My whole body stiffened, and I hurriedly struggled free from Dennis’s embrace.

    “I’m already married.”

bI /bcould feel my eyes were full of panic, and waves of rejection surged out like tide I wanted to hide it but couldn’t conceal it at all.

Dennis’s gaze was heavy, his Adam’s apple moving slightly. After a long time, finally withdrew his hands, his eyes full of loneliness.

“Can we still be friends in the future?”

I took a deep breath to calm myself, looked at him, and said softly: “Mm… we’d not just friends, we’re also family.”

    “I’ll attend your engagement.”

“Good, I’ll wait for you toe.” He forced a slight curve to his lips, but the smile was so faint it was almost invisible.

“If there’s nothing else, I’ll go first.”

I walked back through the snow, hearing the clear and cold sound of snowyers being crushed under my feet.

I didn’t look back, but I knew he stood by the car the whole time, watching my figure gradually disappear.

At that moment, I felt swallowed by the vast snow.

At Silver Moon Pack’s administrative building, Hazel had been waiting for Dennis to return but he never came, making her feel strange. She called him: “Sir, where are you now?”

Dennis’s voice carried a chill: “I’m handling business outside. I won’t be back today.”

“But there’s still a dinner tonight-”

    “Cancel it.”

Hazel had worked by his side for over ten years – just from his tone, she knew something was wrong with him today.

“If you have any troubles, please don’t keep them bottled up. You can tell me, won’t tell anyone else.”

    Troubles…

Dennisughed lowly on the other end of the phone, with a hint of self–mockery: “You’re overthinking. I’m fine, just focus on your work.”

After saying this, he hung up and couldn’t help coughing a few times.

Although the illness was cured, the aftereffects remained, and no one knew if would recur.

That day, he didn’t go back. Instead, he parked his car where he could see my residence and sat in the car the whole time, watching that window.

I returned home with very mixed feelings. As soon as I opened the door, I smelled delicious food from the kitchen.

Ferris came out of the dining room: “Where did you go?”

“Just went for a walk.” I lied.

bHe /bdidn’t ask more, just said: “We can eat now.”

After dinner, I made a phone call, theny on the sofa to rest. Suddenly, a tall figure blocked the light.

I frowned slightly and opened my eyes to see Ferris standing there.

    “Is there something?”

“Before dinner, were you really just taking a walk?” He looked at me and asked.
