After Rebirth: The Alpha Ex-Husband Is Addicted to Me
Chapter 45: Looks Like Last Night Was Blissful
CHAPTER 45: CHAPTER 45: LOOKS LIKE LAST NIGHT WAS BLISSFUL
"I’ll go with you."
"Okay." Mia opened the lunch box and asked, "When are you and Jacob Green planning to get the marriage certificate?"
"We already got it this morning. Two staff members from the civil affairs bureau came to our house and recorded our application form and documents."
"So from today, you are a married woman."
Lucy said with a smile, "Who says I’m not?"
"Lucy, last night..." Mia couldn’t help but tell her, "John Green came to the hospital to see me."
"What did he want from you?"
Mia recounted last night’s events to her, leaving out an important detail.
But as someone with experience, Lucy picked up on the unusual aspect.
Lucy saw her blushing and couldn’t help but laugh, "Looks like last night was wonderful."
Mia’s face turned even redder, "You know what? After he went abroad, he made a lot of calls and sent letters, but I just found out last night that he remembered my phone number wrong. He called someone else and thought it was my classmate who answered the call. The wrong number meant no one received the mail, so it was returned, and he thought I sent it back."
"If he hadn’t come to find you, you might never have known. It shows that the fate between you two is still ongoing. Your relationship is precious, cherish it."
"I will." Mia’s heart felt like honey, "I really love him, love him so much, that if he beckons, I can’t help but want to rush to him."
"I’m truly happy for you."
After Mia finished lunch, the two of them took Nathaniel Green’s car to Mia’s village.
Upon arrival, they got out of the car, and Nathaniel waited inside.
Seeing her return, the villagers told her, "You’re finally back. If you didn’t come back, your parents would have gone crazy with worry."
Mia smiled at their words, thinking they were worried about her money, perhaps?
She didn’t say much, just stated, "These past days, I was recuperating in the hospital after an accident and didn’t notify my parents to avoid worrying them."
"You silly child, you should have told your parents. They are the closest people you have."
Mia said no more and walked straight towards home.
Her family lived in a two-storey house. However, her brother’s marriage was still undecided.
That’s why her parents wanted to buy a house in town.
The front gate was wide open, and they stepped in together.
Mia’s mother, who was doing laundry in the yard, saw her come in and immediately shouted towards the main rooms, "The little rascal is back!"
Little rascal?
Those words pricked Lucy’s nerves because her grandparents used to call her the same when she was young.
Lucy’s face had already cooled down, but Mia’s expression remained unchanged, as if she was used to it.
A middle-aged man hurried out from the main rooms. Seeing outsiders, Mia’s father, who valued face, didn’t scold but coldly questioned, "Where did you go after the life-and-death ordeal?"
"I was seriously injured and stayed in the hospital."
"What about the money?" He wasn’t concerned about his daughter’s health, only mentioning money, which displeased Lucy, "Uncle, we have the money that Mia nearly gave her life for. You can have all of it, but Mia has just one request."
"What request?"
Mia spoke up, "Go to the community and get me a certificate for moving my household registration. I want to move it."
"Why move your registration? Where to?"
"You don’t need to worry about that."
"Fine, hand over the money, and I’ll get it for you."
Lucy smiled slightly, "No way. Once the community certificate and household registration are in Mia’s hands, you’ll get the money immediately."
"Who are you?"
"I participated in the life-and-death ordeal with Mia; we’re good friends."
Mia’s dad didn’t ask further, "Then wait here, I’ll go to the community secretary to get the certificate."
So, Mia and Lucy sat in the main room waiting, while Mia’s mother watched them from the side, afraid they might leave.
"Honestly tell mom, have you found a boyfriend outside and need to move your registration to get married?"
"I don’t have a boyfriend."
"Then I can’t understand. If not for marriage, why move it at all?"
"Do I need to get married to move?" Mia retorted, "For your son’s house, you didn’t mind risking my life. In this family, I’ve been nothing but a resource to be exploited. The one million I nearly died to earn for you is all yours, as compensation for this worthless life you raised. From now on, we have nothing to do with each other."
Mia’s mother changed her expression instantly, "You’ve gone mad! Are you trying to sever ties with us? Don’t you know not supporting your parents is against the law?!"
"If you put it that way, then I guess you can’t have the million." With Lucy beside her, Mia’s words were unusually firm, "If you want the million, having just the certificate and household registration isn’t enough; you must also write a document detailing why we’re severing ties!"
"You..." Mia’s mother was infuriated, "How did I raise such an ungrateful daughter!"
"Auntie, you’re wrong there," Lucy sneered, "In your family, the heartless ones are the parents. Mia has been incredibly kind to you."
"I’m talking to my daughter; who are you to interfere?!"
"She’s my good friend, so of course she has the right!" Mia threw her words down, "Either you do as I say, or I’ll donate the entire million and you won’t get a penny!"
Mia’s mother had never seen her daughter so assertive and decisive, and remained silent for money’s sake.
More than an hour later, Mia’s father returned.
He handed her the certificate and household registration book.
Though reluctant to write the separation document, he did it, put his fingerprint on it, and while he was writing, Lucy recorded a video.
With that, Mia transferred the million into her father’s account.
Receiving the bank balance notification, Mia’s parents felt at ease.
As the two were about to leave, Mia’s father, uncharacteristically, blocked the door, refusing to let them go and demanding they hand over the household registration, certificate, and video.
"Uncle, I advise you not to block us. Do you know what kind of training we went through in that life-and-death ordeal? Not just one man, even if there were ten or eight, I could still handle you all alone. If you’re sensible, step aside! If you don’t want the news about forcing a daughter to risk her life for money to make headlines, then don’t contact Mia again."
