Nigel’s face flushed red again from my retort, raising his hand to strike me.

But he suddenly remembered Ferris’s warning from days ago. His hand froze mid–air, and he could only reluctantly lower it.

“No matter what, we share the same blood. You can’t just watch our family property fall into outsiders‘ hands,” he said through gritted teeth,

I sneered: “Don’t worry, I’ll handle my family’s affairs, but it has nothing to do with you. You’re not worthy of being an heir.”

Someone who handed over the foundation built by ancestors and still acted self–righteously–such a

person wasn’t even worthy of being human.

After saying this, I turned and left Nigel behind.

Behind me came his shocked gaze, as if he couldn’t believe his once “weak sister” would treat him this

    way.

“I’m not worthy of being an heir? Who is then? You? Ridiculous. What business can a woman do?” Nigel

muttered to himself, his voice full of contempt.

A sudden cough sounded from behind him.

I stopped and turned back to see Ethan and Daniel standing side by side, their tall figures carrying

invisible pressure that made the air heavy.

Nigel was stunned, then greeted them with a fawning tone.

Ethan couldn’t be bothered with such trash, but Daniel nodded slightly and asked: “Helena’s engagement party–why aren’t you going in?”

“I’ll go in right now.” Nigel smiled obsequiously, hurrying forward while asking them to go ahead.

I watched from afar, feeling a chill in my heart.

Once, the family’s best resources had favored these people, while Nigel… was always just a little follower trailing behind.

Ethan yawned carelessly: “The Edwards family genes aren’t that had How did they produce such trash?”

Daniel chuckled: “Maybe… not his seed.”

Ethan was stunned, thenughed and changed the subject.

    At the engagement banquet.

After the ceremony ended, it was time for toasts.

Ferris suddenly handed me a box.

    I was puzzled: “What’s this?”

“From father. Open it and see.”

Hopened the box to reveal a luxurious, exquisite antique jade ne with a warm texture–clearly very

    valuable.

My heart tightened, and I immediately closed it: “I can’t ept this. Return it to him.”

“He’s already left. Can’t return it.” Ferris’s voice was gentle but carried a hint of calction. “Just keep it for him. When hees next time, you can return it personally.”

August’s whereabouts were mysterious. The next meeting… would probably have to wait until Dennis’s wedding.

I fell silent, finally nodding: “Then I’ll keep it here for now.”

Looking at him, I suddenly blurted out: “You were gone so long–was there something wrong?”

After saying this, I was stunned–I was starting to care about his life again, just like before.

The corners of Ferris’s mouth curved slightly: “Want to know?”

My heart tightened, and I immediately looked away: “No.”

He chuckled softly without pursuing it further.

Just then, Dennis and Helena approached to toast us.

Dennis’s eyes reflected the image of Ferris and me side by side, his expression subtle, as if something had been stirred.

Helena spoke first with a smile: “Thank you for attending the engagement ceremony.”

For Ferris’s convenience, she brought the wine ss to his hand–he only needed to reach out to take it.

But Ferris didn’t take it. Instead, he grasped my hand firmly, the warmth of his palm making my heart

    tremble.

“Aurora and I don’t drink. Go toast others.”

Helena’s expression stiffened, and she instinctively looked at Dennis.

Dennis was silent for a moment, then took the ss and handed it to Helena: “They won’t drink. We will.”

“Alright.” Helena forced a smile and drank it down.

The wine she couldn’t finish was all consumed by Dennis in one gulp.

Watching this couple, plex feelings suddenly arose in my heart–they seemed intimate but each appeared to have unspoken thoughts.

The engagement banquet continued until afternoon.

Dennis had drunk too much consecutively. Hazel beside him looked worried: “Drink less. Your body can’t

    handle it.”

Dennis used to be most careful about his health, but since returning to Silver Moon Pack, he’d been increasingly careless with his body.

    It pained her to watch.

“It’s fine, today’s an exception.” Dennisforted her gently.

Hazel nodded, wanting to say more when a hand pulled her away.

“Hazel, go entertain the guests. I’ll take Dennis back to his room to rest.” Helena, in high heels, supported the drunk Dennis andmanded.

Since they were engaged, Helena was Dennis’s future mate. Hazel had to leave.

Helena called servants to help escort Dennis back, her heart beating fast.
