Chapter 220: Tonight It’s Just the Two of Us

Chapter 220: Tonight It’s Just the Two of Us

    (Elena’s POV)

As security escorted Sophia Rivers away, I noticed her eyes–filled not with fear or shame, but

pure unwillingness. The look of someone who’d never tasted defeat suddenly forced to

    swallow it whole.

I calmly withdrew my gaze, refusing to give her the satisfaction of my attention.

“I didn’t expect that paper was originally yours,” Professor Andrew Kelly approached me, his voice heavy with regret. “It’s all my fault for believing her words without investigating

    properly.”

He sighed deeply, his shoulders slumping slightly.

“If you weren’t Professor Theodore Ashworth’s student, I would really want to take you back to Moonridge Territory with me.”

I shook my head, feeling ufortable with his praise. “That paper was considered absurd by many at the time. Even I wasn’t confident about it.”

My fingers fidgeted with the edge of myb coat. “But it was you who allowed that ‘absurd theory‘ to be witnessed and validated in werewolf brain medicine. I still have much to learn

    from you.”

Professor Kellyughed heartily, the sound echoing in the now–empty conference chamber. “I really want to ept you as my student.”

“Recruiting my student right in front of me?” Professor Theodore Ashworth’s voice came from behind us. “That’s not appropriate, Andrew.”

He approached with measured steps, his eyes twinkling with amusement despite his stern

    tone.

Professor Kelly clutched his chest dramatically. “It’s a genuine regret of mine, missing out on such talent.”

“You never asked,” Professor Ashworth retorted, crossing his arms.

I smiled awkwardly as they continued their good–natured argument. The truth was, I’d never

    offered an exnation either.

After leaving the conference chamber with Professor Ashworth, he noticed my distant

    expression.

“Thinking about how to deal with Sophia Rivers?” he asked perceptively.

I blinked, surprised by his insight.

“Don’t worry about seeing me off,” he said kindly. “Go handle your business.”

I nodded gratefully and said goodbye, my mind already racing ahead to my next steps.

Once outside the institute, I pulled out my phone and called Rachel Thompson.

“Hello?” Her voice was thick with sleep.

“Did I wake you?” I asked, feeling guilty.

“It’s fine,” she assured me, stifling a yawn. “I have tomorrow off anyway.”

I got straight to the point. “I need you to send over the evidence we gathered. It’s time to use

    it.”

    (Marcus’s POV)

“Sophia Rivers has been detained, Alpha,” my Elite Guard reported, standing at attention in the hotel suite’s living room.

I remained unmoved by this news, merely nodding in acknowledgment.

Amber Stone, seated across from me, raised her eyebrows in surprise. “She’s actually been detained? I thought she was like an indestructible cockroach.”

The Elite Guard shifted his weight. “She gave the nanomedicine research results to Nn Consortium, only to be trapped by Luna Elena.”

My eyelids twitched slightly. I’d known Elena wouldn’t let this matter rest.

“Felix Xavier is at Nn Consortium,” Amber revealed, checking her tablet. “He goes by the name Chavez and currently serves as a board member there.”

She looked up at me. “This confirms Sophia indeed has connections with Felix Xavier.”

I tapped my fingers rhythmically on the table, considering this information. “Felix Xavier has probably been the person behind Sophia all these years.”

“Have someone meet with Deputy Minister Harrison,” I instructed Amber. “Ask him to ry a message to the director.”

    (Elena’s POV)

I stopped at the entrance, overhearing their conversation. When Amber turned and saw me, she nodded respectfully.

“Luna,” she acknowledged before slipping past me.

Marcus looked toward me, his golden eyes unreadable. I said nothing, merely stepping aside slightly to let Amber and the Elite Guard pass.

After they left, with Secretary and Alexander ckwood both absent, therge suite fell silent. Only Marcus and I remained.

He leisurely loosened his cufflinks, the soft click echoing in the quiet room.

“Tonight it’s just the two of us,” he remarked casually.

My steps faltered as I turned to look at him. What did he mean by reminding me we were alone together?

The Alpha gazed at my face for a long moment, his expression softening almost imperceptibly.

“Should we go out for dinner, or shall I cook?” he finally added.

I was stunned for several seconds, not expecting such a mundane questioni. /iI looked away, unable to hold his intense gaze.

“Let’s go out to eat,” I suggested, my voice steadier than I felt.

    He smiled faintly and agreed.
