Eternal Claim 831
Chapter 831 Unsuallt Colored Gemstones
bHayley’s /bPOV:
Truman arched a brow, a yful grin spreading across his face. “If even Mr. Southwell defers to you, what’s left for me to prove? I’d rather join you and sample that renowned coffee.”
As we turned to leave, a distinguished elderly man with silver hair tied neatly back and dressed in a tailored tailcoat emerged from the crowd. He approached with measured inquired politely, “Ms. Carson, mind if I join you for coffee?”

Hera’s senses immediately identified him–the Alpha of the Newmoon Pack and CEO of Rufus International Corporation, Rufus Covington.
I was still considering his request when Baxter interjected enthusiastically, “Mr. Covington is also a formidable chess yer. This is a perfect opportunity for our master to showcase her skill.”
Rufus offered me a respectful nod, his eyes alight with anticipation as he fell into Baxter.

Truman caught my eye with a subtle, knowing nce–a silent signal that our objective was all but achieved, and sess was within reach.
I responded with a faint, confident smile.
Baxter was known for two great passions–chess and coffee. The beans he reserved for esteemed guests were exquisitely rare, valued at a small fortune per pound.
When they arrived at his ce, he personally prepared the coffee.
I epted the coffee cup, took a slow sip, and met Baxter’s confident yet eager gaze. A faint smile touched my lips as I praised, “Excellent. It’s smooth on the pte, has a subtly sweet aftertaste, and a lingering aroma. This is truly a premium blend.”
Baxter gave a slight, respectful nod. “Coming from you, such praise carries weight. By the way, when did you arrive in our pack? Why didn’t you seek me out for a game of chess?”
I paused briefly, then replied with a lightugh, “I’ve been traveling between packs these past few years and got so caught up with certain matters. It wasn’t that I didn’t want to find you–it’s just that you’ve been so reclusive, making yourself rather hard to track down.”
He chuckled heartily. “Ah, that would be because of the Aetherfall Gambit. I vowed not to see you again until I’d devised a winning strategy. Yet, it seems you remain perpetually steps ahead.”
His tone was deeply respectful, entirely devoid of the disdain others often showed me for being a “low–ranking Omega.”
He had always held in high regard anyone who surpassed him in chess.
Seeing an elder treat me with the level of deference typically reserved for a high–ranking Alpha, excessively polite and almost reverent, I feigned annoyance and said, “Alright, that’s enough. If you keep being this formal and deferential with me, I’ll never y chess with you again.
“We agreed. I can be your master, but we’ve got to keep things casual and equal, like friends. Otherwise, I’m walking away.”
“Fine, fine! Then I’ll just call you Hayley. You’re really not arrogant at all!” Baxter’s eyes held even greater admiration as he looked at me.
“How about a few rounds of chess? And you can teach me a few more moves?”
“Sure,” I agreed readily.
Rufus watched us with a warm smile, remarking, “I never would have guessed a young Omega like you
could be such a master of chess, Ms. Carson.”
After he spoke, Truman fixed his deep, intense gaze on me.
I didn’t respond, focusing instead on the game.
About half an hourter, Baxter started to feel tired, and the gathering ended so he could rest.
I stayed behind and called out to Rufus.
“Mr. Covington, can we have a little chat?”
He nodded readily. “Of course!”
Rufus was straightforward by nature and seemed to sense I had another purpose.
Once we sat down, he came right to the point. “Please speak freely, Ms. Carson. In chess, as in life, I trust your character. I’ll hold nothing back from you.
“Of course, I also have a selfish desire to befriend you and perhaps y a few more games in the future,” he added.
“That won’t be a problem,” I assured him.
Truman exchanged a nce with me, then took the lead. “We’d like to know the origin of the unusually colored gemstone in your collection, Mr. Covington.”
A flicker of surprise crossed Rufus‘ eyes before he averted his gaze. “That gem has been in bmy /bpossession since it first appeared. Why does its origin matter?”
Seeing his tension, I grew serious. “Within this month, I’ve acquired two simrly unusual gemstones.
“I suspect these abnormal colors are the result of radiation deliberately produced by an extremist organization.”
