Chapter 127: Confrontation and Control

(Elena ckwood’s POV)

i“/iAre you crazy?” bI /bconfronted Marcus with fierce defiance when he attempted to restrain me again.

His golden eyes shed dangerously. “Are you more crazy than me?”

Iughed recklessly, the sound echoing off the suite walls. “I’m merely cooperating with your desire to confine

me.”

In a moment of desperate rebellion, I pressed myself against him. His muscles tensed into defensive barriers

beneath my touch.

As I trembled and pressed closer, Marcus’s initial indifference transformed into resistance. He grasped my

hands firmly, holding me in his embrace.

“Stop making trouble, okay?” he pleaded, his voice strained.

I retorted bitterly, “You confined me without asking for reasons. You treat me like livestock by not even

allowing me to wear clothes.”

My voice cracked with emotion. “What right do you have to call my behavior ‘making trouble‘?”

I felt the heavy rise and fall of his chest against mine. Marcus finally released me, his breathing ragged.

“I’ll have someone prepare another bowl of venison broth,” he said hoarsely before leaving without ret

Amber Stone brought hot venison broth and tried to persuade me to drink it. I remained motionless v

closed eyes, refusing to acknowledge her presence.

“Luna, actually Alpha Marcus just wants to see yourpliance, whether genuine or fake,” Amber offered meaningful advice.

She continued carefully, “At least don’t make things difficult for yourself. The more guarded you are against

him, the more unwilling he bes.”

Her voice grew softer. “Conversely, if you act like before, it might be more beneficial for you.”

After delivering this counsel, Amber departed. I stared at the bowl of broth, contemting her words in the suffocating silence.

(God’s POV)

Three days passed without Elena returning to the healing institute. Dr. Edmond Fisher noticed her absence

and rushed to Hugo Ashworth’s office.

“Where is Elena?” Edmond demanded answers. “Is she ill?”

Hugo remained evasive, though he suspected the reason. His jaw tightened as he avoided Edmond’s

searching gaze.

“I’m surprised you can resist caring about her,” Edmond expressed his disbelief.

Hugo replied coldly, “She has an Alpha mate and doesn’t need my concern.”

Edmond leaned forward with interest. “Her mating bond is failing and severance seems imminent. There might be opportunities to swing the hoe well to topple any wall.”

“What about the one guarding the wall?” Hugo countered.

Edmond shrugged. “bIf /bthe wall copsed, guarding it would be meaningless.”

After Edmond left, Hugo checked his phone. Elena hadn’t replied to his messages from three days ago.

(Elena ckwood’s POV)

Meanwhile, I dined alone in the Great Hall. I was no longer confined, and Marcus had Amber Stone provide me with entirely new clothing while disposing of my old garments.

My phone remained confiscated, cutting me off from the outside world.

When Marcus returned before noon, he found me watching television on the sofa. Aedy yed on screen, but I didn’tugh.

Upon seeing him, I addressed him formally. “Alpha.”

He noticed my transformation immediately. Instead of my usual light, modest colors, I wore a dark green

velvet slip dress.

The fabric made me appear both charming and sensual. When he inquired about lunch, Amber reported that my appetite had improved over the past two days.

As Marcus prepared to return to the bedroom, I suddenly reached out. My fingers grasped his sleeve, stopping him in his tracks.

“When can I return to the institute?” I asked, exining my concern about prolonged absence from work.

i“/iAre you so eager to return?” he questioned, his voice guarded.

I rified my rtionship with Hugo carefully. “Professor Ashworth and I are merely colleagues with

romantic involvement you suspect.”

My voice grew steadier. “I admitted ito /ilying to Amber Stone about living with Hugo. The deception wasn’t

directed at you.”

In response to my honesty, he asked unexpectedly, “Do you want to attend an auction?”

ne

That evening, Marcus brought me to the Moonstone Auction House. While Amber Stone took her seat in the Elite Viewing Gallery, he escorted me to the exclusive Shadow Veil Private Box.

These private chambers were equipped with screens linked to the main auction disy. Distinguished pack leaders could observe all items and prices from their secluded vantage point.

In the Second Floor Corridor, we encountered the Head of Howell Family and his mate. Mrs. Howell noticed my beauty and graceful demeanor as I politely nodded in acknowledgment.

My attention was drawn to a familiar figure among the well–dressed pack members. Hugo Ashworth stood near the elevator, impably groomed in formal attire.

He was surrounded by other wealthy werewolves engaged in animated conversation. When our beyes /bmet, Hugo looked at me briefly before discretely averting his gaze.

He approached our group with measured steps. The Head of Howell Family expressed surprise bat /bseeing him.

*Professor Ashworth! I didn’t expect to see you at the auction. You usually show ino /iinterest in such social

events.”

Hugo replied casually, “Just for fun tonight.”

He then addressed Marcus directly. “I haven’t had the opportunity to visit you properly during your extended

stay in Riverside City.”

The tension escted when Hugo asked me directly, “Healer Elena, don’t iyou /in to return to the institute?”

I lowered my eyes carefully. “I’ll return once my health improves.”

Diana inquired about my condition with concern. I smiled weakly and nodded in response.

Hugo pressed further, his voice sharp. “Is it truly due to illness, or some other reason?”

Sensing the underlying conflict, Sebastian and Diana found an excuse to leave. The atmosphere grew thick

with unspoken tension.

Marcusughed coldly. “Professor Ashworth seems very concerned about my Luna?”

Hugo frowned, justifying his concern. “Given the rtionship between my grandfather and Elena, it’s

necessary.”

Marcus possessively wrapped his arm around my waist. “Rest assured with your grandfather – I can take

good care of my mate.”

To prevent Hugo from escting the conflict with Marcus ion /imy behalf, I interrupted quickly.

“Professor Ashworth, the auction is about to begin. I’ll go in with my Alpha first.”

My deliberate use of “my Alpha” stirred something unusual in Marcus’s heart. After Hugo acknow ed and departed toward his own box, Marcus pulled me into our Shadow Veil Private Box.

Without warning, he grasped my wrist and drew me into his embrace. His substantial hand rested on the

back of my neck as he lowered his head.

His distinguished lips and nose were mere inches from mine. In a low, intense voice, he demanded, “Who

taught you to call me that?”
