After Rebirth, I Replaced My Ex-Husband's True Love
Chapter 4: Done on Purpose
CHAPTER 4: CHAPTER 4: DONE ON PURPOSE
"Stop dreaming, Zoe Hathaway. I want you to spend your whole life regretting the decision to marry me." Henry Preston regained his cold composure, seemingly seeing through my intentions, "You want to go your own way, then let’s both do our own thing."
I was shocked. In order to make me regret marrying him, he could even accept infidelity?
It hadn’t occurred to me that being forced to marry me had cast such a huge psychological shadow on him that he needed extreme revenge to relief it.
Just as my mind temporarily short-circuited, Henry suddenly reached out and hooked my waist, pulling me tightly against him, he licked his lips, his gaze unfathomable, "Shall I help you develop a bit more first?"
"No!" I immediately pushed Henry away.
Those destined to separate shouldn’t have unnecessary contact.
Henry squinted his eyes, staring at me sharply. He was a clever man, surely he had long seen through my abnormality these past two days. He pinched my chin, forcing me to look up and meet his gaze, "Zoe Hathaway’s twin sister, huh?"
A woman who loved him for ten years, how could she suddenly act so out of character?
I gave a dry smile, "You guess."
"Zoe Hathaway, our marriage isn’t so simple. Once it falls apart, the entangled interest disputes are abundant. I don’t have time to accompany you to perform a love-hate drama. If you really can’t bear the loneliness and want to go out and have fun," he didn’t answer my question, just leaned closer to my ear, "remember to use protection, I don’t want any illegitimate children."
I, a person who has died once, should have a calm heart, but driven by an unknown impulse, I raised my hand and gave Henry a hard slap, making my palm tingle.
The slap left a handprint on Henry’s face, accentuating his sharp jawline and outlining a perfect profile.
Even being hit, he was handsome.
He slowly turned his head, his eyes fierce and terrifying, as if he could strangle me in the next second. My hand trembled, not from fear, but because the slap had reopened my wound, which now bled.
Henry glanced at my hand and turned away, leaving me with a cold back view.
I looked at the blood dripping from the bandages, thinking it was good. It was better than the heart bleeding from my past life.
After that slap, Henry disappeared again. He was in the entertainment tabloids, surrounded by swarms of admirers, in nightclubs, at the company, but never at home.
I calculated the time, it was only half a month until the moment Henry and Azure Vaughn would meet.
During this period, I often visited "Serendipity," ordered a cup of black coffee, and quietly watched Azure work. Her every smile, every frown, deeply engraved into my mind.
If I were a man, I’d like her too.
"Azure, your boyfriend’s here to see you!" A colleague reminded Azure.
Right, I remembered she had a boyfriend, but that poor guy was no match for Henry. Even when he and Azure were passionately in love, it couldn’t withstand the power and status that turned into a cudgel, beating them into hapless lovers.
When I knew of Azure’s existence, she had already broken up with her unfortunate former boyfriend, so I never investigated that ex-boyfriend.
The café door opened, and a young boy in a white T-shirt and light blue jeans walked in, wearing a white baseball cap and carrying a box of takoyaki, looking neat and fresh.
I was stunned, a college student??
"Joel, why are you here?" Azure was as happy as a little hamster, welcoming the master who came to feed her.
"I was delivering flyers nearby, so I just came by to see you and brought you some takoyaki." The college boy’s smile was exactly like Azure’s, his eyes curved like crescent moons.
This was the resemblance between couples, but Henry had brutally torn them apart, what a sin.
Azure was both happy and heartache, "Just come to see me. You’re working hard delivering flyers, don’t waste your money bringing me food."
"Working hard to earn money is just to feed my Azure with snacks." The college boy had a talent for sweet talking.
I thought about it, Henry had never bought me snacks, nor did I like them.
Since Azure was still working, the college boy didn’t stay long. I sat in the corner with my head bowed, afraid he would notice me in the crowd and recognize me as the older woman who tried to flirt with him at a nightclub some time ago.
Once the college boy left, I quickly settled my bill and left.
"Ma’am." Lane always greeted me with this phrase.
"Let’s go home." I was exhausted. How is it that, after living another life, the relationships have become more complex? I massaged my temples, my brain cells were running out.
Before even 100 meters had passed, I spoke again, "Lane, let me drive."
The reason was that my hands itched, wanting to show off.
Holding the steering wheel, my eyes and ears were on alert, finally spotting the college boy waiting at the traffic light ahead. I seized the opportunity, floored the gas pedal, and successfully knocked him over.
"I’m sorry, I’m sorry!" I was so scared I quickly got out of the car, intending to help him up, only to see his leg bleeding heavily, the injury wasn’t light.
"Sister?" The college boy endured the pain, surprisingly calling out to me.
No wonder everyone likes college students; they have sweet mouths.
I instructed Lane, "Quick, take him to the hospital."
The college boy’s name was Joel Sutton, a university student, 21 years old.
Sitting on a hospital bench, looking at Joel Sutton’s contact number I just saved on my phone, there was a tinge of sadness in my heart. I ultimately wasn’t generous; the only revenge method I could think of was to use his way to treat him.
Since Azure could snatch away my husband, why couldn’t I snatch away her boyfriend? Even if she was forced, later on, she accepted Henry, which was when Henry completely lost it.
If Azure never accepted, he might have been more rational, considering the possibility that his efforts wouldn’t pay off.
The hospital was bustling; in my past life, breast cancer at a late stage had metastasized to my lymph nodes, and I spent my final days in the hospital.
The doctor said that women who were often angry and suppressed were more likely to get breast cancer.
I covered all of Joel Sutton’s medical expenses and generously compensated him for nutritional and lost wages fees.
Being hospitalized could delay him from doing part-time jobs.
I am actually quite a good conversationalist. In just half a day, I had pretty much dug out all the information about Joel Sutton. An ordinary family, with both parents around, farming back home, and an elder sister already married.
No wonder his girlfriend was taken by Henry.
"Take good care and recover. I’ll check on you from time to time." Before leaving, I played the role of a gentle, kind-hearted older sister with a warm smile.
"It’s okay, sister, I’m still very young, and my body heals fast." Joel Sutton showed his white teeth, answering innocently.
Young and healthy; why did it sound like he was tempting me?
Actually, I’m not old either, 27 is not 72, but five years of an oppressive marriage and a long-term habit of loss of appetite left me somewhat aged both mentally and physically.
I nodded, then on the way back, I went to a pharmacy and bought quite a few tonics.
