Chapter b315 /b

    The ring…

When Ferris and I got engaged, his secretary had casually picked out the diamond ring and handed it to ollime. /li/ol

I was so naive back then, thinking it was a symbol of our love. I was thrilled for the longest time.

Looking back now, I realize how foolish I’d been.

“Just an ordinary diamond ring,” I replied tly.

Edward sneered coldly: “Ferris never liked you back then. Why would he put any effort into it? It’s only now that he’s blind that he pays you more attention.”

Throughout the ride, Edward and Helena’s snide remarks never ceased.

They seemed to forget that when Ferris was healthy, they’d all been desperate to curry favor with him.

Finally, after we finished shopping and were about to head home separately, Father suddenly pulled me aside.

“I don’t mean to sound harsh,” he said, lowering his voice but maintaining that condescending coldnes “but Ferris is blind now–he’s useless. The only people you can rely on are us. Nigel and Helena are both far superior to you.”

I took a deep breath and cut through his rambling: “Father, just say what you mean.”

Edward dropped all pretense: “In the Vargan household, you’d better defer to Helena. She may be marrying Dennis, but Dennis is the one running things now. You should treat her with absolute respect.”

Unable to hold back, I asked directly: “Between Helena and me, who is actually your biological daughter?”

Edward’s face went pale, panic shing in his eyes as if he thought I’d discovered something.

I pressed further: “Why am I, your biological daughter, worth less than a stepdaughter? If you hate me this much, why did you let me be born in the first ceb?/b”

His tense nerves finally rxed slightly as he let out a cold, mockingugh: “If it weren’t for your mother,

I never would have wanted you. Your birth was a mistake from the very beginning,”

I’d heard simr words countless times and thought grown numb to them. But in that instant, my heart still ached sharply.”

Perhaps I’d always desperately wanted what others had even just a tiny bit of fatherly love.

Fighting back the burning in my throat, I looked at him coldly: “If I could choose, I wouldn’t want to he your daughter either.”

With that, I turned and walked away quickly.

Behind me, Edward watched my retreating figure, his hands slowly clenching into fists.

Helena approached him then, asking curiously: “Dad, what were you two talking about?“.

Edward collected himself, the coldness in his eyes melting into the warmth he reserved for her: “Nothing important.”

But Helena couldn’t help asking: “Dad, do you not like Aurora?”

She knew perfectly well that no father in the world should hate his own biological daughter.

Yet Edward said coldly: “Don’t mention her.”

Helena seemed to understand something from his tone and didn’t press further.

    Vargan Family Estate.

I arrived first. As soon as I stepped out of the car, I spotted Dennis standing nearby.

His tall frame carried an unhealthy pallor, but his eyes held the same deep gentleness as Ferris’s.

“Did you get everything? She didn’t give you a hard time, did she?” He walked over to me.

I was slightly taken aback, then shook my head: “No. Helena and her father are in the car behind us.”

Since Helena was going to be Dennis’s wife, I naturally wouldn’t badmouth her in front of him.

When Dennis heard that Helena hadn’t returned with me, his expression darkened and he stepped closer.

He lowered his voiceb: /b“If you’re having second thoughts, you can still tell me.”

    My heart skipped a beat.

His “second thoughts” meant–if I was willing, he would immediately break off his engagement with

    Helena.

I didn’t dare think too deeply about it and quickly shook my head: “I don’t regret anything. You and Helena should be happy together. She’s quite aplished…”

Before I could finish, Dennis’s tall frame suddenly swayed and he copsed toward me.

Panicked, I reached out to catch him: “What’s wrong?”

The corners of his eyes were red, his eyelids heavy: “My old condition is acting up again… Could you support me for a while?”

“Of course.” Without thinking, I set down my bags and carefully steadied him.

He leaned against my shoulder, his familiar scent surrounding me. He seemed to finally rx a little.

    “Do you

remember?” His voice was as soft as a whisper “When I used to carry you home, you said… that when you grew up, you’d definitely marry me.”
