After Marrying the Officer
Chapter 759: Probing for Information
CHAPTER 759: CHAPTER 759: PROBING FOR INFORMATION
Chang Luhui stood in front of Ou Jun, creating a barrier between him and Xia Chuyi.
"Let’s go, Vice Captain Ou," Chang Luhui said with a stern tone.
Ou Jun had failed to speak his mind earlier, and he knew it would be even harder to do so now.
"Then, big brother, we should leave," Xia Chuyi said at that moment.
Hearing this, Ou Jun sighed inwardly and his face showed a hint of disappointment.
Seeing Ou Jun’s reaction, Chang Luhui grew even more suspicious, thinking to himself, "This Deputy Ou is really problematic, very problematic indeed!"
Ou Jun did not notice Chang Luhui’s expression and simply said, "Let’s go."
Two vehicles for one patient was quite an overkill.
Thus, at the hospital entrance, Xia Chuyi had tried to persuade Ou Jun, fearing he would get tired from following along.
Still, Ou Jun insisted, "It’s okay."
In the end, they had no choice but to form a convoy with two vehicles as they grandly picked up Mother Xia from the hospital and returned to Heshan Village.
During the journey, Mother Xia dared not sit in the same vehicle as Ou Jun, nor did she dare to meet his gaze.
Upon arriving at the Zhao family’s home in Heshan Village and as the vehicles came to a stop, everyone got out and suddenly Ou Jun asked, "Chuyi, is this the place where you grew up?"
"Yes," Xia Chuyi answered without hesitation, "I’ve lived here since I was young."
Ou Jun nodded upon hearing this and said no more.
However, unnoticed by the others, Ou Jun secretly signaled to one of his subordinates.
When everyone entered the house, the subordinate stayed behind, not following them inside, and instead wandered the village to carry out a secret mission at the behest of his superior.
"Is that vehicle going to Zhao Minglang’s home again?" In the village, there was quite a bit of discussion about the two vehicles arriving at the Zhao’s.
"Indeed," someone said. "In our village, it’s Zhao Minglang who has made good. Not only was he the first to have a truck, but now he has even moved to the city!" Another person added, "And he’s got a niece who studies at Kyoto University!"
"You mean Chuyi? She’s truly a promising child, a credit to us. It’s a pity, though; she’s had some bad luck, losing her father early on and with a mother who doesn’t take care of things..."
The subordinate listened in for a while before interrupting, "The Chuyi you’re talking about, is that Xia Chuyi?"
"Goodness, where did this man come from! Are you with the liberation army?" The villagers, startled by the sudden presence of the subordinate, quickly asked, "Mr. Liberation Army, do you need any help?"
The subordinate smiled and said, "No need for formalities, folks. I’m just here to ask about a few things."
While speaking, he took out cigarettes to share.
The villagers were overjoyed.
"Ask your questions, Mr. Liberation Army!" They were very cooperative.
"Oh, you want to know about Chuyi? That child is accomplished; she got into Kyoto University! It’s just her family that’s not great..."
The crowd chattered on and on.
Meanwhile, Xia Chuyi and Xia Chengzong were helping Sister-in-law Hong move Mother Xia into the nearby house.
Ou Jun followed them inside, with Mother Xia still not daring to look at him.
"I, I should rest, you all go back now, go back," Mother Xia hurriedly issued the order for the guests to leave, clearly frightened of Ou Jun.
Xia Chengzong wanted to say something, his brows slightly furrowed, but Ou Jun remained unflustered and said, "Then, Mr. Zhao, you should rest well."
Xia Chuyi also quickly added, "Sister-in-law Hong, I’ll leave the things here to you."
In the end, they left Sister-in-law Hong in Heshan Village while the rest prepared to depart.
