bI /bhadn’t expected that this little girl was actually his nieceb. /b
I exined briefly: “She fell into the bhot /bspring pool. I happened to see it and pulled her out.”
Evan paused, bhis /btone blow /bbut sincereb: /bb“/bb…/bThank you.”
“Don’t mention it.” I waved my hand, b“/bYou should help her change into dry clothes first, so she doesn’t catch cold.”
Evan noddedb, /blooking at me as if he wanted to say something. But his little niece in his arms was crying heartbreakingly, her whole body trembling–clearly
terrified.
He had to temporarily put aside those words, softlyforting the child in his arms while nodding at me, then quickly carrying her toward the elevator.
I stood there and watched for a moment. Seeing that the situation was handled, I turned and went to the massage areab, /bpreparing to continue enjoying this rare
moment of rxation.
I changed into a bathrobe and entered the massage areab, /bwhere the therapist was already waiting for me.
Iy on thefortable bed, closed my eyes, and tried to rx, pushing this series of unexpected events to the bback /bof my mind.
However, the peace didn’tst long.
“Well, if it isn’t Dr. Windsorb?/bb” /b
A familiar, deliberately high–pitched female voice rang out outside the room, carrying mockery and fake friendlinessb. /b
I opened my eyes and turned to look. There was Ashley standing at the doorway, wearing the hotel’s custom silk bathrobe, her makeup perfectly done, holding ss of iced lemon water and smiling with utter insincerity.
‘What a coincidence.” She walked in, looking around, “Did youe aloneb?/b”
I nced at her indifferently, my tone calm: “Yes, alone. Is there a problem with that?”
She smiled and sat on the empty massage chair next to me.
‘Aren’t you lonelying alone? I came with Ferris. He’s been very busy with worktely, but he still made time to apany me.”
was toozy to respond and closed my eyes, pretending not to hear.
Seeing that I continued to ignore her, Ashley’s expression changed slightly.
A hint of resentment shed in her eyes, and the corners of her mouth curled into a cold smile, as if she were about to utter another sarcastic remark.
bust /bthen, a soft bvoice /bspoke up: “Auntie Aurora~”
bwas /bstartled and turned to look. It was the little girl who had fallen into the water earlier–Liz.
she had changed into a dry little dress, her cheeks rosy, standing at the doorway waving at me.
Uncle asked me to find you. He said he wants to invite you to dinner.” She said in her sweetb, /bchildlike voice, full of dependence and affection.
The corners of my mouth lifted slightlyb, /band I was about to answer when a sharp, grating voice suddenly rang out.
“Oh myb, /bquite capable, aren’t youb? /bWithout Ferrisb, /byou immediately found yourself another wild wolf?”
Ashley sneered softly, “It seems Dr. Windsor brecovers /bfrom heartbreak quite quickly. You change men so frequentlyb–/bcan this little girl’s uncle satisfy you in
bed?”
Liz frowned and looked up at her, her small face full of displeasure.
Though she didn’t understand the implications in Ashley’s words, she could sense they weren’t nice.
“bMy /buncle is not some wild wolf.”
The little girl was like a bristling kitten, her voice adorably fierceb, /b“I hate you. You’re a bad woman.”
Ashley’s expression changed, her gaze turning dark.
“What does a dead brat like you understand? Children shouldn’t interfere in adult matters.”
As she spoke, she bent down and, in the moment when I wasn’t paying attention, viciously pinched Liz’s arm.
Liz cried out “Ah!” and tears immediately poured out.
She clutched the pinched arm tightly, her small body trembling.
