After Prison, She Shocks the World
Chapter 189 Su He’s Thoughts Exposed
CHAPTER 189: CHAPTER 189 SU HE’S THOUGHTS EXPOSED
Su Junhui’s mouth was slightly agape.
I remember she’s my Second Uncle’s younger sister-in-law. How did she suddenly die?
He wasn’t often in Jiangcheng. His advisor loved taking cases everywhere, especially difficult, underfunded ones, so he wasn’t familiar with the recent situation in Jiangcheng.
He had two impressions of Li Qing: one, his Second Uncle’s younger sister-in-law; and two, that she had fought with the movie queen Fu Bing over a man.
"There’s a lot of hidden information in this case. Perhaps you can ask your family about it."
"And then come back to gossip with you, right?"
"Gossip is more interesting when shared."
"Why don’t you just ask Professor Shen?"
Professor Shen was his advisor’s father-in-law. His advisor had also studied under Professor Shen for his Ph.D., and somewhere along the line, he’d charmed away Professor Shen’s precious daughter.
"I’m not ready to die that young," the advisor replied crisply.
After finishing his meal, Su Junhui chatted for a while longer before going downstairs.
The family driver was already waiting downstairs.
"Fourth Young Master, how long can you stay this time?"
"Until my Ph.D. courses start."
"The family will surely be very happy."
Su Junhui smiled; he was happy too. Despite being the only student in the family, he was the busiest of them all. Sometimes he even felt embarrassed to say he was busy.
Su Junhui lowered his head to look into Li Qing’s case files. After reading them, he was silent for a long moment.
Had Qin Jinhai truly let his ex-girlfriend die in such an aggrieved manner? However, when he recalled the fate of Qin Jinhai’s previous ex-girlfriend, Su Junhui felt a sense of relief. That previous ex-girlfriend had been sent to prison, and Qin Jinhai hadn’t lifted a finger.
Su Junhui had studied Fu Bing’s case back in the day. The main charge was tax evasion. Under normal circumstances, if the relevant departments issued a reminder and the party cooperated by paying the arrears, the matter would have been dropped. A first-time offender wouldn’t go to jail. Fu Bing had mostly been sabotaged by her own staff. Coupled with the intention to make an example of her, she received a harsh sentence. But at that time, his reach wasn’t long enough to know the machinations behind it.
Lost in thought, Su Junhui didn’t realize the car had already entered Sully.
The Su Family was already at the front gate to welcome him.
Su Junhui’s gaze fell upon the middle-aged, beautiful woman, and he called out somewhat stiffly, "Mom."
"Ah," Han Liying beamed, her smile radiant. "You’re even more handsome in person than in the videos."
"You look better than in the videos too," Su Junhui said as he hugged Han Liying, whispering in her ear, "I finally understand why Dad would be willing to live like a widower for you all these years."
Su Jiang glared at him. "What did you say?"
"I didn’t say anything," Su Junhui chuckled. "I heard Second Uncle’s family has a new baby. I’m going to see him."
"The gift has already been prepared for you," Han Liying said, slipping a small box into his hand.
Su Junhui hadn’t even entered the main house before he headed straight to the Su Family’s annex.
Ever since Su He had seen Fu Bing’s profile one night, he rarely went out. He had brought his two daughters from his first wife back to the annex. Now there were three children in the household.
As soon as Su Junhui stepped into the annex’s courtyard, he heard the giggling laughter of three children. Su He was sitting in the pavilion, watching them.
"Second Uncle."
"So, the busy man finally decided to grace us with his presence?" Su He said with a smile.
"I’m the one doing the grunt work, alright?" Su Junhui jogged over to Su He.
Su He gestured for his eldest daughter, Su Keqin, to bring Su Xiaobao over.
Su Junhui took Su Xiaobao in his arms and tapped Su Keqin lightly on the head with his other hand. "I just got back and didn’t know you and your sister were here too. I’ll take you out to buy gifts later. Gifts for little girls should be chosen by you personally."
"Thank you, Fourth Brother," Su Keqin said sweetly, calling her younger sister Su Keyue over as well.
One was fifteen, the other thirteen. They were both old enough to understand a fair bit about the world. They knew their father had brought them home because he wanted their younger brother to have the company of relatives. Their mother was still living elsewhere. Their future, and their mother’s, hinged on how well they got along with their little brother. Only by maintaining their connection with the Su Family could they hope for a bright future.
Su Xiaobao was in Su Junhui’s arms for barely two seconds before she wiggled her little bottom, stretching out her tiny arms for her sister to hold her.
Laughing, Su Keqin took the soft little baby into her arms and said fondly, "You certainly know who to pick."
Su Xiaobao immediately let out a bubbly laugh. She even showed off her newly sprouted little teeth. Each tiny, white tooth was exceptionally cute.
Watching the three children, Su He experienced a rare moment of domestic bliss.
"Are you leaving again this time?"
"Not for now. The next time I leave, it will be with my advisor. Once I complete my doctorate, our family will finally have someone in the legal field, which will save us a lot of trouble down the line."
After speaking, Su Junhui glanced at the three children. "Second Uncle, can I have a word with you alone?"
Su He got up and walked inside. "You want to ask about Li Qing?"
"I also wanted to ask about former Second Aunt, but I was afraid of stirring up painful memories for you."
"From the moment she destroyed the woman I cherished, she was utterly dead to me. If she weren’t Xiaobao’s birth mother, I wouldn’t have even considered arranging her burial." Su He’s expression was frigid, still emanating a chilling ruthlessness.
"What about Li Qing? I heard my advisor has taken this case. He was commissioned by the hospital to prevent them from being sued. Do you plan to hire an attorney for her?"
"The Li Family is currently itching to make one last profit from Li Qing’s death. There’s no need for us to intervene. Unless, of course, you want to be their defense attorney."
"Go head-to-head with my advisor? I have no intention of doing that. Besides, I ran into someone from the Li Family a couple of days ago. Law firms and university legal circles are all refusing to take this case. But it doesn’t rule out the possibility of some money-grubber taking it."
Su He was puzzled. "What are you trying to tell me?"
"I don’t want you to spend a fortune helping the Li Family," Su Junhui said, his gaze sharp with indifference.
Among Su Jiang’s five sons, Su Junhui was the most similar to Su He. They also got along the best, and Su Junhui was adept at guessing Su He’s thoughts.
His Second Uncle had always been a maverick, disregarding everyone else. He viewed rules as inconsequential, acting solely on his whims. He didn’t like Li Qing, and he certainly didn’t love Li Hua. If he found a situation amusing, he might try to add fuel to the fire. That would, in turn, fulfill the Li Family’s greed.
From a legal perspective, even if there was something suspicious about the hospital’s power outage, the hospital would still be obliged to provide humanitarian compensation. The greater the public outcry and social impact of this incident, the more certain it is that the hospital director and the heads of various departments will be completely ousted.
"Are you here because you’re worried Director Li might be dismissed?"
"I can’t deny that’s part of it. More importantly, you need to make Xiaobao draw a clear line with the Li Family. If you help Li Xumin’s family at this critical juncture, they’ll only push their luck, getting closer to Xiaobao and clinging to him like he’s their golden goose."
"You’re an adult; you can avoid them. But what about Xiaobao? Do you want him to be entangled with the Li Family indefinitely?"
"And then there are Keqin and Keyue. They are your children too; their future also needs consideration. Are you going to let them watch you help the Li Family while ignoring their own mother?"
