CHAPTER 214: CHAPTER 214: ARE YOU SATISFIED NOW?

Henry Preston’s eyes suddenly dimmed, but he still didn’t let go of my hand.

I struggled free from him, then got into the car, ready to rush to the hospital.

I couldn’t dare imagine what I would do if something happened to my mom. In this extreme panic, my mind was a mess, and before I’d gotten far, the car hit a flowerbed.

Luckily, I wasn’t driving fast, so when my head hit the steering wheel, I wasn’t injured.

"Zoe Hathaway, stop sulking with me, would you?" Henry rushed over, opened the car door, dragged me out, and checked me for injuries. He breathed a sigh of relief.

Then, he muddledly stuffed me into his car and sped towards the hospital.

Throughout the journey, I was somewhat dazed. I always thought my parents were in good health, until my mom developed some heart issues in recent years. As their only child, I never dared to think about what I would do if they were no longer around.

If I hadn’t gone looking for Henry last night, then Fern wouldn’t have caused a scene, Rosalind Sutton wouldn’t have exposed anything, and my mom wouldn’t have had a heart attack from excessive excitement.

This is all the result of my stupidity!

"Henry, why are you ruining my life?" I turned my head, looking at Henry with empty eyes.

"I haven’t wronged you, nor would I." Henry’s grip on the steering wheel tightened slightly, his knuckles turning white.

I forced a smile, "I’ve wasted ten years on you already, isn’t that enough? Crystal and the others said you were my jinx, I didn’t believe it, now I do. All my tragedies started because of you."

Henry said nothing, his thin lips pressed tightly together, and his perfectly lined profile was shrouded in gloom.

"If I hadn’t gone to find you last night, my mom wouldn’t have had an accident. I’m so stupid to think of asking you for help." I laughed at myself, feeling a deep sense of desolation.

Rebirth was just a turning point, but it couldn’t reverse all tragedies. The complexity of fate is something I can never grasp.

Miscarriage, divorce, entanglement, company trouble, my mom’s accident, it’s as if misfortune is always taking special care of me.

Whether Henry loves me or not is just another misfortune to me.

"I’ve already sent people to deal with Sanctum Biotech, they won’t turn to Astral Company, they’ll continue to cooperate with your family’s company," Henry simply stated what he had done for me.

"You’re supposed to fall in love with Azure and marry her, have children, and live a happy life. Why did things turn out differently? I can’t understand." I was a bit irrational, my mom’s situation just now seriously aggravated my emotions.

The car sped up a bit, Henry’s voice was very calm, "I can’t be with her."

"Haha." I just chuckled, still able to say such things at this point.

The car caught up with the ambulance and finally stopped at the hospital entrance. I immediately unbuckled my seatbelt and got out of the car, running after my mom into the hospital.

My mom was pushed for emergency treatment, and my dad and I waited outside.

At night, the hospital was empty. My father and I sat on the bench in the corridor, the bleak lights casting down on us, I saw that my father’s face seemed to have no color.

Not far away, Henry’s figure stood motionless, watching us.

My dad spotted Henry, his whole body brimming with anger, storming over to him.

"You bastard!" My dad grabbed Henry by the collar, shouting hoarsely, "You’ve ruined our family!"

Henry, taller than my dad and younger, could have fought back, but he stood still and let my dad slap him.

I watched coldly from the side without any reaction.

At this point, a nurse came over to intervene, preventing any conflict between my dad and Henry.

Once they were separated, my dad pointed at Henry, continuing to scold, "Hasn’t my daughter sacrificed enough for you? Why do you still have to entangle with her after the divorce? Do you want her life to be ruined?"

"No, I never thought that," Henry glanced at me, his eyes filled with sadness and helplessness.

I turned away to avoid his gaze.

"In that case, swear you’ll never contact Zoe again!" My dad’s face was livid with anger.

"I can’t do that." Henry replied straightforwardly, "I regret divorcing her, so I want to find a way to win back her heart."

I was stunned, he dared to reveal his intentions in front of my dad, is he not worried that my dad isn’t angry enough?

Sure enough, my dad became even more agitated. He was about to continue lashing out at Henry, but the door of the emergency room opened at this moment. He immediately released Henry and rushed to check the situation.

"The patient’s condition is not good, she might be in a coma for a while, it’s uncertain when she’ll wake up." The doctor brought bad news to us, my dad almost collapsed to the ground.

Mechanically, I supported my dad, completely dazed, not expecting my mom’s condition to be so severe.

Soon after, my mom was wheeled out, her eyes closed, face devoid of color, looking very frail.

"Mom..." My voice trembled, following behind my mom’s stretcher, arriving at the ward, watching the medical staff settle her down.

My dad held my mom’s hand, his eyes red-rimmed.

It’s all my fault!

I turned away from the ward, Henry still waiting outside, not knowing the point of his wait.

"I didn’t know things would turn out like this, I’m sorry." Henry apologized with a furrowed brow.

"Henry, there’s so much you don’t know, are you satisfied now? My family’s like this, consider it karma for wanting a divorce from you back then, is that enough?" I looked at Henry, pale-faced.

Henry looked at me silently.

I left without a word. I wanted to go home to rest, and then go to work as usual the next day. Although I’m not capable enough yet, since my mom is down, the burden of the company can only fall on me.

I hailed a cab back, my mind replaying black-and-white silent films, flashing different scenes nonstop; the bustling neon lights outside the window glimmered, making me dizzy.

Henry followed behind in his car, now completely not returning to Maplewood Gardens.

Just then, my phone rang, it was Ivan Underwood, "Where are you?"

"In the car, what’s up?" Only when I spoke did I realize that my voice was hoarse.

"How did your aunt suddenly have a heart attack? Her condition was pretty stable before," Ivan asked, "Why didn’t you inform me immediately when this happened? Is Henry at the hospital?"

I closed my eyes, exhausted, "Ivan, you must have seen the news about me and Henry, do you trust me?"

Ivan hesitated for a moment, then answered, "Yes, I believe you, I’ll believe whatever you say."

"Thank you." A weight shifted in my heart. Despite everything, he still trusts me. I intended to use this chance for Ivan to clearly see his feelings for me. Maybe with the current situation, we both need to calmly think it through.
