After Rebirth, I Replaced My Ex-Husband's True Love
Chapter 35: Let’s Go Together
CHAPTER 35: CHAPTER 35: LET’S GO TOGETHER
Crystal Dawson’s fighting spirit is indeed strong. If Silas Lockwood and Jason Forrest stick to the "men shouldn’t hit women" principle, they might just get beaten half to death by her.
I pulled Crystal Dawson back, "Crystal, a good girl doesn’t fight with men. Let’s go."
"Hmph, Silas Lockwood, remember this, kid. If I catch you next time, I’ll make you understand why flowers are so red!" Crystal Dawson glared at Silas Lockwood.
I was deeply moved by Crystal Dawson’s loyalty, so I covered her expenses for the rest of the night.
Crystal Dawson loves nightlife but still cares about skincare. I advised her that going to bed early would do wonders for her skin. She smirked, "Zoe, sometimes hormonal imbalance can cause bad skin. We’re almost thirty, and we need to have a sex life!"
I blushed, and the image of last night’s passionate encounter with Henry Preston replayed in my mind.
To be honest, even though my legs were a bit sore, after going out today, I did feel pretty good, like a long drought had been relieved by rain.
"Recently, I met a young artist, really handsome. I heard he has a few shows coming up and might become famous. Do you want me to introduce you to him?" Crystal Dawson asked, seeing my silence, and went on matchmaking mode.
"I’m not divorced yet," I reminded her helplessly.
"Isn’t that a matter of time? Get a backup first!" Crystal Dawson answered boldly.
I knew it was just a matter of time, but I had standards for a backup, like someone like Joel Sutton, whose status could provide me with the greatest sense of balance.
Otherwise, I’d rather not find one, to avoid unnecessary trouble.
"By the way, Yara said she’ll get engaged this weekend and invited a few of us on a spontaneous trip. Tiana and I already agreed. Are you coming?" Crystal Dawson asked again.
"Where to?" I asked back.
"Tentatively Morovia, Sonera Island. It’s nice, just a few days to relax." Crystal Dawson seemed eager to go and immediately warned me, "You have to go! You and Henry Preston never had a honeymoon trip, so consider this a self-reward!"
Her words tempted me a bit, who wouldn’t like a honeymoon with their girlfriends?
Besides, having done things I shouldn’t have with Henry Preston, I wanted to escape and give him some time to pursue Azure Vaughn properly.
With Henry Preston’s abilities, a leap within three days is definitely possible, right?
"Alright, it’s settled then!" I agreed readily.
After discussing the trip, Crystal Dawson tried to convince me to go clubbing with her later. I glanced at the time and immediately refused, because I needed to get home and sleep.
Staying up late last night was already taxing on my body; I have to take care of myself.
After leaving Whispering Gardens, Crystal Dawson complained about me not accompanying her for a fun night while getting into her car. I, too, prepared to drive back.
Just as I got in my car, a hand blocked the door. Ivan Underwood stood outside, "We need to talk."
"You scared me!" I patted my chest, "Get in the passenger seat, let’s talk inside the car."
Without much word, Ivan Underwood got into the car and went straight to the point, "The photo you sent me last time, did you take it?"
It’s been a few days, and he just got around to asking about it?
I admitted, "Yeah, I saw it with my own eyes, took it with my own hands. Why?"
"What was your intent in sending it to me?" Ivan Underwood turned his head, his gaze locking onto mine.
"...No intent, just thought you should witness it." I thought for a few seconds before giving a dismissive answer.
"Witness what?" Ivan Underwood’s tone was calm.
"Witness your dear brother encountering true love, alright?" Sometimes, talking to Ivan Underwood feels suffocatingly difficult. Like Henry Preston, he’s straightforward, but even more serious and stiff.
In the past, when I worked with him, his mind was fully on Azure, and we hardly discussed anything else, unlike now.
He’s like a teacher, and I’m like a guilty student.
But my answer was genuine, because Ivan Underwood would eventually fall for Azure Vaughn. I just wanted him to witness the progress of Henry Preston and Azure Vaughn’s relationship with me.
Ivan Underwood’s gaze shifted slightly, as if he were looking at a lunatic. Without saying anything, he got out of the car.
As soon as he got out, I hit the gas and drove away, and in the rearview mirror, I saw him still standing there watching me.
The next few days, I was quite busy, accompanying Leah Lane in choosing a hotel and discussing the engagement process. She said I was the only one among the four of us who had been married and had some experience.
What experience do I have? I didn’t even have an engagement party; we went straight to getting married.
In the end, the engagement party was set at The Apex Hotel, with a planning team for the event design. Leah Lane even told them that if the engagement goes well, she would hire them again for the wedding at the end of the year.
The night before Leah Lane’s engagement party, I was having dinner when Henry Preston returned.
He seemed a bit tired, casually loosened his tie and tossed it on the sofa, then went to pour himself a glass of water. Watching his figure while I ate, I found it strange. Was chasing after Azure that exhausting these days?
"Mr. Preston is back," a housekeeper auntie greeted politely.
Henry Preston gave her a cool glance without replying, went straight to the dining room, and sat down. Laura Lawson, noticing this, sensibly added a set of cutlery.
I buried my head in my meal, feeling a bit awkward. Henry Preston and I should maintain a cold and distant relationship until we divorce. Having shared such an intimate encounter, seeing him was just weird.
Before Henry Preston could even eat, his phone rang. It was his father calling.
"I heard the contract with Anson Tech was signed?" His father’s voice came through the phone.
"It’s signed, everything went smoothly," Henry Preston replied on speakerphone while eating.
"Good, not bad. You must be tired from flying overseas these days, get some rest early." His father was clearly pleased, complimenting Henry Preston and advising him to rest well before hanging up.
I was somewhat surprised. So, Henry Preston went on a business trip abroad these past few days? I thought he was relentlessly pursuing Azure Vaughn.
Noticing my gaze, Henry Preston raised his thick eyebrows, his standard almond-shaped eyes revealing a hint of detachment, "Why are you staring at me?"
"Nothing," I mumbled and resumed eating.
Henry Preston continued, "I’m invited to Leah Lane’s engagement party tomorrow. Let’s go together."
This time, I had to focus back on him, "You’re going?"
Our social circles never really merged; it was only out of courtesy that we knew the same people because our social status was similar, but we hardly interacted.
Leah Lane sent Henry Preston an invitation, likely prompted by her parents, standard protocol for cultivating future business connections. So, invitations still needed to be extended.
But that Henry Preston agreed to attend, I really didn’t expect. In the past, he never attended, only sent a gift through someone else.
"Yeah, is there a problem?" Henry Preston seemed displeased with my reaction, which looked like I was very reluctant for him to attend.
"No problem!" I shook my head, and with that, I stood up, "I’m full. Going to take a shower and sleep."
