name brands and driving luxury cars, and offering to treat everyone to coffee and milk tea so generously.

"Your internship must be quite smooth." Sister Keaton asked cautiously, "Rumor has it that you were placed here by the director."

Florence raised an eyebrow, "Do you know which director?"

Sister Keaton shook her head.

Florence smiled, looked at her computer, and didn’t say anything further.

After lunch, Florence received a phone call.

It was from Laura Yates.

"You’re back in Cloudsea City?"

Florence was unsure how she knew, "Yeah."

"Why did you come back?" Laura’s voice was heavy, "What are you doing back here?"

Florence, irritated by her tone, snapped, "I’m back and it doesn’t affect you, why are you asking so much?"

Laura was silent for a moment, "Are you going home?"

"No!" Florence hung up the phone decisively.

"Florence, you’re here, our group is having a meeting in the second conference room, you should prepare." Sophia Hart shouted from afar upon seeing her by the floor-to-ceiling window on the phone.

"Coming."

Florence put away her phone and followed along.

"President Fuller looked at the latest operations strategy plan but is still not satisfied," the manager said solemnly, "We need to make further adjustments."

"How many versions have we changed by now," someone groaned in pain.

"We’ve purchased advertisements, done promotions, but the game’s performance is stuck there..."

Florence wasn’t familiar with this operations project, having just arrived, but coincidentally, Sister Keaton was also responsible for this group, so she brought Florence along to learn.

She flipped through the documents in front of her, a company-developed new app game that had just been successfully launched, but its performance left much to be desired.

"This type of game isn’t particularly popular in the market anymore, if it had been launched a couple of years ago, with our operational strategy, it might’ve reached the market’s top ten. But the development team delayed for two years, and now it’s up for release but doesn’t have the same buzz as before."

"Keep thinking and revising." The manager sighed helplessly, "We are just workers, after all."

The meeting lasted an hour, and as they exited the conference room, everyone wore expressions of utter dejection.

"And I planned on taking my girlfriend to a hot spring after work today, seems like we’ll be working overtime again tonight."

"We’re just the grassroots cattle and horses..."

"Jobs are hard to come by these days too, quitting isn’t an easy option, tough life..."

Florence walked at the back, checking her phone, replying to messages.

"You, the new hire..." the manager called out as Florence reached the door, "The director wants to see you, head to the office."

Florence looked at him, "Who?"

"Our operations director, just upstairs," the manager said.

"Now?"

The manager nodded, "Yes."

The operations director? What does he want? Florence pondered as she headed upstairs.

She found the operations director’s office and knocked on the door. A female voice came from inside, "Come in."

Florence entered and politely asked, "Director, I heard you were looking for me."

The director, a young and attractive woman, glanced up at Florence as she entered, then returned to her work.

Florence repeated, "Director, you called for me."

The director gave her another glance, "Wait outside, I’m busy."

A bit impatient.

"The manager told me to come up," Florence remained gentle and composed, yet her presence showed no sign of intimidation.

The director laid down her pen, "I told you to wait outside, now go! And don’t think you can get arrogant just because Christopher Fuller supports you, go wait outside!"

Her authoritative posture seemed determined to make Florence comply with her orders.

Florence paused, "Alright."

She stepped out, waited at the door, and texted Christopher Fuller asking about this director’s details.

Christopher replied quickly, "Sophia Johnson, part of James Fuller’s faction."

Florence understood, "You’ve placed me in the department under James Fuller’s people, no wonder."

Florence figured it out.

Christopher and James seemed to be at odds within the company.

"She tells you to wait and you actually do? Just turn around and leave." Christopher replied, "She can’t do anything to you."

"It’s alright, I’ll wait for a bit first, I’ve been at the company for just over a week, I need to stay low-key."

Christopher laughed out loud on his side, "You’re not exactly low-key, everyone knows a beautiful lady joined the operations department."

Florence replied, "The word’s out that much?"

"But in the company, I haven’t even seen James or my dad..." Florence mused, "Should I go up myself?"

Christopher retorted, "How would I explain that?"
