After Rebirth: The Alpha Ex-Husband Is Addicted to Me
Chapter 59: But I Really Like It
CHAPTER 59: CHAPTER 59: BUT I REALLY LIKE IT
Elijah Sheppard walked forward, "I’ll go call him."
Nathaniel Green stepped in to stop him, "It’s better if I use the walkie-talkie first."
Elijah Sheppard’s eyes narrowed slightly, "Afraid I’ll hear something I shouldn’t on the second floor."
"Can’t rule out that possibility."
He threw his head back and laughed, "Then you better hurry."
Nathaniel Green raised his hand and pressed the walkie-talkie, "Young master, Elijah is here."
Soon, Jacob Green’s voice came from the other side, "Let him come up."
When Elijah Sheppard reached the second floor, the master bedroom door was open, clearly meant for him to enter.
As soon as he stepped inside, he stopped abruptly.
There, Lucy Eaton was being held by Jacob Green, and the two of them were watching a movie.
"You two are really making single people suffer."
"Why are you here at this hour?" Jacob Green glanced at him.
"Isn’t it because your phone is off and I couldn’t reach you!" Elijah Sheppard sat by the bed, huffing, "You used to have your phone on 24/7, now you even turn it off at night."
"Couldn’t you call Nathaniel?"
"I thought it would be better to see you in person, after all, it’s not a small matter." While saying this, Elijah Sheppard pulled out a square black brocade box from his pocket and handed it to Jacob Green, "Take a look at this."
"What’s this?" Jacob Green took it suspiciously.
"I went to the black market in the evening and found this, so I bought it directly."
Jacob Green opened the box, revealing a white jade figurine inside.
It was in the likeness of an ancient woman.
"What’s so special about a piece of jade?"
Elijah Sheppard handed him a specially prepared magnifying glass, "Take a close look at the face of this jade."
Jacob Green did as told, but as soon as the magnifying glass fell on the jade, he and Lucy Eaton were both shocked.
Because the facial features of the jade looked remarkably like Lucy Eaton’s, with over ninety percent resemblance.
"This... how is it possible?"
"As soon as I saw it, I tried calling you, but your phone was off, so I bought it to show you both." Elijah Sheppard continued, "Look at the back, there are a few words, I’ve been pondering them but couldn’t figure out what they mean."
Jacob Green turned the jade over and saw six words: "Spring courtyard moon, shines on fallen flowers."
Lucy Eaton took the jade from his hand, seemingly struck by a force that hit her heart, she looked at the six words and said, "This is an abbreviation, the original sentence should be: ’Farewell dreams linger to Xie’s house, corridors surround the place where two once lingered. Only the spring courtyard moon is affectionate, still shining on the fallen flowers for those who have left.’ This is a poem by Zhang Mi called ’Sending to Someone’, it roughly means entering the house of a woman you miss, the courtyard’s walls are where the two of you used to hang out, yet the one you miss is not here, only the spring moon is the most affectionate, still lighting up the courtyard flowers for the one who left."
Elijah Sheppard’s eyes lit up, he gave a thumbs up, "Sis-in-law, you know all this?"
"I studied it during school, liked it quite a bit, so naturally, I remember it well." Lucy Eaton looked again carefully at the front of the jade, "Did the black market seller mention when this jade is from?"
"The seller said it’s something tomb raiders brought from Country A, claiming it came from the tomb of Pharaoh’s favored concubine, it’s several hundred years old, they didn’t dare sell it in Country A for fear of arrest, so they brought it to our black market to sell."
"How much did it cost?"
Elijah Sheppard held up five fingers, "This much."
"Five hundred thousand?"
"How could it sell for five hundred thousand?" Elijah Sheppard added, "Add another zero."
"I feel like this piece is destined for me, how about you part with it for me?"
"What parting? I bought it because it looks like you and because you like it, so it’s yours."
"Tell me your account number, I’ll transfer the money to you later." She picked up her phone to note it down, but Elijah Sheppard held out his hand to stop her, "No need for money, but you could help me with something instead?"
"What is it?"
"I’m shooting a music video for the title track of my new album and we’re casting the female lead, I think you’d be perfect, Sis-in-law."
Lucy Eaton smiled, "You want me to do a music video to offset this five million, seems like a huge loss for you."
"Why would it be a loss?" Jacob Green spoke up, "You’re worth far more than a top star, if not for the friendship, even fifty million wouldn’t be enough for you to agree to be someone else’s lead in an MV."
Elijah Sheppard chuckled, "Especially for another man, Scorpy, I get it."
"When do we shoot?"
"It depends on your schedule, if you’re free tomorrow, we can start then."
"Alright, then tomorrow."
"Great." Elijah Sheppard got up, "Then I won’t delay you two lovebirds any longer, I’m off."
Lucy Eaton reminded at the door, "Drive carefully."
"Got it." Elijah Sheppard said as he went out.
Jacob Green picked up the remote and pressed a button, the door automatically locked.
"Usually, jade from ancient tombs is heavy with yin energy, and ordinary spirits can’t suppress it. You can keep it at home to look at occasionally, but don’t wear it often."
"But I really like it."
"Then tomorrow I’ll find an expert with deep knowledge for a look, if nothing seems wrong, it’s up to you, if not good, you must listen to me."
Lucy Eaton agreed readily, "Okay."
"Today, I heard James mention on chat that you want to renovate the house in Trelliswood?"
"He told you that?" Lucy Eaton raised an eyebrow.
"Is there anything that can’t be mentioned?"
"I mean, your relationship with him seems to be getting better and better."
"Naturally, he’s not a sibling to you but more so, and I’m your husband, it’s only right that I get closer to him. When I didn’t know you, I relied entirely on his care for you, that’s a significant bond."
"Sounds quite reasonable, I gave him that house opposite Trelliswood, after consulting with his parents, he decided to renovate, but insisted on renovating mine too, refusing to let me pay, and promised to decorate it as I’d like, I left it to him."
"That’s great, I never believed in purely platonic friendships between men and women, but seeing you all, I trust James Foster truly has no other intentions."
"This reminds me of your brother."
"Why?"
"You might want to subtly remind him when you see him. He treats Mia Sweet as a good friend, but Mia has deep romantic feelings for him, he just doesn’t know it. I can’t tell Mia Sweet, it might spoil their friendship, perhaps you could mention it privately."
Jacob Green agreed.
——
The next day, the weather was gloomy from the very morning.
