After Rebirth, I Married the Great Demon King
Chapter 412: We Are the Match Made in Heaven
CHAPTER 412: CHAPTER 412: WE ARE THE MATCH MADE IN HEAVEN
Yun Tiancheng saw Yun Shifei with the same unwilling-to-speak-more expression again and shook his head helplessly.
He used to think Yun Shifei was particularly obedient, but looking at her today, could it be that her rebellious phase came late?
Yun Shifei returned to her room, lay on her bed, and thought about Cheng Lie’s reactions toward her these past few days.
It was really rather strange.
She didn’t even know what Cheng Lie’s behavior meant.
She really wanted to ask Zhao Pan, so she did just that.
Zhao Pan was just about to go to sleep when he heard Yun Shifei’s voice, jolting him awake in an instant.
"Miss Yun, what’s wrong?"
"Has Cheng Lie been acting strange lately?"
As expected, she’d brought up Cheng Lie. It must be because Mr. Cheng has been unusually cold toward Miss Yun recently; she had picked up on it.
At the thought of this, Zhao Pan felt conflicted inside. He wanted to explain, but he had been reprimanded by Mr. Cheng last time for speaking too much. This time, he absolutely did not dare to step out of line.
"No, Mr. Cheng’s been fine lately."
Hearing this, Yun Shifei lowered her gaze. "He seems like he’s grown distant."
"This... it’s probably just one of those phases men go through every now and then. It’ll pass soon." Zhao Pan smiled, trying to comfort Yun Shifei.
However, his reassurances didn’t do much to comfort Yun Shifei.
Since she couldn’t get any answers out of Zhao Pan, Yun Shifei had no choice but to drop the subject.
She could only console herself that maybe Zhao Pan was right.
The next day, Yun Shifei went mountain climbing with Yun Tiancheng and Xu Ya. The three of them hailed a cab and headed straight for their destination.
On the way, Yun Shifei sat in the front, listening to Yun Tiancheng and Xu Ya chatting.
"Xiao Ya, how did you find the food at that restaurant we ate at yesterday?"
"It was good."
"Then let’s go try it again today. Old Lin recommended it to me. I thought it was quite decent too."
Yun Shifei: "..."
Good grief, why did she have to listen to her parents being lovey-dovey?
Thankfully, they soon arrived near the mountain.
After buying tickets, the three of them started slowly ascending the mountain.
Perhaps because it was still early in the morning, a light mist hung in the air. The damp, refreshing breeze hit Yun Shifei’s face, making her feel particularly relaxed.
She had also been exercising recently, so climbing the mountain wasn’t difficult for her at all.
Xu Ya, however, was panting and out of breath, saying she needed to stop for a break.
Yun Tiancheng stayed back to accompany her.
Yun Shifei looked at Yun Tiancheng and Xu Ya. "Dad, Mom, I’ll head up first. Let’s meet back at the base at the time I just mentioned."
She glanced at her watch and named a time.
Seeing Yun Tiancheng nod, Yun Shifei started off on her way up the mountain.
She thought to herself that she couldn’t keep watching her parents show off their affection—it made her feel like some sad little puppy.
There weren’t too many people climbing the mountain this early, but she occasionally saw a few scattered along the way.
Yun Shifei focused on the path ahead as she climbed.
She thought about taking a photo at the mountaintop later and sending it to Cheng Lie.
She initially thought about asking Cheng Lie to come along, but she had a feeling he would’ve turned her down.
She hadn’t expected their relationship to end up like this.
Just as she was lost in her thoughts, she suddenly heard a voice ahead. "Isn’t it pretty relaxing here?"
A woman’s voice sounded, and Yun Shifei stood still, stunned. If she wasn’t mistaken, it sounded like Wen Lin’s voice.
She quickened her pace and walked forward.
Sure enough, she saw Wen Lin’s back.
Today, Wen Lin had dressed for the climb, wearing casual sportswear with her slightly longer hair tied back in a ponytail. From the back, she looked far removed from her usual domineering appearance, even a little playful.
And the man beside her...
Yun Shifei saw his back and, surprised beyond measure, stopped in her tracks.
The person before her was Cheng Lie.
Even if it was just a glimpse of his back, she recognized him instantly.
At the moment, they seemed to be standing very close. Wen Lin even reached out to link her arm with Cheng Lie’s.
Yun Shifei subconsciously stepped back two paces. The moment she saw them, instead of stepping forward, she retreated.
Because she was utterly stunned.
Her gaze stayed fixed on them, following them until they gradually walked farther away. Only then did she come back to her senses.
She tried to step forward but found her legs heavy, as if they were weighed down by thousands of pounds.
Why would Cheng Lie be with Wen Lin? Yun Shifei was a bit dazed.
She had already harbored suspicions in her heart before, but she kept convincing herself she should trust Cheng Lie.
But now, witnessing this scene, she simply couldn’t bring herself to believe him anymore.
She stood there for quite a while, until Yun Tiancheng and Xu Ya caught up with her. They were curious why Yun Shifei, who had gone so far ahead, was just standing there.
Yun Tiancheng asked, "Shi Fei, didn’t you go on ahead? Why are you here?"
Yun Shifei snapped back to reality. "I just wanted to wait for you guys."
She found a pretty good excuse.
Though it wasn’t really about waiting—it was just that she was too shell-shocked to move forward in that moment.
The image of Cheng Lie and Wen Lin walking together stayed in her mind, feeling like an invisible hand tightly gripping her chest, leaving her deeply uncomfortable.
She realized how much of a coward she was. She didn’t even dare to confront them.
By now, Wen Lin and Cheng Lie were already descending the mountain.
Along the way, Wen Lin was helping Cheng Lie because she knew about his vision problems these days.
She commented, "What’s gotten into you? Inviting me for an early morning hike out of nowhere?"
Though she had been happy to accept the invitation, something about it didn’t feel quite right.
"I heard your girlfriend’s already here in Beijing. What’s this, ignoring her to invite me out instead?" Wen Lin smiled.
Cheng Lie pressed his lips together and, after a moment, said, "You should already have guessed why I asked you here."
Smart people don’t bother with lies, not even small ones.
Of course Wen Lin knew, but she just wanted Cheng Lie to humor her and make her happy for once.
Even if it was a lie, something like "I wanted to see you, to spend time hiking with you," would have been enough.
But Cheng Lie didn’t. He straightforwardly told her there was an ulterior motive behind their hike.
Wen Lin was upset, but she kept it to herself.
"Cheng Lie, in your heart, is my only value to you being someone you can use?"
Cheng Lie looked at Wen Lin upon hearing this but remained silent.
Wen Lin suddenly realized, no matter how poorly Cheng Lie treated her, she couldn’t bring herself to be angry at him.
This man knew full well how much she liked him, so he wouldn’t see her unless he needed something. And when he did, he’d call her.
She, Wen Family’s esteemed Miss Wen, had reduced herself to someone who groveled like a loyal dog.
Groveling for someone who might never love her in return—Wen Lin suddenly felt so pathetic.
"I’m sorry," Cheng Lie said.
Hearing those three words, Wen Lin really wanted to punch him.
"I’m sorry, I’m sorry," Cheng Lie had told her that so many times already.
Was it just a polite way of saying: "We’re not meant to be together"?
After thinking for a while, Wen Lin said, "Don’t you think we’re the ones who are truly destined for each other?"
