CHAPTER 193: CHAPTER 193: I ALLOW YOU TO PURSUE ME

"Grandma is asking, are you and her planning to have kids?"

"Why this sudden question?"

"Just answer me."

"Not planning to for now."

Grandma Green nodded, "It’s right not to want them yet, we can talk about this a few years later, you’re still young."

Lily’s mother didn’t understand her mother-in-law’s thoughts, "Weren’t you the one who wanted great-grandchildren the most?"

"Now I feel the youngest is still very young, it’s fine to have grandchildren a few years later."

"I know exactly what Grandma is trying to say." Jacob Green spoke upfront, "Lucy is my wife for a day and a lifetime. I want children, but Lucy doesn’t for now. If she wants, we can have them anytime, plus I hope our first child is a daughter."

"In a few years, you’ll realize that Lucy Eaton is no different from most women, and you’d know how happy you’d be with a cultured young lady as a wife."

Lily Green couldn’t listen any longer, "As the saying goes, it’s better to tear down a temple than a marriage. Grandma is really something, hoping my brother divorces and remarries. Lucy is living life with him, not you. Isn’t Grandma interfering too much?"

"Whose side are you on?" Grandma Green said angrily, "I just think that girl isn’t well-bred, not good enough for my grandson, what’s wrong with that?"

Lily wanted to continue speaking, but Jacob gestured with his hand that she need not say more. His gaze was deep, and his voice cold, "Saying such things about my wife in front of me? Aren’t you disregarding me too much?!"

Grandma Green was taken aback, realizing he was angry and wanted to explain, "Little Green, Grandma I..."

Before she finished speaking, Jacob stood up and left.

The dining table fell into silence. Grandpa Green looked towards Grandma Green and shouted, "You keep talking, even at meals. You’ve sent your grandson away. Happy now?"

"I think he’d leave the family for that wife of his!"

"I’m leaving too." Lily Green also stood up to go.

She barely ate and left the Green Family’s old residence, buying fast food and drinks to have in her car.

Midway through eating, she received a call from her assistant.

She placed her drink on the front passenger seat, holding food in her left hand and the phone in her right.

"Hmm? What’s up?"

"Vice President, there’s a monk waiting for you at the company entrance all day. He says his name is Logan Moore, do you know him?"

"Is he still there?"

"Yes, he’s right in front of me. I just finished overtime and he says he arrived in the morning."

"Ask him to stay, I’ll be there soon."

"Understood."

Lily hurriedly stuffed her fast food into a bag and drove straight to the company.

Logan Moore is a no-cellphone believer, he doesn’t use a phone, so she hadn’t left him a contact number.

She was surprised he came to see her.

Thinking about his engagement with his childhood friend, her expression turned grim, and her previously excited mood subsided.

What might he want when coming to see her?

Lily parked the car in front of Green Group Headquarters, unbuckled her seatbelt, and quickly got out of the car, her gaze fixed on Logan Moore in his black robe.

Seeing him, her restless heart stirred again.

"Vice President, you’re here?"

"Yes, you can leave now."

The assistant nodded and left promptly.

"The assistant mentioned you’ve been waiting all day. Are you here for something important?"

"Nothing much... just wanted to let you know I’ll be traveling for a month for a spiritual retreat."

Lily was puzzled, "Why tell me?"

"You usually tour..."

Does he think she’ll keep visiting the Grand Saint Temple?

"I won’t be going anymore."

Logan looked at her in surprise, "Didn’t you say you liked Buddhist studies? Are you not fond of it anymore, or found another temple?"

Lily looked away, her mind in chaos. Thinking this might be their last meeting, she took a deep breath and blurted out, "Because I love someone who got engaged to another. Actually, I never truly believed in Buddhism; I followed you from the street. Each visit to the Grand Saint Temple was just to see you."

"Turns out you don’t genuinely like Buddhist studies."

"But I truly like you."

Logan blushed and felt awkward, unsure of what to say. After a silent pause of several seconds, he finally said, "The engagement was decided by my parents without my consent. It doesn’t count. I’ve spoken to her parents about the engagement because we’ve known each other for a long time. They agreed to give me some time to think it over, and discuss the marriage later."

Lily’s heart skipped a beat. Was this an explanation to her?

Her mood instantly brightened, and a smile appeared on her face, "Why didn’t you agree?"

"I only see her as a sister."

"What about me? Do you see me as a sister?"

"No..."

"Then what?"

He didn’t answer again, just uncomfortable.

"Can I pursue you?" Lily approached him, asking softly, "Is it possible?"

He remained silent, lost in thought.

Lily edged closer, "Answer me."

"I..." His eyelashes trembled, "Allow you to pursue me."

Lily smiled, "How did you get here?"

"Walked."

"Get in, I’ll drive you back."

He took small steps, opened the passenger door, and Lily quickly grabbed her food and put it in the backseat.

"Did the front desk workers tell you I was on vacation when you came this morning?"

"Yes, but other than here, I didn’t know where else to find you."

"Not having a phone is quite inconvenient." She leaned in and buckled his seatbelt for him.

Logan held his breath; it wasn’t until she sat upright that he felt he could breathe again.

Lily turned on the music; it was a foreign song. She drove steadily, a little slowly.

Suddenly thinking he’d waited all day, Lily turned and asked, "Have you eaten yet?"

He shook his head, "Not yet, I’ll eat when I get back."

"No need to wait till you get back; let’s find a restaurant and eat, I’ll drop you off afterwards. I didn’t eat much dinner either." Happy to spend more time with him, Lily drove to a frequently visited restaurant near Green Tower.

Having passed the dinner rush, customers were sparse, and the two sat down, keeping in mind Logan ate vegetarian, she ordered only vegetarian dishes.

He ate quietly, without a sound, pacing himself slowly.

On the other hand, Lily, as usual, ate heartily.

This was their first meal together.

From dining to sending him back, Lily’s thoughts were tumultuous. Finally, as they parked at the mountain below the Grand Saint Temple, she took out a note and wrote her phone number on it for him, "Let me know with a public phone when you’re back from the retreat."
