CHAPTER 221: CHAPTER 221: I’M PREGNANT (PART 25)

Director Finn nodded, "Yes, yesterday, someone from Green Headquarters came to negotiate with me. Several main leaders of our research institute have agreed. This agreement is for each person, and it’s a confidentiality agreement. Green requires this matter not to be disclosed, so you also need to sign a confidentiality agreement."

"No problem." Inside, Lucy Eaton was happy. Green’s acquisition of the ophthalmology institute was definitely Jacob Green’s idea. Why does he want the ophthalmology institute? Obviously for Emma Bennett.

He is intent on helping Emma Bennett rise.

After signing the confidentiality agreement, Lucy Eaton said to Director Finn, "Can I borrow the books in your office bookshelf to read?"

"Of course you can. They’re all ophthalmology books, and also case studies from my patient consultations. You can read them at will, just put them back in their place after reading."

"Thank you, Dr. Zhang."

"Diligent study is a good thing, no need to thank me. I admire students like you who are willing to learn attentively. In today’s society, it’s rare to see young people who can settle down and focus on learning."

At noon, when leaving, Lucy Eaton selected a book from Director Finn’s office bookshelf to take home and read.

She was pregnant, and Elliot Gill did not require her to accompany him at Palmer Group every day.

Even though he could have hired a servant to cook, he insisted she prepare meals for him personally.

After lunch, the only sounds in the living room were the characters in the movie speaking their lines and the rustling of pages being turned.

Elliot Gill leaned on the sofa watching a movie, while she sat by his side reading medical texts.

Their conversations were few, but nonetheless, Elliot Gill did not feel lonely.

His attention was mostly focused on her.

Eventually, Lucy Eaton couldn’t stand it, and turned to ask, "Why do you keep staring at me?"

"You look good."

"..."

She got up, taking the book with her to the bedroom.

Elliot Gill chuckled lightly, "Now, you’re the only one who dares to treat me this way!"

Lucy Eaton closed the door, walked to the bed holding the book, and sat down. She opened her phone and clicked on Jacob Green’s avatar in her messaging app.

Since their marriage was made public, Jacob Green had set his avatar and cover photo to their couple photo.

The cover was a photo of her snuggling in his embrace, and the avatar was her kissing his cheek, with him smiling, looking content.

Exiting the messaging app, she found she couldn’t focus on the book in her hands.

She simply lay down to sleep.

She awoke in pain.

The pain in her arm was sharp and intense.

Glancing at the clock, it was already half past three.

She sat up and called Elliot Gill, and the call was quickly answered.

"Are you hurt?"

"Got shot in the arm, but it’s nothing serious."

"Where are you?"

"At the door."

Lucy Eaton hurriedly hung up the phone, realizing her arm wasn’t actually injured, yet she cradled it because of the pain.

Stepping out of the room, she saw Elliot Gill coming in, his right arm bloody.

Seeing this, Lucy Eaton quickly brought over the medical kit, "Why didn’t you go to the hospital?"

"There’s a doctor at home, why bother going to the hospital."

Upon hearing this, Lucy Eaton helped him to the sofa, "Do you know who did it?"

"I have too many enemies; who knows which one it was."

"I haven’t redeemed you from the black market for long, how come your enemies are so many?" Lucy Eaton took out a syringe, drawing in anesthetic, then placed it on the coffee table, helping him remove his suit jacket and roll up his shirt sleeve.

"I killed those who never treated me like a human."

Pausing while wiping away blood, Lucy Eaton looked up at him, seeing the hate still in Elliot Gill’s eyes.

"Those killed by you surely didn’t expect to die at your hands."

"How could they expect it?" Elliot Gill sneered, "They treated me as merchandise to be sold, they wouldn’t have imagined the person without basic human rights could resist. This is thanks to the memories I’ve regained over the centuries. Without those distant memories, I’m afraid I wouldn’t even be able to enter Palmer’s mansion."

Entering Palmer’s mansion required that Frederick Palmer wasn’t there.

She shivered, "Did you kill Frederick Palmer?"

"What do you think?"

"I don’t know, which is why I’m asking."

"Frederick Palmer’s mother killed my mother and sold me from a young age. Returning was made possible by first finding the Palmer family’s butler, who loved my mom all his life and never remarried. I told him all I knew about the truth. We plotted to kill Frederick Palmer before, but he narrowly survived. As for his death this time, whether you believe it or not, I wasn’t involved."

Lucy Eaton thought of the hardships he’s endured since youth, "The operation performed on Frederick Palmer was done by me. After that operation at the Palmer’s, I was mistaken for Flora Palmer, kidnapped, and buried alive, in Aiden Longfield’s place. Wasn’t it your people?"

"They were mine, but I didn’t know about your abduction. How did you escape?"

"At the time, I was shot, and escaped to the roadside. Luckily, Second Highness passing by saved me." Lucy Eaton picked up the anesthetic syringe, "Turn your head, and I’ll remove the bullet."

Elliot Gill obediently turned his face to the side, "Tia, you’re really lucky."

"Exactly." She mocked herself, "No idea where this lucky streak comes from; I managed to survive until now."

"In the future, I’ll protect you."

"You have many enemies, just safeguard your own life first. If you die, I wouldn’t survive either. Mother Pot and Child Pot coexist, right? After previously almost losing my life, I’m now much more cautious, not so easily killed."

"No matter how skilled, you’re still a woman who needs protection."

"Don’t move." Lucy Eaton extracted the bullet, placed it in the surgical tray, then bandaged him up.

"I’ll be going abroad soon, expect to return in three or four days. If anything happens, call me."

"Alright, eat lighter meals, avoid spicy foods and water contact to prevent inflammation."

Elliot Gill chuckled, "I’ll listen to you. To avoid your arm hurting all the time, I’ll be careful and aim for quick recovery."

Lucy Eaton tidied up the medical kit, returning it to its place.

After Elliot Gill left for over half an hour, the anesthesia wore off, and her previously numb right arm began to throb.

Finished reading the remaining book, and cooked a meal.

Leaning on the sofa scrolling through the news.

Browsing inadvertently to Nathaniel Sutton’s interview on the finance channel.

The headline was quite intriguing.

[Businesswoman Nathaniel Sutton: The Ideal Man Is Actually Him...]

Lucy Eaton clicked on the content, skipping the business questions at the start, focusing on matters related to the headline towards the end.

Reporter asked: [We all know you’re very busy at work and have very little personal time. Have you ever thought about when you’ll get married?]

Nathaniel Sutton: [I’m only 25, not in a rush. I might consider it when I turn 30, but if the right person appears, I’ll seize the opportunity tightly.]

Reporter: [Can you describe your ideal partner?]
