    Chapter 223: Her Retribution?

    (Elena’s POV)

I walked to the terrace with my phone pressed to my ear. “What did you say?”

Rachel Thompson’s voice came through in a hushed whisper. She was clearly hiding in a

corner, almost covering the microphone with her hand.

“Sophia Rivers has been sent to the hospital for emergency treatment by the Southern

Territory Pack Enforcement Division,” she said urgently. “She suffered a ruptured spleen with

massive bleeding and a concussion. She was just resuscitated and is now in the intensive healing ward.”

I gripped the terrace railing, processing this unexpected information.

“Pack enforcement officers are guarding the ward,” Rachel continued. “When I went in, I

noticed she was indeed severely injured, even suffering from incontinence. What’s strange is

that she was supposed to be detained. How could this have happened?”

I frowned, unsure of the situation myself. This could be another of Sophia’s schemes–a desperate ploy to get bail. But self–inflicted ns that involved sending oneself to the emergency healing bay were rare in the werewolf world. The injuries Rachel described

sounded far too severe to be self–inflicted.

“Could this be her retribution?” Rachel suddenly eximed, her voice rising slightly before

she caught herself. “Remember how she did the same thing to your foster brother David? And now it’s happened to her–perhaps this is what she deserves.”

I was slightly stunned by Rachel’s words. Was it really just desserts? The symmetry was

undeniable–David had been beaten in detention under Sophia’s orchestration, and now she

    had suffered the same fate.

But I didn’t believe this was merely an ident. The timing was too coincidental.

After ending the call, I noticed Mrs. Harrisoning out onto the terraceb, /bwrapped bin /ban

elegant shawl against the evening chill.

“Are you leaving, dear?b” /bshe asked, her eyes kind but perceptive.

I nodded and offered a polite smile. “Yes. Thank you for your hospitality today.”

Mrs. Harrison took my hand in hers, her grip warm and reassuring. “You’re wee toe every day if you wish,” she said with a genuine smile.

    (Sophia’s POV)

When I woke up, I couldn’t move my body. My left ear seemed blocked, unable to hear anything. Pain radiated through every inch of my being.

“What’s wrong with my ear?” I asked, struggling to get up despite the agony shooting through

    my torso.

A pack nurse rushed over and gently but firmly held me down. “Miss Rivers, you can’t get up

    yet!”

Panic surged through me. I grabbed the nurse’s arm with surprising strength, my fingers digging into her flesh.

“Why can’t I hear with one ear!” I screamed hysterically, my voice cracking with desperation.

My emotions spiraled out of control. The pack enforcement officers stationed outside rushed in upon hearing themotion and quickly separated me from the terrified nurse.

“I can’t hear with my ear! It’s all their fault, they did it on purpose-” I screamed, feeling the veins in my neck bulging. My entire face flushed red with exertion and rage.

“Officer, they had premeditation! There must be someone behind them giving orders!” I was beyond rational thought now, grasping at any exnation. “It must be Elena, yes, it must be

    her!”

The officers exchanged nces before one stepped forward with a calming gesture.

“You need to calm down first,” he said firmly. “Do you have any other pack members or family? We can allow your family toe and apany you now.”

At the mention of family members, a cold glint shed in my eyes. I had no real family to

speak of. But then I thought of someone and bit my lip.

“Yes!” I said, a desperate hope kindling within me.

    (Elena’s POV)

I returned to the hotel and stopped in front of Marcus’s bedroom door. My hand hovered over the handle as I considered my suspicions. Although I didn’t really think it was him, but…

The door suddenly opened, and Secretary stood there, looking slightly surprised to see me.

I peered past him into the room. Marcus sat on the sofa wearing a suit jacket, with

documents spread across his crossed knees. His shirt cor was unbuttoned, open to the

chest. The light filtering through the white curtains behind him cast his face in a soft glow.

Secretary stepped aside to let me in. Marcus closed the documents in his hands and looked

    up at me.

“Is there something?” he asked, his voice low and hoarse.

I pressed my lips together, gathering my thoughts before speaking. “Was Sophia being sent to the intensive healing ward your doing?”

He paused, lowered his eyelids, and asked, “Do you hope it was me?”

I didn’t answer. The question hung in the air between us, loaded with implications.

Marcus leaned back in his chair and smiled faintly. “It wasn’t me.”

I studied his face carefully but couldn’t detect anything unusual in his expression. As I turned

to leave, he called out to me.

“If it were me, what would you do?”

My steps faltered. I turned back to face him, my expression neutral.

“Nothing would happen,” I said simply.

    (Sophia’s POV)

The next day, Iy in my hospital bed, waiting anxiously for Hazel Green’s phone call. The

pack enforcement officers took turns guarding the intensive healing ward, and in my current

state, I didn’t even have a chance to escape.

I could only ce my hopes on Hazel. She had to help me–she owed me that much after

    everything I’d done for her.

Soon, another enforcement officer approached my bed. Hope immediately lit up in my eyes.

    “Has shee?” I asked eagerly.

The officer’s expression remained professionally neutral. “Miss Rivers, are you sure she’s

your pack member? We sent someone to ask, and she said she has no pack rtionship with

    you whatsoever.”

These wordspletely extinguished my hope. The betrayal cut deeper than any physical

    wound.

“How is that possible…” I murmured, my voice barely audible. “She clearly said she would

    help me…”
