CHAPTER 217: CHAPTER 217: I’M PREGNANT (PART 21)

Lucy watched a group of men chatting and realized she wasn’t suited for that setting, so she nodded, "Okay."

As soon as she joined a group of dazzling women, she was asked, "You are Mr. Gill’s..."

"I’m his girlfriend."

"Oh, I didn’t expect Mr. Gill’s girlfriend to be so beautiful. What’s your name?"

"Tia Bailey."

"Are you from a minority group?"

She smiled slightly and denied, "No."

"Is that a compound surname then?"

Lucy found this conversation tiresome, so she stood up, "No, I need to go to the restroom."

After washing her hands, she encountered several entrepreneurs’ wives talking at the entrance.

"Is the woman Jacob Green brought tonight his new girlfriend?"

"Probably, his wife hasn’t been gone long, and he already has someone new."

"Aren’t all men like that? Especially a young entrepreneur like him, there are plenty of women throwing themselves at him. It’s nothing surprising."

"I feel like that girl looks familiar, like I’ve seen her somewhere. Oh right, I remember now, she’s Nathaniel Sutton, the famous businesswoman from Country F."

"..."

As Lucy exited the restroom, she coincidentally ran into Elliot Gill, who was looking for her.

"Why do you look so unwell? Are you feeling uncomfortable?"

She shook her head, "No."

He held her hand, "Let’s stay for an hour and then leave."

Lucy uneasily tried to withdraw her hand, but he gripped it tighter and whispered, "Remember, your current identity is my girlfriend, so play along."

She didn’t resist any further and followed him to the bustling area.

Everyone’s face was filled with smiles, and the chatter was endless; such a setting made her feel noisy.

As she navigated through a small crowd, Lucy’s gaze landed on the figure she thought of day and night.

He wore a custom-made suit, and contrary to her imagination of him being disheveled, he seemed full of vigor.

She wanted him to forget the sorrowful past, yet she wanted him to have a place for her in his heart.

Such contradiction.

Lucy then noticed the woman beside him, who was very pretty, about 165 cm tall, with a small frame, wearing a red evening gown, exuding a confident smile and a strong presence of a businesswoman.

Elliot Gill continued walking forward, so she had no choice but to follow along.

"Isn’t this Ms. Sutton from Country F? It’s rare to see you here; when did you come to Country Y?"

Nathaniel Sutton smiled, "Just arrived today. Mr. Gill, and this lady is?"

"My girlfriend, Tia Bailey." Elliot Gill turned to Lucy and said, "This is Mr. Sutton, CEO of Sutton Group from Country F, say hello."

"Hello." Lucy extended her hand.

Nathaniel Sutton shook her hand, "Hello, Mr. Gill is really lucky to have such a beautiful girlfriend."

"You’re not bad either, having such a handsome companion. Anyone would think you and Mr. Green are involved."

"If that day ever comes, I’ll be sure to send you a wedding candy, Mr. Gill."

Lucy looked at Jacob Green; there was no change in his expression, making it unclear whether he heard or didn’t.

Her heart ached, and she felt the air thinning, making it hard for her to breathe.

Unable to leave, she stood there rigidly.

Just then, another business leader greeted them, "Gentlemen, let’s not all stand here, let’s move to the private room, drink and chat. Charles Sharp, why are you so late?"

Lucy followed the businessman’s gaze and saw Charles Sharp approaching with Sophie Bennett, the couple both had indifferent expressions.

Such occasions were like this; those with wives brought them, and those without brought whoever they pleased.

"Traffic jam, sorry for being late." Charles Sharp’s voice was hoarse.

"Three self-punishing drinks are in order."

The group moved to the private room, and after taking their seats with drinks served, Charles Sharp indeed drank three cups heartily.

The group of entrepreneurs chatted mainly about business topics, in which Lucy was not interested.

Though initially having a mood to see more of Jacob Green, she didn’t want to stay there for another minute.

"Fill Ms. Bailey’s drink." Nathaniel Sutton attempted to pour her a drink but was stopped by Elliot Gill, "Sorry, Mr. Sutton, my girlfriend can’t drink."

"Just a little; nobody at this gathering should get drunk today."

"Then perhaps a little red wine."

Nathaniel Sutton called a waiter and requested a bottle of red wine.

Once the wine arrived, Nathaniel poured some for Lucy.

"Thank you."

"You’re welcome."

Besides drinking a little red wine, Lucy sat there quietly, unable to join in the conversation and uninterested in chatting about any topics.

An hour indeed wasn’t a long time, but it felt infinitely extended.

It seemed a long time had passed, but upon checking, it was just over half an hour.

Feeling she couldn’t stand it any longer, she left the private room to get some fresh air.

Next to the venue there were places selling sandwiches, and feeling a bit hungry, she bought one to eat, along with a bottle of mineral water.

As soon as she ate it, she couldn’t help but vomit.

She unscrewed the mineral water bottle cap, rinsed her mouth, and paused before standing back up.

After waiting for a while and not seeing Elliot Gill come out, she re-entered.

Upon returning to the previous private room, she found only Jacob Green inside, everyone else was nowhere to be seen.

"Ms. Bailey, are you looking for Mr. Gill?"

She uncomfortably nodded.

"Mr. Gill said if you came back, you should wait here for him. He was called away by others, but should be back shortly."

She nodded, and went in to sit across from him.

"Mr. Green, can we exchange contact details?"

He raised an eyebrow, "Of course."

He then provided his account and Lucy added him with the account she recently created.

They didn’t chat casually, and she kept looking down at her phone.

Jacob Green leaned his arm on the sofa edge, supporting his face with his hand, resting his eyes.

He had drunk alcohol and was now waiting the effects out with some sobering tea.

Lucy inadvertantly glanced at him, noticing his closed eyes, and openly stared at him without blinking.

She desperately wanted to hug him, to tell him she hadn’t died.

If he knew she was pregnant, he would surely be overjoyed.

Thinking of this, Lucy’s eyes moistened, and just as she was about to turn her gaze away, he caught her in the act.

Their eyes met, and Jacob Green was taken aback.

Lucy’s heart skipped a beat, hurriedly averting her eyes, feeling restless, and stood up to leave.

Jacob Green had not paid attention to her before, including when she left the private room earlier, he hadn’t specially looked at her.

But seeing her eyes reddened just now as she looked at him, he found her strange, and as she quickly stood to leave, he couldn’t help but watch her.

Only then did he notice she limped slightly on her left leg.

"Wait a moment."

Lucy paused her steps and turned toward him.

"Mr. Green, what is it?"

"Ms. Bailey, you’re not going to wait for Mr. Gill?"

"I’ll go find him."

He nodded, "Alright then."

As soon as Lucy exited the private room, she encountered Elliot Gill approaching, "Were you getting impatient? Such gatherings are quite dull, no need to stay long, let’s go back."
