After Prison, She Shocks the World
Chapter 156 Qin Sheng Is Here
CHAPTER 156: CHAPTER 156 QIN SHENG IS HERE
Xiaomei didn’t dare to make a peep in front of Wu Shi and followed her sister upstairs like a little tail.
After returning to her sister’s room, she lowered her voice to a whisper.
"Sis, does Wu Shi plan never to wear the mask again?"
"Are you afraid?"
"A little." Xiaomei, worried that Wu Shi would be hurt if he heard, quickly added, "I’m afraid of seeing it at night, but not during the day."
"Try to get used to it first. If you really can’t, we’ll try other methods, okay?"
Xiaomei nodded and hugged her sister’s arm. "How did your blind date go last night? Was the guy handsome?"
"He was very attractive, a righteous young man with a nice name," Fu Bing smiled. "Anyone Uncle Ren picks is bound to be good. His family background and status are both high, and he is also very outstanding."
"But you don’t look very happy."
"I’m not unhappy." Fu Bing smoothed her hair. "I haven’t seen much of the Rongs lately. Have you seen her?"
"Now that you mention it, I realize I haven’t seen her in days. She might be busy with her own things."
Xiaomei felt sorry for Han Hu’s situation; she took care of her whenever possible, so Han Hu didn’t have to worry.
Han Hu has her own secrets, she thought, and urgent matters to attend to.
Fu Bing didn’t ask further.
The hotel staff and a professional moving company brought over the Legos and cabinets.
Wu Shi directed them to move everything into the study.
Fu Bing was quite fond of it. Her study didn’t have many things in it, especially items related to her—it looked like a dull model room. Now, with the addition of the Lego models, it became much more interesting.
Wu Shi, looking at the Lego castle set up behind Fu Bing’s desk, revealed a satisfied smile on his scarred face.
Aunt Ning took in his entire expression.
After returning to her room, Aunt Ning said to Uncle He, "I feel like Wu Shi has special feelings for Xiaobing."
Uncle He stated firmly, "He likes Xiaobing."
"You knew already? Why didn’t you tell me sooner?"
"Liking Xiaobing is normal. Who wouldn’t like her after interacting with her? The reason I didn’t mention it was simple: I wanted to see if it was just a whim or if he truly likes Xiaobing. You’ve seen how he’s been these days; he cares for Xiaobing deeply, and she trusts him a lot."
Aunt Ning still had her concerns. "Wu Shi’s face and identity are issues, not to mention his past. Although he is our lifesaver, we don’t know much about him. What if something from his past comes to light that affects Xiaobing? It seems too risky to me."
After pondering for a while, Uncle He said, "If you’re not at ease, I’ll find an opportunity to talk with Wu Shi."
"Don’t be too blunt. Make him consider Xiaobing more. She’s come a long way to get where she is today, and her marriage is of the utmost importance. It must not go wrong. The blind date candidate from yesterday was chosen by Director Ren, so there should be no problem. If all else fails, there’s still Director Su. Xiaobing has done the Su Family a great favor, so marrying into it, she would live well. If she chooses Wu Shi..."
Aunt Ning dared not contemplate the kind of public scandal Fu Bing would face.
Uncle He, with his good hand, patted her back. "Don’t worry needlessly. The writing’s not even on the wall yet. If you point it out now, it’ll only make things awkward for everyone later."
"I hadn’t thought in that direction initially, but today, when Wu Shi took off the mask, I suddenly felt a sense of crisis. It’s as if he’s broken the chains in his mind and is willing to confront his face and past openly. Someone who has crawled out of the grip of the Grim Reaper—if they stubbornly want to possess something, who could stop them?"
Uncle He also had his concerns.
If Wu Shi had any designs on Xiaobing, then inviting him to live with them was like inviting a wolf into their home!
「Inside the study.」
Xiaomei moved the newly arrived parcels into the study, and Fu Bing asked Wu Shi to open them.
When Xiaomei saw that all the parcels contained Lego pieces, her eyes went wide.
What was this all about? Did her sister have so much free time to play with Legos? But her sister’s hand still hadn’t healed.
Fu Bing said to Wu Shi, "We can buy new ones once we finish assembling these."
Wu Shi hummed in agreement.
Xiaomei’s eyes went even wider.
She tiptoed downstairs.
Why did she feel that the atmosphere between her sister and Wu Shi was a little strange?
"Watch your step."
Lai Shenyan reminded her as she was about to miss a step.
Xiaomei quickly looked down and narrowly retracted her foot.
"Why are you here?"
"Came to see Bing," Lai Shenyan whistled. "Is she home?"
"She’s in the study watching Wu Shi assemble Legos."
"That idle?" Lai Shenyan started up the stairs.
Xiaomei stopped him. "My sister just got back; let her rest for a bit. You can have some tea with me first."
"Sure."
Aunt Ning often made rejuvenating and beautifying teas; even after staying up late, a cup would leave one feeling not too terrible. He was reluctant to live too far from Fu Bing’s villa partly for this reason, occasionally popping over to make off with a stash of wellness pills and tea bags.
Shenlan’s health had improved considerably recently from taking various little pills, and she had even put on some weight. She looked much better than before, when she was all head and little body.
Wu Shi quickly finished assembling a Bluetooth spider and placed it in front of Fu Bing. The spider’s rear end was a Bluetooth speaker, quite interesting.
Fu Bing, who had been daydreaming, jumped at the sight of the spider so close by.
"You finished it already?"
"If this were a competition, my speed wouldn’t even get me into the finals."
Fu Bing chuckled.
Sitting cross-legged on the carpet, Wu Shi looked up at her. "Have you decided if you want to see the contents of the chip?"
Fu Bing felt uneasy under his earnest gaze. "I’m both eager and afraid."
"Eager about what, and afraid of what?"
"I can’t put it into words."
"So, you’re not willing to open it?"
Looking at him, Fu Bing said, "You seem very interested in the contents of the chip."
"I’m curious about what he would leave for you."
Just as Fu Bing was about to say something, Xiaomei hurried upstairs.
"Sister, someone named Qin Sheng wants to see you."
"Who?" Fu Bing thought she might have misheard.
"Qin Sheng. ’Qin’ as in Qin Jinhai, ’Sheng’ as in blooming."
"He’s Qin Jinhai’s father."
"This..." Xiaomei turned to Wu Shi. "Wu Shi, go down and send him away!"
Wu Shi gave Fu Bing a look that told her to stay calm, then got up and went downstairs.
Wu Shi still wasn’t wearing a mask.
Lai Shenyan was drinking tea, and when he saw Wu Shi’s face, he spat out a mouthful.
This, this, this... Couldn’t they give a heads-up before he shows up without a mask, to prepare us mentally?
Wu Shi ignored him and headed straight out.
Qin Sheng had been staring fixedly at Wu Shi from the moment he appeared, not missing any of his reactions. Although he didn’t show much on the surface, seeing Wu Shi without a mask still surprised him.
Qin Jinhai was obsessed with appearances, especially his own face. His body could have many injuries, but his face had to remain unblemished. His obsession with his face was almost pathological.
For the first time, his own doubts began to waver.
Is Wu Shi really not Qin Jinhai?
