Chapter 323 323: Meeting.
The next day, while the police continued looking out for the killers who handled the trafficking racket, Leo finished dealing with his work when June came to remind him about the lunch engagement. Leo then reminded his CEO and CFO about heading out lest they came looking for him regarding something.
The condition of the Cardinal Group was stable and even better, they were constantly expanding and the money was flowing in and profits were increasing with every passing day. The employees were highly motivated and none of them wanted to leave. The first reason was the perks and the work environment they had here, and the second was the fact how they were contract bound to keep everything that happened inside the office to be a secret, if they were found leaking the information, the company will come after them.
This was something that they had to manage even if they wished to move out and find another job, that was their moral right and they were free to do that. With the two ladies at the helm and Leo as the principle the company was safe.
Leo went to meet Matilda Luger, and he only brought Kyle with him. He even left behind June, it wasn't that he was afraid of a confrontation but he was actually looking for Matilda to try and attack him or something like that. Yes, he was baiting her and that was his intention. That woman would not sit back and watch him live peacefully, since that was the case, it was only right to get rid of her.
Leo was cruel to his enemies and he wouldn't mind putting himself at the risk to have a chance to handle his enemies. The car drove through the traffic, and Kyle asked, "Sir, you didn't let me bring in any weapon, what do you think would happen?"
Leo smiled and replied, "Nothing to worry about. The most that could happen is that she could have some of her men try to attack us, or poison my drink. When I go in, you stay out, I will keep my phone connected with you. Don't record it, and if you hear a fight break out, then call the police. Tell them I gave you instructions if I am not out by a specific time, you would call them suspecting that I have been taken captive."
Kyle was surprised and asked, "Sir, what if they really did attack you?"
Leo smiled and said, "I do wish that they attack me."
The guard raised his brow and asked, "Sir, pardon me, but does madam know about your intention of baiting Matilda Luger?"
Leo nodded and said, "She does, but not that I want to bait Matilda Luger."
Kyle sighed and said, "Sir, try not to get beaten, Young Miss or Madam, both won't like it."
Leo chuckled he knew that Kyle wanted him to be safe, because if he got injured then the two ladies would only grill him for pushing it too far with that vicious woman. However, he had to do this to take out the threat to his family.
They reached the building where the office of the Luger group was located. Leo got down from the car and fastened the buttons of his coat as he walked up to the door, the guard on the door pulled it open and Leo nodded to him with a smile and said, "Thanks."
The guard smiled back, not many people were so kind to him.
Leo was feeling rather joyful when he moved ahead, because whenever he was up to something cunning he felt as if he was a naughty child who was going to prank someone. However, things would not be so easy. He arrived at the reception and said, "Hello, my name is Leo Cardinal, I have a lunch appointment with Miss Luger."
The receptionist heard this and said, "Please wait a moment, Sir. I have to confirm this."
Leo nodded as he began to look around. He spotted several people on the ground floor, and many of them were looking at him in a sneaky manner. He acted as if it was not a big deal but he was sure that these were the people that Matilda had arranged for the security.
Suddenly, the lady behind the reception said, "Sir, You can go up."
Leo nodded to her and walked to the elevator, before he turned around and reached the reception once more as he asked, "I forgot to ask, which floor am I supposed to go to."
The lady replied with a smile, "Thirteenth floor sir, that is where Madam is waiting for you."
Leo nodded and quickly came to the elevator, as he pressed the button to go to the corresponding floor, two men walked inside the elevator and stood in front of him with their backs facing him. Leo didn't mind this, he simply took out his mobile and checked a few things before he dialed Kyle's phone and placed his mobile back inside his coat.
The elevator was quick and it made a ding noise when they reached the floor. Leo followed the two men walking out of the elevator, and he found the place to be filled with nothing, but in the center there was a big couch. The rest of the floor was vacant apart from pristine white floor.
On the couch he spotted Matilda Luger sitting with a book in her hand, and around her stood at least twenty buffed men, all of them had a defensive stance, and Leo almost chuckled thinking how scared the lady was. He approached the couch and Matilda lifted her head up to look at him.
The two of them exchanged gazes and stayed rather calm, before Leo said, "Good afternoon, Lady Luger, that you four meeting me at such a short notice."
Matilda shook her head and replied, "I always looked forward to meet you again, Master Cardinal, so what can I do for you?"
Leo smiled and replied, "All should be cleared in good time. Please tell me, how is your jaw recovering."
He sat down after asking that deliberate question. However, his words only caused Matilda to glare at him with her killing intention almost causing the god of death to manifest behind her.
The lady knew that Leo didn't have a good intention when he came over. She calmed her mind, and asked, "So, what do I owe this pleasure of hosting you to?"
Leo sighed and turned his head to look through one of the windows on the side, and said, "Madam Luger, you are a strong person, and I admit that we have our differences. You wish to destroy me and I am not very different from you. I also wish to see you perish. However, I would appreciate that you don't involve other people in it. Things get complicated when you do that. Although it is not hard to deal with such flimsy things, but it is bad for business. You saw how the city came to a stop and in the two days, I made a loss of several millions. What do you say?"
Matilda Luger raised her brow and asked, "Are you here to ask me for a truce?"
Leo shook his head and replied, "You misunderstand. I am asking you not for a truce, but for a simple and blunt exchange, that is if you have the guts to."
Matilda frowned, she didn't like it when Leo questioned her guts. After thinking for a bit she asked, "What do you suggest that we do here? I cannot go and have someone kill you in the broad daylight and have your innards fed to my dogs, can I?"
Leo smiled and then he leaned forward, his movement caused Matilda to flinch, she would be denying that she didn't fear him. He was one of her biggest psychological ghosts. Leo looked in her eyes and spoke with a smirk, "To be honest, I love this fear in your movements when I am around if only that could deter you from treading down the path of your doom. Well, since you have suggested this. How about we both select a rather desolate place and arrange a game of death?"
Matilda was shocked by the second half of the statement. It was not only her, but even the men standing behind her looked at Leo as if he was a monster.
Matilda Luger asked curiously with a hint of surprise laced in her voice, "What kind of death game?"
Leo leaned back on the couch and spread his hands as he said, "A game where we pick ten men each and form teams. These two teams will go to a distant place which is not monitored by the government, similar to the Dead Sea. Then we will hold a twenty four hour long hunt. The one who kills the other team is a winner and that's all. The simplest solution of dissolving this knot between us."
The lady frowned and asked, "Killing the ten men, what would that signify? My grudge is with you, and not your men."
Leo smiled and replied, "These teams will have a captain, that would be us. We will lead the teams and the moment one of us dies, that would be the end of the grudge."
Matilda was shocked, she didn't expect Leo to be so daring, but then thinking about how he handled her in the past, this was still within the range of things he would do. She said, "Fine, we can choose anyone for the game, and we can procure all the equipment we want."
Leo chuckled and replied, "Madam Luger, is that even something that you have to say? Your family is a stakeholder in the biggest weapon company of the Swastika Country. You will definitely bring whatever you can haul and what you cannot haul. I expect you to cheat. Well that settles it all. I will see you in a week, what say?"
Matilda thought for a bit and nodded, "Done. See you in seven days."
Like that the meeting came to an end.
